I don't know which statement I disagree most with:

- equipped with a 4-inch WQHD capacitive touchscreen for rich visuals and detailed graphics
or
- capture high quality photos and videos with sound with the Smart first 6’s built-in 2-megapixel camera
or
- runs on the powerful Dual-core processor that provides speedy web browsing with seamless multitasking

but I think it has to be:

- Vodafone apps allow you to connect and share with confidence

I'm not and didn't claim to be. I just don't understand why someone would intentially go out of their way to post a comment that can only upset or anger someone. Not everyone has the same education, life experiences etc. Basically, the guy acted like a douche and I called him out on it.

How is the OP meant to know what is a modern version of Android? Just because you know something doesn't mean every one else should. The question wasn't "dense". As I said before, you could have just answered the question like a normal person or just ignored it entirely. Instead you post a snarky reply to try and embarrass the guy. Never look down on someone unless you are helping them up.

Anyone who has got this phone tell me how to close the apps you have open.

On every android phone I've had the right hand square button opens the homescreen with cascasding windows
of currently running apps and you swipe to close one at a time.

This phone doesn't seem to do that. How do I get the cascading apps screen, please?

Try Nova Launcher
Long press the square button to show running apps
Swipe to close
BrianM to Poppydog

It DOES work like this - with a small catch!

A quick press on the square button brings up the wallpaper/widgets select screen while a LONG press brings up the cascading tasks windows as you expect! It took me a while to work this out!

Hi again guys,

I was just about to install CM 12.1 on the SF6 when I came across the below forum post from the 'Alcatel One Touch Pixi 3 (3.5)(4)(4.5) Official Thread [ROOT][RECOVERY][ROMS]' forum on XDA developers.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/root-alcatel-one-touch-pixi-34-official-t3193624/page82

Has anyone else had this same issue after flashing on to their SM6? I actually would want to use this as a backup phone so I would need telephone calls to work.

Edit : I just noticed it is listed under known bugs for the ROM,I guess I'll follow the forum a little while longer to see if this is resolved. I don't think the stock ROM is all that bad once debloated of the Vodafone additions.

Cheers guys!

i thought you have to root it in order to uninstall all the junk that vodafone preinstalled and run most apps from the sd card instead of the ones it chooses
horsepills
21 Feb 16 #286
You will get that with certain apps (Sky Go is another app that won't install on rooted devices).
I don't see the benefit of rooting this.... once you've removed the Vodafone apps there's very little on the phone and it runs pretty smoothly - why would you want to root?

20 Feb 16 #284
So you've installed the APK and it fails to root after running it and waiting for the % to go up? It takes a few tries (took me 6) but if it doesn't work then you might have to try the Kingroot method.

I received mine yesterday delivered for £18 from Tesco.

Agree with the 8/10 rating.

For me it's a 2nd phone, my work phone is an iPhone 5s and given that cost over 20 times more then this is remarkably good for the price. The weak points are the camera and also likely the screen as its not gorilla glass and I'm sure will scratch easily.

But it's a real smart phone, pretty quick, love the fact I can put a 32gb micro SD card in for music and films etc. I was amazed came with a proper wall charger and even headphones, this is a bargain and ideal as a first introduction to a smart phone, 2nd phone, media player to a chromecast etc.

Agreed....I returned a Moto G (3G) to Tesco about a year ago as I was slightly disappointed in it for, AFAIR, ~£95 - especially the camera! The camera on this phone seems as good as the Moto but, at £15, it's just fine!
Never mind the iPhone (which, at least, gives a totally different user experience) this handset seems to do most of what High-end Androids costing ~£400 do!

Picked this phone up yesterday and bought the unlock code from the eBay seller mentioned in one of the earlier posts. No problems.
I bought it for my 8 year old as her first phone. I deleted all the unnecessary crap, made the home screen simplified and must admit, for the price you pay, you can't go wrong.
Installed Cinema Box (newer version of Playbox) and it casts to my Chromecast with no problems.

I'm going to give this phone a 8/10 rating.

Right, for £15, what do you get? A phone, and not a bad one at that.

In the box - Sim card and a token pair of headphones / microphone. Fair enough if you don't want to look like Lt. Uhura with a stupid looking Bluetooth headphone stuck in your ear. Gets you going hands free anyhoo.

Plug in the wall USB charger. With data cable. Have a mmmmm..... nice in the Harry Enfield show Jazz Club Style for that little touch.
But, WTF??? I bought a Motorola G 4G just before Xmas, and that didn't come with a charger! PPPPPfffffbbbbbb IN YOUR FACE Motorola!

The phone itself.... Perfect.
Its got a camera for quick shots that you won't be sending off to a professional printers for a 20"x20" canvas.
But, if its a quick photo or video of something, then in good daylight, I've seen a lot worse.
It has the interwebnet. Excellent. I can read the news, look at pictures of THINGS and read HUKD.
Email. I go thru webmail anyway, but it has a basic email client built in.
Youtube. Very good. I can let the little one watch more episodes of In the Night Garden that I care to worry about without thinking "oh no, shes dropped it in the bath or drawn crayons over it." - and the screen resolution isn't bad either.
All these idiots shouting "crappy screen resolution"...... erm, this is a phone. Not a bloody 50" UHD flat panel for watching blockbuster movies on.

Want an IPhone made in the same style of chinese factory but pay a silly amount of money for? Go right ahead.
Anyway, the little one has dropped it already. From her height of about 90cm.
And it survived.

Yeah. definitely 8/10.

Nuds to John59
19 Feb 16 2 #244
Yeah you want the Pixi 3 - 4 stuff (The 4 means the 4" screen model, which is the Vodafone Smart First 6).

1. To root it try:
Link 1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/vodafone-smart-6-vf695-rooted-t3306248
or
Link 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62665551&postcount=2

2. If you managed to root it, follow the next step in the links above (#Twrp or Cwm Recovery (PC version) in link 1 or Flashing Recovery in link 2)
-For the stuff in link 1 the author has all the files you need, just follow his instructions.
-In link 2 you need either Rashr https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.recoverytools or Flashify https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify&hl=en_GB and the CTRrecovery.img in the thread attachments.

3. If you have the custom recovery (You are able to boot to recovery) you can proceed to install the custom ROM. Assuming you want the Cyanogenmod 12.1 Bugless, grab it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63285046&postcount=49 and follow the instructions.
So when you are in custom recovery, install CM_12.1_Final_Pixi3-4 by Faustino.zip AND pa_gapps-modular-pico(uni)-5.1-20150315-signed.zip following the installation instructions from that thread.

You need to read the instructions in the threads closely to see what/where you need to copy files to and what things you need to do. If you are uncomfortable with bricking your phone/using command line to fix stuff I would recommend sticking to stock because this process is not easy!

Nuds
19 Feb 16 #239
Yeah I also got the white line in recovery. It goes away once you boot into the system though.

The guides are actually pretty straight forward in terms of what to do i.e. do A, then B, then C. The issue is when you actually do it you get unexpected errors or different results, then you have to figure out how to fix it and get back on track.
For example when I followed the root guide in the second link using Kingroot, neither of the APK or PC version worked for me at all. I had to root using the first link (Root.apk), and this took around 6 tries, a few re-installs plus the root application is all in Chinese.

Essentially you need to:
1. Root your phone (Try the Kingroot.APK first, install the PC version at your own risk though, I sand-boxed mine because it's most likely Chinese spyware. The root.APK worked for me from the first link)
2. Flash a custom recovery (TWRP, Clockworkmod, I used CTRrecovery.img in the second link) using applications like Flashify or Rashr (I used Rashr from Google Play)
3. Install your chosen ROM using recovery (I installed Cyanogenmod 12.1 Bugless, if you use this remember to also install Gapps IMMEDIATELY after the ROM or you need to reinstall everything)

But you'll need to read the specific steps in the guides and you'll most likely need to switch between the guides as the most straight forward steps probably won't work the first time.
John59
19 Feb 16 #238
Hi guys,

For those that have successfully rooted and flashed a different ROM on their phone can you post a brief tutorial on the process you have used? You would save others the heartache and frustration? I'm sure many would appreciate and benefit from your experience.

I understand that the telephone is a repackaged Alcatel Pixi 3 - 4. But the XDA instructions are not very clear to me (maybe I'm just being thick) when I read through the process with so many other Mediatek phones.

It might be worth having a forum or posting somewhere like Modaco as I'm sure a lot of people will have snapped these phones up at £15 and if you can run CM acceptably then surely this must be one of the phone bargains of the year.

Cheers!

OMG what a load of headache rooting ! I am normally pretty spot on rooting flashing bricking unbricking apk adb etc.

This phone is a ball ache for rooting! Eventually I got it rooted and flashed recovery and tried MiUI 7 rom which looks pretty but slow and installing CM12.1 as I type this, Already soft bricked twice and recovered. CM12.1 is pretty nippy but very plain and GAPPS needs flashing separately. CM actually runs a lot faster than Vodafone ROM.

Do you get a white line right at the TOP ? when you are in recovery or in system ?(after turn the screen off and back on again it goes away)

All of the apps you list (apart from 'Updates') are un-installable. Simply hold on the app in the app drawer, then drag it to the 'uninstall' text at the top of the screen.

The 'updates' app can disabled so that it doesn't get updated in the store, and doesn't waste system resources. Hold on the app in the app drawer, then drag it to 'App Info', then tap the 'disable' button on the app info screen.

I wouldn't recommend rooting the phone, as you are likely to get no benefit from it. You should only root a phone if you have a valid reason to.
Nuds
18 Feb 16 4 #229
It's social engineering, they word it in a easily understandable but technically sound way so non-technical people end up downloading and installing malware.

I've managed to root and install CM 12.1 after a few hours of swearing and fiddling around
It's slightly faster than stock, definitely worth it for £15.
http://i67.tinypic.com/2zovg2x.jpg

The guides I followed were:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/vodafone-smart-6-vf695-rooted-t3306248
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/root-alcatel-one-touch-pixi-34-official-t3193624

This model is the Alcatel OT Pixi 3-4 (3G MODEL). I wouldn't recommend rooting/messing around with it if you don't know what you are doing. Then again it's £15 so it's a nice phone to get started on rooting if you wanted to try it out.

Mine arrived this morning, and it's a brilliant little phone for £15! (typing this with it now).

I have a Galaxy Note 4 on contract, but got this as an emergency backup/GPS for the car. I expected it to be really laggy, but after unlocking the sim (via eBay) and removing all Vodafone apps it's remarkably responsive. I haven't added any extra apps but £15 for a mobile that easily lets you check Facebook, browse the web, watch YouTube, etc.. with no noticeable slowdown is awesome value.

Camera is horrible though! But let's face it, nobody is buying this for the camera.

most times, the day after you buy, they cancel the order when Amazon stock is over, so you are not able to buy it anymore.
It happened to me with the black Friday deal on the Sony smartphone, if they don't like the price they promised, they just say there is no stock and they refund your money (after a few days). I won't use them anymore

Well, Brits don't like hassle like 5 mins to make a sandwich, 5 mins to make a cup of coffee , 2 mins to slice cheese and and who rely on £6.70 an hour or less immigrant worker and then moan about these immigrants using up NHS, long bus queues, less council houses..etc. Put it these way, if Brits cannot be arsed about doing these following chores themselves, you gotta employ immigrant workers to make coffee (Starbucks), serve hamburgers (McDonald), cut up meat (for supermakets), wash and cut vegetables (for supermarkets)... and these workers need benefits to subsidise their low wages, housing and NHS and you pay more tax for things you cannot be arsed about or too much hassle.

Got one delivered yesterday from Amazon for my son and had an unlock code from eBay within about an hour, just waiting for my BT SIM only deal to arrive today and it's a cheap, no frills handset for a 9 year old - it's unsurprisingly not as fast as my s6

If all you're doing is texting and ringing then why not buy an old Nokia style phone that lasts over a week on one charge. That is if all your doing is actually just texting and calling. Cough incognito Mode Cough pornhub.com Cough

According to CeX website - they will buy it for £17 (locked, Grade A), or £22 for unlocked (unlock codes for £1 on ebay)

made me laugh too.
Get in your car, drive to Tesco, park, Que up, wait for details to be taken, wait for them to go get it, sign for it, leave to the car, drive home, 5 minutes!
Might start trying to do my full week food shop in 10 mins from house to back home. Seems pretty feasible based on his ludicrous figures.

Yep agree totally bonkers. OK I suppose if you're unemployed and have absolutely nothing better to do, but otherwise seems like a lot of effort for £6!
davidian84
15 Feb 16 8 #54
Thats nonsense. Deal with tesco queue and staff incompetence. ive bought unlock codes and sometimes they dont work so not so easy. Cex normally have slow queues, Chances are they will drop price before you receive it. cex online is a nightmare. Cex take half hour to test each phone and look for slightest inperfections to try not to give you stated price
lanc1979
15 Feb 16 6 #53
Click on TCB / Quidco, Click to Tesco, Buy it. 2 minutes?
Collect it, 5 minutes?
Code off ebay 1 minute, unlock it 2 minutes?
Cex it 5 minutes?
So £6 in 15 minutes = £24 per hour

Don't know about you, but I'd say that's a reasonable return on the time?
And don't forgot your 15 CC points and few pence on cashback - every little helps!
