I'd love to, but their stock is terrible and their prices are so bad it would be unfair on the word "terrible" to use it. My town actually has a record store, which is very rare indeed, but everything in it is unbuyable. If you're not competitive, then I'm not going to give you my money out of some misplaced sense of nostalgia. I'll buy my vinyl from places with better prices (better than these Sainsbury's prices too, actually).

Vinyls give a far superior listening experience than iTunes downloads do. Also, 'new' or 'chart' or 'popular' music completely pales in comparison when put against musical titans such as AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. Disagree? You need a musical education.

I've got over 1000 vinyls collected over 20+ years and a £1500 setup to listen to them on and your statement is balls. Down with all this "real music for real people" crap. Led Zeppelin is boring pub rock. Plenty of better new music about. It's not always in the charts because of the medium you are using to communicate here - the internet. There's loads of it available to everyone so it is more difficult for single artists to acheive a monopoly.

I have a big vinyl collection as I never got rid of my own records and have loads of 60's albums and singles given to me by family. I'm not sure what all the negativity is about.
This sort of vinyl list is hardly what users of independent record stores are flocking to buy, so not a threat to them (unless they've changed of late, walking into an indie to buy Adele is likely to lead very quickly to the shop assistant laughing in your face, even given her headlining the Pyramid).
And its a safe bet that unless sales of their turntable skyrocket, this will be a flash in the pan for them (whatever their marketing department are trying to pretend).

At the end of the day a deals a deal. Sainsburys are only doing what any of the supermarkets do when they see an opportunity to cash in on a latest trend.
I have my own views on the so called vinyl revival and the state of today's music world all of which would be lost in some of the crap already posted so I won't bother.
I do know though that unless there was an enormous saving to be made I would rather ring the tills of the few remaining record shops in Brum than a supermarket chain that will drop this product line as soon as the next more profitable one appears needing the same floor space.

Most people don't have decent hifi systems though....at least not decent enough to get the benefits vinyl can arguably offer. Unless you're spending big money I certainly believe the best sound for your pound would come from FLAC and a stand alone DAC or perhaps CD with a high end second hand cd player if you prefer that route. In my opinion my £500 turntable doesn't sound as good as FLAC and a £300 DAC. That said I still buy vinyl...but with my current hifi set ups it's for reasons other than sound quality.

Sheesh.......Google at your fingertips =everyone's an expert. In the vinyl days you had to argue face to face and had to know what you were talking about. Vinyl forced you to listen to albums how the artist wanted you to not just pick the throwaway fillers they churn out now. No wonder there's piracy. Who wants to pay full whack for an album for two half decent singles. It's not just about the sound quality
JohnnyUtah to robj73
22 Mar 161#81
No it didn't. You just had to get off your backside and lift the needle gently to the next track and skip the dross. I was there! I know! It was just more off a pain.
Seriously though, records didn't necessarily have a better sound quality than say cd, it was just different, often warmer and less clinical.
I still have records and play them occasionally. I would never get rid of them as I can usually remember where I bought it from, how old I was, what I was doing the first time I listened to it. Hell, even which girl I was going out with at the time!
Now in my mid forties if I wanted to buy either old or new music I would probably buy the cd for the sound quality rather than an LP or download. I still like to "own" a copy than feel like I'm renting it but that's probably a generation thing.
For the record I have a Deezer account and use it to research or rediscover songs or artists I had drifted away from before investing in a hard copy.
Maybe that's another point. When I buy/bought an CD/LP I felt like it was an investment, in the artist and in my record collection.
Call me a snob perhaps but I do think there is a difference between people who listen to music and those who genuinely love music.

For me though, it's not about how much my system cost or how many records, C.D's and tapes I have......for me it's about how music makes me feel, I don't need to be told what I like, I have ears and can make up my own mind.
So for that reason, I hope that Sainsburys stick to selling groceries

Sound quality on these super heavyweight new vinyls are very rarely what people claim....it's just a case of people jumping on a fad. Which is absolutely fine, since you are SUPPORTING the industry, but I wish a lot would stop trying to explain it any other way.
Hell, even for the vinyls that do offer a sound improvements, tons of "collectors" still don't have the equipment to make use of that quality, just a bog standard vinyl player, I know of a few who just use usb players through their laptop and run the whole audio quality thing, bonkers.
I don't really do new vinyls though, but the fad has killed a minor hobby of mine in rummaging through charity shops, their prices have now skyrocketed, used to be able to pick up a classic for 50p-£2, now like £5 at a bare minimum if you are lucky.

That is unbelievable, who on earth would buy those now?
I've been collecting vinyl for over 30 years since I was a little kid and first bought Street Sounds Electro 3, it is my first choice in formats, I visit record fairs on weekends when I can and browse charity shops whenever I get the chance. I hope to find a gem at a cheap price or a piece of rare vinyl that I have been after for a while, but, that never happens anymore due to places like Discogs (who probably have all these pieces of vinyl listed at cheaper prices) and Ebay. I'm pleased vinyl is making a comeback in the mainstream, but, local record stores have never stopped selling (new and secondhand) vinyl and these prices are the norm. As for vinyl sounding better than CD, I have to disagree, it may sound better than your average MP3, but, unless you spend thousands you will not get a better sound in my opinion.
The beauty of vinyl is the product itself, you cannot beat holding the product in your hand especially if it's a pictured gatefold, then putting the needle on the record, there really is something satisfying about it. I always feel when I buy a digital album, that you don't actually own anything, you can't say "come and have a look at my music collection" then whip out your phone, iPod etc. or double click your hard drive, call up iTunes, it's just not the same, but, I totally understand people aren't collectors so much anymore.
Not sure how this deal has got HOT, especially as there is no mention of what release they are actually selling, i.e. vinyl weight, cover etc.
Aaaah the old vinyl debate. Nostalgia plays it's part here in my experience. I did a blind test once with an old colleague, he chose the CD. Never mentioned his expensive stereo system or his "far superior" sounding vinyl collection again after that.

This was around the time of the 64 bits. Quite what the staff thought of me picking up scores of them I'm not sure, but thankfully I was still too young to give a stuff and they usually managed to stifle any laughter until I'd left the store.

If only every post had one so i could be rightly outraged by them .
Will they also be selling cassettes?
I was not looking to take offense. I looked at the comments here because I have a lot of vinyl and love it to bits.
Call me a snob perhaps but I do think there is a difference between people who listen to music and those who genuinely love music.
p.s, I'm a music lover too, I can listen to (and appreciate) anything from Abba to ZZ Top, with a smattering of Asian Dub Foundation, Laura Marling, Fat White Family, Grimes, Bob Marley, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Radiohead, Little Richard, Madness, DJ Shadow, Bowie, Little Dragon, The Moonlandingz, Courtney Barnett, The Kills and anything in between for that matter.
For me though, it's not about how much my system cost or how many records, C.D's and tapes I have......for me it's about how music makes me feel, I don't need to be told what I like, I have ears and can make up my own mind.
So for that reason, I hope that Sainsburys stick to selling groceries
I will never forget my local indie game store laughing when I asked if they'd sold Mega Drive titles (this was about 10 years ago). A few years later they are thriving purely because of their move to 'retro'. I've never been back in though.
Shortly after that a small part of me died. :disappointed: True story.
Thanks for the listing OP

All charity shops seem to have no stock of this, just barbra streisand
COLD
This was around the time of the 64 bits. Quite what the staff thought of me picking up scores of them I'm not sure, but thankfully I was still too young to give a stuff and they usually managed to stifle any laughter until I'd left the store.
