hi.. for our 80+ mum we mounted a smartphone on the wall above the TV installed an APP (hands-free answer) the phone auto answers but only numbers stored in the directory and she can see a picture of the family member calling. it answers in hands-free mode so we can talk to her anywhere in her flat works brilliantly and she doesn't have to touch the phone.

I struggle to get my Grandparents to use a smartphone to call. You have to bring up the dialler and there are too many other 'buttons' to make mistakes with.
Trying to get them to use Whatsapp would not be a pleasant experience.
But I'll buy one for the kids for Christmas and video their faces when they realise its not an iPhone.

I bought this to use as an mp3 player but the sound volume is woeful... Damn you Europe!
Anyhow a little internet detective work threw this little trick to increase the volume.
Type *#*#3646633#*#* on phone keypad
Go to hardware
Go to audio (to increase ring volume) or
Go to headphones (to increase playback volume though the headphones)
Set to 160
Press set
It enters the engineer mode to allow you to tinker with all sorts of settings.
Hope it helps someone.

My girlfriend and my self bought one each to use as mp3 players on the beach in Spain as we didn't want to take iPhones in case they got nicked when we were in the sea, we put 3 sim cards in them with the "feel at home" tariff and set The iPhones to forward calls to them......£20 for an mp3 player and a "disposable phone" no worries !

I got one for my 87 year old dad. I had it set up with the free Nova launcher because it lets me increase the font size and added direct dial widgets for each contact so all he had to do was scroll through the front screens and tap whatever contact he wanted to cal once and that was it. However he just ended up calling a dozen people every day without realising it so i've had to scrap that method. It seems things can be TOO easy sometimes. Now i've installed Contacts & Dialer by Drupe which is a fairly typical contact list but lets me embiggen the text more than the others i've found and you simply double tap the name to make the call. The phone itself is set to hang up by the power button. We shall see...

Yes, silly typo, I was going to type 512 RAM after low responsiveness but got distracted. Anyway, so what is similar bargain one level up say 40-50 ideally with 1GB RAM and 8GB memory? All start getting bigger and bigger screens which I don't actually want, 4" is better for a backup phone.

Ordered this to go with the BT Sim only £5 for 12 month deal where you receive a £40 Amazon voucher and £42 TCB so all being well I should have a functioning albeit basic smartphone with minutes, texts and a bit of data per month for my 9 year old son and make a massive £4 profit - winner
nav99 to danielson1978
14 Feb 16#68
Is this TCB BT deal still on? nice one though
danielson1978
14 Feb 161#69
Yeah it tracked straight away at £42 - still got to wait for it to be confirmed obviously but they have recognised the transaction at least
Not really related to this deal but I'm looking for a cheap smartphone ideally with a bit more RAM than this but want one that offers decent sound quality over bluetooth. I'm using my moto defy+ at the moment (offers excellent sound quality over bluetooth) for runkeeper + music whilst exercising but the phone has an inherent kernel issue meaning that it will randomly reboot, sometimes not for a few days, sometimes more than once a day and I don't want it rebooting whilst tracking my walks/runs.
Anyone have any suggestions please?
pantaiema
14 Feb 16#73
Hot for the price.
But for the specs ????
3G, Internal memory 4 GB, 512 MB RAM, 4" display.
Who do you think will ever need them ??
For your small daughters / boys ?? Well, once they fnd out that his/her phone could not play most of the game like their friends in the school have in their phones with this low spec processor, 512 MB RAM, they will be asing you to fix it (more hassles for you considering your time). Alternatively, they might deliberately throw it into the bin and claim they lost it in order to get it replaced.
For your Grandma, Grandpa with the way the people describe above? Well they are using it like a non smart phone. Is not that cheaper and usefull to buy a used non smart phone for them with large keypad.

Thanks. I hadn't seen the Huawei. These are good prices, my only issue is the growing screen size as I'm looking for smallest possible dimensions especially in these cases where the resolution isn't that impressive to begin with on the cheaper smaller versions and the same/similar resolution is kept in the 'better' model with larger screen reducing ppi. But it looks like I may have to go for a 4.5" to o get 1GB/8GB.
