Whats to be amazed about? Its a fantastic award winning game including 2 Golden Joysticks at the gaming awards. Critically acclaimed and one of the best games in recent years on any console it would surely be surprising if it wasn't still popular. Almost all games, particularly shooters lose their appeal after you have completed the 1 player mode. Like any great game with longevity however this never gets boring with multiplayer fun unlimited and updates too. Shame for you that you sold your Wii U I guess.
PS the Wii U is not languishing just because you prematurely sold yours.

I never said the Wii U was bad, only that it is languishing i.e. it's in a bad place sales wise and third party support is virtually non-existent. You clearly have a chip on your shoulder concerning the Wii U and that's fine but there's no need to lash out when someone correctly says that the Wii U is not doing too well. I don't even think Nintendo executives would agree with you that it has 'more than reasonable sales' hence why it is going to be abandoned as a platform after just 4 years on the market.
For the record I did mostly enjoy my time with the Wii U but I hated the tablet controller and not many of the games interested me so that's why I sold it. Once again I am glad you like yours, my 'languishing' comment was not intended as an insult or slight on any Wii U owners.

I really want to play this game! Can't justify the cost of another console at the moment or else I'd defo be all over a Wii u.
Besides, I can't leave the house at the moment, I'm too embarrassed (looks sheepishly at her 2ds)

It's a pretty boring game.
I got really into it when I first played it and found the right ink gun etc but after 2/3 days of not getting a chance to play it, I had no desire to touch it. There could be so much more done to the gameplay and rules but it's a bit too basic to invest your time into.

If you get to level 10 and play the ranked battles it adds a lot more variety to it. The single player campaign is ok too, except I cant beat DJ Octo at the end !!

When did you play? If it was close to release then 2 modes, ~10 maps and ~50 weapons and sets (different subs and specials) have been added. Also it's a case of simple mechanics but deep game play, if you put the time in to learning and improving. The inking mechanic, for example, has a huge effect on mobility and affects how teams work together and adds further diversity to the weapons. There's a reason why the game has been universally acclaimed.
If anybody is interested in watching some gameplay, from one of the best players in Europe (and probably the world), he's recently posted a long highlight montage on Youtube and has some other gameplay video on his channel.
It takes some dedication to get over the hump between single player and multi-player; finding a weapon set you like and understanding the maps and mechanics well enough to succeed. When the game first came out everyone was learning how to play so it was a good learning environment but now there's an established core of regular players it can be a baptism of fire for a new player. Ranked is probably the best mode for new players now (after reaching level 10) because the skill matchmaking is exact but the all inclusive "casual" Turf Wars mode can be off-putting-ly brutal due to the more imprecise matchmaking.

Exactly. Couldn't have said it better myself. The Wii U is languishing for loads of reasons. People prematurely selling their consoles barely even registers as one of those reasons.
The appalling dearth of third party support, poor sales figures, backwards digital model, horrible dashboard and repeated delays are all much more important reasons why the Wii U is languishing than that Jez777 sold his console.
Seriously though, there's basically one stand out reason to own a Wii U, and that's solid first party exclusives. Voted hot.

There is but it gets dull fast; if you're not buying it for online multiplayer, it's not worth it, m8.

Splatoon is just incredible, still play it for short bursts regularly and don't see myself getting bored with it anytime soon. I havn't even touched the rank mode yet, just the standard matches are exceptionally fun.

I only brought the 2DS into this thread, because IMHO it is the one current Nintendo console that is fair game for giving a bit of a bashing. But its gets ignored by the Wii U haters out there because the general deep hatred of the Wii U seems to just override anything else.
I have no objection with the chaps comments and right to his opinion. I didn't dispute the sales figures, was merely pointing out that sales figures in no way reflect the quality of the gaming, and those 2 things are not necessarily connected. Not everything for everyone with the gaming choices is about whats popular? I don't want to be branded as the Wii U Police on here, but when it is constantly slated I am allowed to put some balanced perspective on things. Like when I put the 2DS down, people will give reasons to justify why they think its good to balance that which is fine.

Yes, it never takes more than a minute to join a game. I've just bought it myself and think i've got a lot of catching up to do in terms of rankings.

You cannot comment on someone elses opinion of the wii u, who decided it to be underperforming based on sales figures (which it is btw, and yes I love my Wii U, but there is no escaping it...its why Nintendo has repeatedly reduced its sales forecasts) and then in the same sentence condemn a console just because you don't personally like it. - There will be people who think the 2ds is a excellent machine, I know of them so I know they exist - and you seem to be bringing up your distaste for it now even in unrelated threads >_>
I also don't think he was in anyway attempting a pop at the wii u, as I said the wii u is probably my favourite console atm and I own over 50 games for it, but you cannot escape them facts

Not at all do I consider it a failure. The 2DS is a failure and an embarrassment to own, thats simply a bad gaming unit by todays standards or 5 years ago standards even. The Wii U is an excellent machine with more than reasonable sales and game support for a family/kid friendly console. Oasis and many others never made it in America but does not mean they were not talented musically. Obviously a family friendly console can't compete with a generic shooter based console in the land that loves firearms. It does not make it a bad console my friend. Sales figures do not reflect quality. I think you will find McDonalds sell a gazillion generic burgers a day and outsell your local fine dining restaurant by someway. So that a console that sells generic shooters by the gazillions, outsells a fine gaming console by someway, is what it is really.
If your base your gaming decision solely on sales figures thats fine, your choice. But for all us content Wii U players who don't choose to follow the masses into the generic mainstream shooter based gaming, we will just plod on all the same thanks.

So you don't consider 12 million sales over a period of more than 3 years languishing? It's nice that you enjoy yours but please be serious, the Wii U is one of the least popular games consoles of all time!
P.S. My amazement was not meant as an insult, just pleasantly surprised that Nintendo gambling on a new IP in a genre they haven't much experience in paid off for them. I may have sold my Wii U but I still love Nintendo and want to see them do well.
Excellent price for this, I'm kind of amazed at how successful this game has been considering it's a multiplayer-centric game on a languishing Nintendo platform. if I hadn't sold my Wii U I'd be very tempted by this, heat added!
