ive tried to spend less than a quid to get bonus points
and it did not work
the assistant in store at sainsburys told me it wouldnt work
i still thought i would try
she was correct lol
i also tried buying a less than a quid pen at our Homebase
no joy there either
maybe it works for some and not others

Speaking from experience, I've spent 10p in Sainsbury Locals and petrol stations and 13p in Homebase and the points sometimes go on automatically
just take a screen grab of the offer, keep your receipt and ask via live chat that they credit any missing points after the deadline has passed. I've always got them added with minimal fuss.
The biggest challenge is getting the cashier to swipe the card in the first place!
