In fairness, the PS4 controller (which is usually the same price) comes with a rechargable battery (instead of buying an xbox battery for an additional £20) - also, has a built in touchpad, lights and speaker.
I'd say the PS4 controller is better value normally, not overpriced.

Apologies for the late reply. The HMV is located in Donegal Arcade next to Game. not aware of a store in the Victoria centre.

Yes, because they last so much longer than the rechargeables.
I've had my XBone for 18 months, and not changed the original batteries in my controller yet..!

I've heard some PS4 fanboy crap on this site but your comment is borderline desperate  4x eneloop batteries cost £6 and last for ages, plus when one set do drain, I can keep playing without being tethered to a power source. In addition, contrary to your weird belief, there are loads of things that still use AA batteries... can your PS4 powerpack power a Canon Flashgun at 5am on Christmas day?? Thought not
Yes because AA (e.g. Eneloop) is a standard and better than any 'built in' (read non-standard) battery for a controller. You can also use them in Torches, label printers, kids toys, remote controls etc. No having to buy special batteries and chargers, or plug in to play and charge.
Also cars don't have a built in battery, they have a standard sized 12V lead acid car battery..

Rechargeable batteries on a controller made for an almost 10 year old console don't mean jack when prices for said console have dropped down heavily, yet the controllers are still just as expensive as controllers for the newer upgrade console.

Never mind. Shame it wasn't online. Anyway my two official non 3.5mm controllers from January last year (one with the console and the other a separate play and charge kit one) has the drifting up on the left analogue sticks. Very poor cheap design that does not last anywhere near as long as the old 360 controllers I have lying around for 6 years. Its well documented as I complained on Microsoft forums but they are exempt from 12 month warranty and are only on 3 month!
Regarding batteries, hate the play and charge cables, got plenty of eneloops, last much longer!

I meant it wasn't overpriced in comparison to the XB1 controller. I'd agree that the XB1 controller is a £20 device but that would make the PS4 one £25-30 minimum (which still works out cheaper than the XB1 + batteries).
Plus, XB1 battery packs are notoriously awful - they typically last 18 months in comparison to the PS ones lasting, what, over 10 years?
You do know PS controllers have high-quality built in rechargable batteries, right?

That's exactly what happens when there's no real competition. The same can be seen with PSN subs. It's all fine people getting all precious over their little plastic box, gloating etc, but the thing they ignore is with such a strong lead, Sony really have no incentive to drop prices. Thus those of us with PS4's pay more than we would be expected to had we opted for the other console. After all, only a complete idiot or someone beyond help would argue that PSN+ is £10 better than its Microsoft counterpart.

Not as absurd as the diabolical pricing of ps3 controllers especially since the ps4 released. Stores are still charging £30+ for ps3 pads which, for a now almost 10 year console is madness. Should be below £10 by now imo.

Different degrees of overpriced don't make it not overpriced. They both are. Massively. These are £20 devices. And that would be a generous mark-up.

People seriously still use AA batteries in Xbox controllers?
Anyway, those of us in the 21st century have a rechargeable battery pack. PS4 has this built in (like phones, laptops, cars, etc) - xbox doesn't.
The touchpad is a great idea, the speakers are nice to have.
I agree that the xbox controller is much more comfortable and has better triggers - but it's massively overpriced for what it is and you have to spend a fortune on batteries. Value for money, the PS controller is far better.

17 Feb 16#29
What? XBone uses AA's, readily available. No use for touchpad, lights or speaker. PS3/4 controllers are too skinny and have rubbish triggers that your fingers slide off.

In all fairness, the Douglas store isn't THAT far away, as long as you don't mind boats or planes...
*Also, just a heads up.
1) Rumour has it that all stores in Ireland won't be there for much longer unfortunately.
2) Douglas/Isle of Man doesn't stock the controllers, hasn't done for a while now.

I got 2 as backup last week. They are the old non 3.5mm headphone versions. I had to ask for them at the cash desk on ground floor and they had plenty. Obviously they must have had a lot more as they are still being bought. It's not store specific either.
They also had the official xbox 360 controllers for £4.99 (wired) and £6.99 (wireless). They also had the official play and charge for the xbox 360 for £2.99 if anyone wants those.
Heated.

Did you know roughly how many wireless 360 controllers they had in stock?
Buy a £77 device to use your old controllers? Ouch.
I had that initial thought when I got my XBone - but then after 10 minutes, I realised how much more comfortable the One controller is, so much so that I use one on my PC too.
Went to a friend's the other weekend and was using his 360 controller... urgh. They feel small and weird now. One FTW.
