You are right my experience is not a scientific study but it has worked well for us and I see no bad side effects so I'm happy

Anecdotal though, the virus could have cleared up by itself and that's most likely what happened. You didn't perform any double blind studies so its not possible to know. I know I'm being pedantic but scientific study is all we have and yes it's flawed but it's the best we have. Many claims for 'superfoods' are unfounded and not studied.

Been using coconut oil for cooking and cosmetic reasons for years now before all this hype. DD has has had a few bouts of a 'virus' which she has had 3 times a year. So out of desperation I started giving her a teaspoon of the stuff every morning as GP said no cure for the virus and just have to leave it to run its course. Has not had that stomach virus or any other since and no colds either coincidentally. Coconut oil is known as an anti viral. It's brilliant for hair as well

I hear this is good for dogs too. 1 teaspoon a day.

Those side effects are rare and are listed to avoid potential litigation. I do agree you could try coconut oil although you'd have no real scientific way of knowing if it worked, just your own perceived effects which could be placebo or coincidence.

The trouble with acyclovir (Zovirax is just another name for it) are the side effects.
http://www.drugs.com/sfx/acyclovir-side-effects.html
dizziness, drowsiness, signs of kidney problems (such as a change in the amount of urine, unusual back/side pain), mental/mood changes (such as agitation, confusion, hallucinations), shaky/unsteady movement, trouble speaking
and it doesn't taste very nice if you get it in your mouth by accident.
Research is very expensive, personally I think it would be worth giving coconut oil a go. Cold sore are going to kill you but acylovir may really mess you up.

Or you could have tried something that has been studied and proven to work which is Zovirax, generic versions are available for £1 or less a tube. Anyway I hope it works for you. Lemon Balm is another cold sore treatment, anecdotal evidence again though.
Coconut Oil is media hyped currently and a fashionable item, it has no miracle properties. This article studies the Coconut hype currently >
Personally I'd buy it if it tasted good rather than use it for any purported medical claim, which are unproven. Just don't eat too much of it, like most things.
I prefer the Asia ones... not as good... but three for £5....smell nice

Seems a good price for organic and extra virgin. For anyone buying for the first time, this type of coconut oil is solid at room temperature.

how is this different from ktc brand stuff which is £2 for 500ml??

KTC is really bad quality as is heat processed and not cold pressed.

I find the extra virgin cold pressed oil to be miles better than the KTC stuff because the KTC stuff is refined oil and doesn't smell or taste anything like this one.

This one is raw - unrefined - and the ktc brand is refined.
