Even if you like messing with the roms, you can use roms on G3 to improve its performance significantly.
This will beat G3 basically only in terms of battery. Save your money for now.

If you like messing with roms or not it's something you will have to do with this to make it work like you want it. Same with am MIUI devices. You will probably have to unlock bootloader (if like note 3) and install TWRP and Miui EU weekly to get rid of chinese bloat on it.
It looks a nice phone just the same.

Something changed? Had to mess with every miui device I have had. It's no big deal if your used to it. Just no good if you have no idea. Usually takes a few months before they release a global rom unless that has changed with the redmi 3?
Yes they work out of the box but usually not that well imo. I have had a redmi 2, note, note 2 and a note 3.

No global rom available for these yet and they come without Google play services installed. That is unless gearbest have installed a rom which includes they as they tend to but its usually a non standard custom rom of their own making.

I did not know that as only note 3 I had was locked and never bothered unlocking it. They must be just installing play services then which is simple enough from what I read. Pretty sure you will get play services installed buying from gearbest eu. May not if you got it from China.
Not saying anything bad about them, just saying to those how may not want to mess with them just in case they dont come pre installed and the standard chinese rom will not have play store.
That may change in future though as google are trying to launch it in China I think I read.

Off topic: I bought the xiaomi mi 4c for my wife, came from the European warehouse of gearbest.com with their custom rom installed on it. It worked fine but later on it started getting popups and random ads. No third party apps were installed, so I suspected it's in the rom. Google it, some Chinese phones from random vendors do come with malware injected into the roms. I think we were unlucky. Not to worry, install twrp bootloader then Cyanogen mod, there are several good guides out there. Now it's working like a charm. Yes, there is no official stable rom but the nightly version from team super something does the job. No major bugs in it and no malware as far 's I can tell. She is a happy bunny now.

The Chinese are really coming to the UK big style this year. I don't know how anyone is going to be able to justify £500-£650 for an Apple phone made in China when you can buy something as good for about 30% of the price.
Add in error 53 to the mix, I wonder if a backlash against Apple isn't starting to form...
As a recent 'convert' I agree with this. Having said that, I think it will impact Android makers like Samsung. LG, HTC etc first as Apple users seem totally oblivious to just how royally ripped off they are getting (in fact some who DO realise seem to actually revel in it, bizarrely) so they will take longer to be converted. But it's good news for consumers once more people become aware of just how much you can get for your money by buying Chinese. The days of the 600 quid flagship (by any mainstream maker) are definitely numbered.

You said in post #21 that battery life was awesome. I kind of assumed you were talking 2-3 days+. To be getting 24-36 hours really isn't that impressive.
I'm using a Blu HD LTE (£49 Amazon special) which easily gets 1.5 days of battery life whilst streaming Spotify over LTE for at least 6-8 hours, plenty of screen on time & frequent calls/texts. I don't consider the battery life to be 'awesome' though...
Perhaps it's just awesome battery life for Android - but whatever the case, I'm not that impressed.

Nonsense. Apple's ecosystem is richer than any of its competitors. It is also a company that explicitly aims to make money from hardware sales....whereas Google are essentially using Android as a trojan horse to get your personal data.

LMFAO. Such naivety - probably what leads to the huge purchase price being swallowed so easily too.
There is no such thing as privacy at all any more. Your emails are monitored, you're caught on CCTV as soon as you leave the house, your car number plate is read when you drive anywhere. If you're in London your every move on a bus or tube is catalogues. Facebook - bet you have an account.
Seriously, if you buy Apple devices because you think your data / privacy is somehow safer, you are very very deluded indeed. Not having a go, you buy what you want with your money, but be aware your privacy is of no more concern to Apple than it is to Google. Their only concern is taking as much money as they can off you. And then silo-ing it away from any tax or anyone's economy.

Just be aware that DX have no European warehouse ALL their products are shipped from China and therefore are potentially liable for customs charges. See here
“I’m speaking to you from Silicon Valley, where some of the most prominent and successful companies have built their businesses by lulling their customers into complacency about their personal information,” said Cook. “They’re gobbling up everything they can learn about you and trying to monetize it. We think that’s wrong. And it’s not the kind of company that Apple wants to be.”

Once again, it's convenient to paint all tech companies the same...but Google explicitly sell your data to anyone that wishes to buy it. Apple do not.
I don't personally own or use an iPhone. I wouldn't do on cost reasons alone. But I find it utterly ridiculous that people paint Apple device owners as 'sheep' or idiots....when in fact they own the devices with the best ecosystem, most cohesive user experience (in comparison to Android at any rate), and the device that is most likely to protect your privacy.

It was actually DellB0y with comment #41 that decided to shoot some nonsense about Apple users. There's nothing wrong with wading in with comments that paint a more accurate picture.
Apple users aren't deluded. They just can't be bothered with all the ROM flashing nonsense that Android users have to put up with....and I dare say they also wish to avoid the data raiding of the Google overlord.
If I had the money, I'd buy an iPhone. Constant updates that aren't tied to the whims of the OEM...the best quality apps...and a better overall package. (How's Google's equivalent of Apple Pay coming along  )

If you buy one of these, download Malwarebytes (free) from playstore, run it, and see if any of the preloaded Chinese apps has any malware/Trojans buried deep in them, mine has 2, which I can't remove! Malwarebytes can't either, and AVG anti-virus didn't detect them, I've had to isolate them in a folder! not going to connect it to my computer, don't know if it will transfer anything unwanted over! Just got one of these from DX - it took 6 weeks to arrive. The main thing to be aware of is that there is currently no official global (English with google play etc) rom available for this phone currently. Mine came with an unofficial english rom installed and sure enough MalwareBytes found a couple of things in the system apps (a file dropper and a banking trojan in the MiPay app).
Fairly easy to reflash with clean version of MiUi from xda developers though (if you do this you dont need to unlock the bootloader). Hopefully Mi will release an official version for this phone soon though.

Add in error 53 to the mix, I wonder if a backlash against Apple isn't starting to form...

Hence why i was disappointed to see Jabaltariq's post just prior to mine, I'm a software developer and also a network engineer so very aware of security which is why i look at custom roms with suspicion - quite rightly
So i'll look into the one you mentioned, ta
and technologically retarded ones at that
I'm using a Blu HD LTE (£49 Amazon special) which easily gets 1.5 days of battery life whilst streaming Spotify over LTE for at least 6-8 hours, plenty of screen on time & frequent calls/texts. I don't consider the battery life to be 'awesome' though...
Perhaps it's just awesome battery life for Android - but whatever the case, I'm not that impressed.
I personally find it incredible that people willingly give Google such access to their lives. That to me seems 'retarded'.
Secondly - do you have a facebook account? Hmm
Because they're selling your life story to anyone and everyone
and if that wasn't enough, the nsa gchq are doing this on a colossal scale whether you like it or not - so helloooo?!?!
Wake up !

You put the Hermes on this?
I hadn't heard of that
My old s4 might make it till tea time.
This goes into evening with over 50% left.
Sorry I disappointed you
I installed CM12.1, xposed, gapps etc
Runs great, battery life is great
I personally have an LG G4 best phone of 2015 imho
These xiaomi phones are great value for the money and I would happily use one as my daily driver
As for the 'installing roms' comment i have installed 3 roms on my sons phone since I got it in November and two of those were CM upgrades from the original rom
BUT it was a pain to initially get it rooted/CM on it etc
Apple doesn't sell your data on an industrial scale (though it is of course convenient for your argument if that were not the case).

Rom flashing - apple users will never have the luxury of rom flashing they are tied to the apple updates whereas we have a million different flavours to test out
Adaway, xposed, greenify - 3 reasons alone why Android works for me
You can easily purchase a G4, S6, Nexus etc if you want the premium feel
Plus you dont have to download itunes and enter your email address if you want to put a song on your phone - think about it
On another note. I purchased one new from a reseller on ebay for my mother which I just returned today.
I have to say I'm impressed by the build for the price but not sure if it was just a dud but the screen was blotchy and the camera app kept crashing and rebooting the phone. Also, the Mi Gallery app didn't want to load up at first but after a couple of resets it started working again.
Anybody experienced this? I'm not sure whether to get another or get a Redmi Note 3 instead for only a little more.
SO you're wrong. :stuck_out_tongue:
I would imagine either would b more costly than this. If you have the extra cash and are ok with 5.5 rather than 5" screen the note would have more storage, better cpu, more ram and fingerprint sensor.
I win
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner !
sony imx214 awesome for the HW
I'd think a smartphone does not go well with a trolls mental capacity...
Fairly easy to reflash with clean version of MiUi from xda developers though (if you do this you dont need to unlock the bootloader). Hopefully Mi will release an official version for this phone soon though.
