This is a top soundbar. I owned this before with the add on yamaha sub. Can't believe people are comparing this to Maxell and Sony. Yamaha is a top brand.

​the maxell 252 was disappointing. The arc was sketchy and volume far too low. The tone was a bit muffled too. Not sure if the sound would have opened up in time but didn't want to keep to find out. Make sure u get it from a reputable seller in case u need to return.

The maxell in your link is a soundbase and not a soundbar mate so would be no good for wall mounting, Also it is not 2.1 as there is no external subwoofer the same as the Yamaha and is only 70watts vs 120 on the yammy which is why jay found it too low :confused:

I bought a Yamaha YSP-5600 with separate sub at xmas. Very high recommend that, if you cannot have speakers around your room.

A lot more expensive though :disappointed: But it doesn't get any better than this.

have tried both maxell and this yamaha, both jarr at higher sounds. both are packed now to go back

I was lucky and picked up the Yas 105 for £95 on Amazon last week. It might be worth keeping an eye out and waiting for that? It's really excellent especially for under £100.

I have this sound bar and have to say it is very good. Has a kind of integrated sub for base. Is very good in a room with limited space. I bought mine for £200 a while ago so at this price it is pretty damn good.

It freeeking £1600 for a soundbar. You could have got 3 Sonos play 5's for that and had change left over for a couple of bags of fish and chips.

I used to have one of these and the power is really something. I just found it way too bass-y - and sadly there is no control over the bass or treble - something you might want to consider before buying.

7.1 in a traditional sense... Discrete channels. 2 front speakers, 1 centre, 2 surrounds, and 2 of your choice, (sides, front highs) and a sub for the LFE channel for an immersive sound.

Elevation... AIR SURROUND XTREME delivers 7.1-channel surround sound is their marketing BS :wink:

There is a bass adjust button on the remote which you can see if you zoom the photo in on the link. I found that the bass was way too boomy also and made films sound crap without knocking it down a peg or two.

And £1600 for a soundbar? :sunglasses: £300 more than I paid for a full monty 5.1 in the man cave :laughing: and no it is not Sonos for the love of god...

I bought the bush 2.1 sound bar from Argos a couple of years ago for the kitchen tv as it was the perfect width for a 32", I wasn't expecting anything amazing from this but only to improve the sound from the dreadful speakers in the toshiba tv. The sound turned out to be very good, I even use it to listen to Amazon music through the fire tv and even that sounds very good. All for under £50 too

Iv'e had this for a couple of years and works and sounds great. Easy to pair with with any remote so it turns on/ off with your tv.

I have this and its worth the price, best buy in my book better then the other brands. Once you get used to it you will forget why its so good until you listen to your tv speakers again.

I've got this and it's great value for money. It's not got Bluetooth or any other fancy stuff, but it does have a solid built-in sub, and sounds great. It's a steal at this price.

Yamaha > any other company when it comes to soundbars.

Unfortunately though some people seem to think a £100 soundbar is capable of magical things. This is in the world of sound quality a budget sound bar.

It's better than built in tv speakers. It's probably amazing for joe bloggs but an audiophile would think it's a pile of rubbish.

I have a YSP 1400 and i owned a yas 101 before it. The YAS 101 IMO is amazing for £100 but it's terrible compared to the YSP 1400.

Also lol at people recommending maxell over this. Like recommending lada over rolls royce.

yea because it sounded average and tinny and therefore was good for mastering tracks to sound decent on radios and other average to poor home stereos.. yamaha are great IMO and this soundbar is def good. but citing that studio monitors proliferation as an indication of their quality just suggests you know little about actual sound quality....

I have this. I think it's great. Way better than my girlfriend's LG bar which was roughly the same price.

I agree with everything you say. I was merely stating that Yamaha know far more than just manufacturing motorcycles, and used the '10s as an educational reference point.
That said, correctly amplified, my NS-10s sound amazing......

100%, sorry for biting. I agree. tbh I'd prob still prefer most monitors over consumer HiFi £ of £. Yamaha do make some great kit, I think u would be hard pushed to find a better sounding soundbar for similar money..

Yamaha one of the few manufacturers that let the model learn your TV remote, so no need to keep two+ remotes. Can also be controlled with the sky remote.

Only problem is you get used to the better sound quaility within a week and then need something better!

I've got a 2015 LG TV but I can't make out the speech in films that well with the in built speakers. I'm hoping something like this would help, but I might have to go full surround sound I think.

I'm running everything off a remote plex server so I'm at the mercy of whatever audio is on the film, however every film sounds crap on this TV so it's the TV. Dolby Volume sounds like it's acting like a Normalizer/Compressor, it's possibly more complex than that, but that's essentially what it sounds like it's doing from the description you've given.

That's a problem with all sound systems unless you turn it up really loud. It's the way movie audio is mastered, which is at reference level. There are ways to improve it though. Having a centre for dialogue helps but it doesn't help with the dynamic range if low. There are features such as Dolby Volume they reduce the dynamic range/adjust volume to keep it all at a similar level. Like in a movie when a loud action scene (which you have to turn down) then the next scene is whisper quiet dialogue. Features like this even it out so you can hear both without touching the remote.
There are other things like dialogue lifting (which is a feature of some systems) and there's Dynamic Volume.

I bought the YAS105 Yamaha sound bar for £99.. So far it's been good. When I compared it with my LG multi dock, in terms of sound quality Yamaha looses.. But overall good system. Not too loud which was what I was looking for..and also connects to my wafdle subwoofer .. Good for cinema experience ... Yas 105 got 7.1 dts .. So for the money.. It's good buy.. And if u hav a spare sub.. Even better

Something like that. Loud parts become quieter and quieter parts become louder. I use it all the time.

Do you have a TV that has it built in or an AV receiver?

AV. I believe it does exist in TV's and other audio equipment though.

What receiver do you have? I've also seen Audyssey mentioned on some receivers which is a similar thing I believe.

With all the positive reviews this has received at the original price not far short of 200 nicker I would have bought this in a flash had I not just got an inferior LG alternative to match my TV. I took a look anyway & was relieved somewhat to see all 150-odd of them had been sold. If they hadn't just maybe I'd still have been tempted. It was however an excellent deal at this price....

Like I said, not cheap. But the best solution there is if you cannot have physical speakers around a room. I considered the Sonos system, and it was not as good.

You will not get a better sound bar for the price. Go on Ebay and get a YSTFSW100 active sub for around £40 and this is a very respectable system.
