March 2014 (to those that cannot calculate that is just shy of 2 years ago) I bought a 'refurbished' (dinged box contents mint) Wii U Premium New Super Mario Bros U pack off Argos eBay for £170.
Now at the time you had people stating back then exactly the same as you do now...too expensive....too few games...going to wait until it drops to £150 and now the new one 'NX is due in x, y or z timeframe.
I still have more games for my Wii U than I have for my PS4 bought in December 2013, and far more exclusives and have had 2 years worth of fun....whilst ironically people keep bringing up the same old crap!

It's probably not worth debating the implications of piracy on a system that's nearing the end of its life anyway, but you're missing out by not having online for MK8 and Smash Bros, let alone Mario Maker.
Bought most of my games for sub £30 and a quick look on eBay suggests I wouldn't lose more than a couple of quid on each title.
(MK8, Smash Bros, Wii Fit U, Mario Maker, Super Mario 3D World, Mario/Luigi U).
Just not sure if it's worth the hassle of trying to play them as backups, although it looks as though the scene is progressing all the time.

Nintendo was lazy with this Zelda "edition". The console didn't even have any special decal like 360s and PS3s did.

Sony's been pretty lazy too but it's still better looking than just a standard black console:

Good deal, although I still can't shake the feeling they should be cheaper by now considering how poorly they've sold and the lack of support over the last few months. The 8GB bundles at about £130 seem a long time ago now! But what do I know, I bought mine at launch!!
Not heard about an impending NX announcement, and if it does turn out to be a new home console for 2016, it's surely going to be at E3 (or more like their E3 Direct)? Still think the NX is going to be a hybrid/shared system and that the handheld element is more likely to see a release this year as the 3DS is five years old now and I don't they would have been planning the home console release for long enough.

Exactly, I got mine much later than you and have been glad I purchased when I did.
I got the Wii U 8gb with Mario Kart 8 for £140 on the Smyths website last July, a lot of people on here thought that was a bad deal because it wasn’t a 32gb Wii U. However I simply added a £20 64gb sandisk micro usb thumb drive to one of the back usb ports and have been loving it since.
So £160 for a Wii U with 72gb of space and a physical copy of Mario Kart 8.. great stuff! And still better than most of the Wii U deals since in my opinion.
Granted I have probably since spent another £100 on 4x Wii U Pro controllers so I can play 4 player games with my mates, however we’ve had more fun playing Mario Kart 8 than anything else out on the Xbox One. In addition the Wii U was on firmware 5.3.2, so perfect for homebrew / hacks if the scene ever takes off.

There's nothing to say that NX is coming out this year; Nintendo have said they're going to share more information this year - we don't even know exactly what NX is! Also Nintendo shut the MK Wii servers down after six years or so, so I don't think that's anything to worry about any time soon.
That's not to say people shouldn't wait until there's more information on NX if they're unsure, but NX may not be out this year, may not be a home console, may not be worth getting at launch (none of the three current consoles were IMO) and may not have a Smash, MK etc until maybe 2018 or beyond!

Not to mention the Wii servers lasted another 18 months after the Wii U came out. So if NX comes out October 2016 (not likely), then that's only 2 years left to play Splatoon, oh no... Best wait for the 32gb to be £32 to be on the safe side.

I also got a Lego WiiU bundle last year. My greatest HDUK moment. I had phoned up about 20 stores and they all said they didn't have it. The 1 store closest to me didn't answer the phone. It's weird, even though it's the closest branch to me I'd never been to it. So I thought **** it, I went there and by god they actually had 1. In my excitement I had forgotten to ask them if they had the Pro controller as well, which was going for £10 at the time.
I've had a lot of fun with the console, mainly with Mario 3D World which I've 100% completed. I probably would have eventually bought it anyway but to get the Premium for £75 brand new still boggles my mind.

You can still play the original Gears of War online 10 years after it was released.
I'm not sure why you are defending a really poor business practice.
For the record, I owned a Wii U and thoroughly enjoyed Mario Kart 8 and Smash 4. Sold it when I found out about the NX though because historically Nintendo always drop support for their old consoles immediately following the launch of a new one. That's just a fact, no point getting angry about it.

you've got essentially the same deal as long as you wanted the two games you've got. you would've got those two games much cheaper than the price difference and they seem to be the best games on the platform
The Wii U's online service is provided by Nintendo with no reliance on a third party like GameSpy. Claiming that it will suffer the same expiry timeline of 18 months after the release of the NX is misleading.

To be fair various Sony and non-Sony published games have had their servers shut down. MAG and SOCOM basically became coasters as they're online only games. GT5, Resistance games, some Motorstorm games.
MK Wii was a nightmare by the end anyway, not being able to patch games properly etc to even amend the servers from Gamespy (as jsty3105 said above). Not that that defends Nintendo (and MS seem to be the best in terms of keeping servers up), but the Wii was more about people in the room rather than it's very shakey online service.
I'm not worried about Smash, Splatoon or MK online being lost in the next few years. I certainly don't think it's a big enough concern to effect people's buying decisions at this point.

Plenty of evidence here says you're incorrect. No actual evidence of what Nintendo are actually planning to release this year if anything. NX is just a rumour and a codename for a project at this time. But if you are following rumours then here is how things are currently looking.
NX to be announced in June with the handheld to be released in late 2016. The concepts for the handheld show a device with only 1 screen so 3DS backwards compatibility will not be out of the box.
The console counterpart is expected to be released in mid-late 2017. The console can send information to the handheld much like the Wii U presently does with the gamepad, so it will just be there to provide more horsepower to the unit. The handheld is also rumoured to be able to receive information from PC and even PS4 and Xbox one.
So even though Wii U games might be backwards compatible (but I believe that would be hard if the architecture is different/more modern like the PS4) then you would need to wait until 2017 at least and purchase two relatively new consoles at a large premium.

I still have more games for my Wii U than I have for my PS4 bought in December 2013, and far more exclusives and have had 2 years worth of fun....whilst ironically people keep bringing up the same old crap!
May as well just wait for the NX.

That's not to say people shouldn't wait until there's more information on NX if they're unsure, but NX may not be out this year, may not be a home console, may not be worth getting at launch (none of the three current consoles were IMO) and may not have a Smash, MK etc until maybe 2018 or beyond!
My cousin got it and it looks tacky and ugly ruins it
but it's ok,we will see MANY Wii U deals in the next coming months..NX is comming and there are loads of unsold Wii Us.
I've had a lot of fun with the console, mainly with Mario 3D World which I've 100% completed. I probably would have eventually bought it anyway but to get the Premium for £75 brand new still boggles my mind.
Shame theres no stock pretty much everywhere
You can still play the original Gears of War online 10 years after it was released.
I'm not sure why you are defending a really poor business practice.
For the record, I owned a Wii U and thoroughly enjoyed Mario Kart 8 and Smash 4. Sold it when I found out about the NX though because historically Nintendo always drop support for their old consoles immediately following the launch of a new one. That's just a fact, no point getting angry about it.
I'm sure they can take the financial hit of keeping the online running.
The Wii U's online service is provided by Nintendo with no reliance on a third party like GameSpy. Claiming that it will suffer the same expiry timeline of 18 months after the release of the NX is misleading.
Don't worry if you don't understand, that was some high grade smienzzzce there for ya. Trust me, I'm an expert.

No actual evidence of what Nintendo are actually planning to release this year if anything.
Fair enough - some people might consider spending money on something they'll enjoy using to be worthwhile but people's opinions on the value of buying a Wii U seem to vary quite a bit.
