You'll want to delay the first service by a couple of weeks (check with Vauxhall what their tolerance is) then you won't need to do the second service before it goes back. Everyone that leases does this at it saves them a couple hundred quid

Not had any problems with the electronic handbrake. There is an emergency brake you can apply if the electric one is malfunctioning (apparently) - you can force enable this by keeping your finger on the button for a few seconds.
If you're having trouble with one dealer, I'd recommend visiting another. Unfortunately a lot of dealer experience can vary dependent on how busy they are/which tech you get on the day, etc.

I have had mine around 5 months so far on just under 4k and not had any issues. Not heard of anything like that at all. But to be fair electronic handbrakes suck beyond belief what exactly was wrong with the mechanical version is beyond me. I had an insignia a while back which had rear pads disks and calipers all replaced under warrently as the electronic handbrake was not disengaging i think they just need adjusted. However I had been driving away on it and destroyed everything. if it was the front brakes I would be worrying but the handbrake as long as they fix the issue and you park in gear (really should anyway) there shouldnt be an issue.

Just to update about my astra it was due to arrive on the 12th of September but its has had a fault with its electronic parking brake. It malfunctioned on its way to me. So it had to turn around go back to the dealership in Redditch.
It came back the following day to my house after the dealers gave it a checking over and switched the warning light off the dashboard. However when i inspected it, the warning lamp came back on "parking brake service" and I couldn't get the handbrake to engage at all.
The vehicle has now had to go back and has left me in a frustration. To be fair jet have been quite helpful with the situation. They have got me a hire vehicle for a couple of days. But im beginning to think if this is going to be a lingering problem with this car..? Do any of you know or heard of any issues..? I called up my local dealership, and aa far as they are aware there isn't a specific recall on this model. Ive asked for a replacement vehicle as i dont want my wife driving and the god forbid the handbrake malfunctions.

I think you have to get it serviced at the 1 year interval, which shouldn't be too much as it's only an interim service. You have to get your book stamped to prove this. Although I'm not 100% sure if you need to get the second year service done. Can someone clarify that?

Hi
I'm very happy with mine, Jet were pretty decent to deal with. Just make sure to double check your delivery date when it gets closer to it. Mine ended up changing by around a week.
MPG wise I get 37-38 use it only for small around town journeys. I have just drove on a trip away with some motorway driving and country roads and just hit 50 mpg as I arrived. This was driving fairly sensibly, but doing around 75 on the motorway sections.

16 Aug 16#200
Few questions for anyone who actually got one of these astras.
What average mpg are you getting?
Are you happy with it?
Was Jet Vehicle Finance good to deal with?
Any negatives about the car?
Looking at maybe getting one soon, possibly off Jet as well, but need convincing about mpg, whether to go for the 200bhp model instead but that is 30pmish more, or whether i should get something bigger (sportage or xtrail maybe but about £50pm more) as got 2 kids (5months and 3yrs) and dog so need to fit a lot in occasionally.
any advice appreciated

Android Auto is only on cars with the Navi 900 built after 1st June. If you get one depends on when the car was built - taking into account of whether the car is part of a stock pool or not.
You can get the dealer to install the software update (if they're competent enough - some have had problems) for around the £50-£100 mark (usually around 1 hour labour)

6 May 16#158
No, Say in this example the car is £20k, but gets written off after 12 months. By this point, the car may be worth as little as £13k, which the insurance happily pays out.
But wait! you're stuck in a contact with your lease company which states that any total losses must be settled for the vehicle price minus any payments you've made. You've only paid the lease company £2500 in rentals.
So your payout is £4500 short (20,000 - 13,000 - 2,500) and you're liable for that.
mateus
6 May 16#157
Isn't market value the same as cost to replace?
benish7
5 May 16#156
If your car is written off / stolen, your insurer will pay current market value only.
If the unfortunate happens a month after delivery and your insurer settles at 15k for example the finance owed on the vehicle from Jet to the dealer may be more than this and you'd be left with a hefty bill for the shortfall.

I got a speculative quote from Admiral to change my Astra J to a lease Astra K. The price was basically the same once you'd took away the administration fee - I asked about putting the finance company as the registered keeper on the insurance they said they don't do that on multiyear policies (my girlfriend's corsa is on the policy too), but were able to put it in the notes section in case the finance company wanted to see it.
Annoyingly I can get a better quote if I try and sign up on their website as a new customer - but the policy was only renewed in March, so I'm not sure if I want to go through the hassle of cancelling the policy to only get it £100 cheaper.
So in summary, Admiral didn't seem to care that it was owned by the lease company.

Deals like this are a no brainer you are getting a high spec new model car for £30 a week and this comes from someone who has never leased before

Going to commit to an order this afternoon. Been looking at options for high mileage (approx 20K PA)
I was considering buying one until I saw this lease deal. Got an Elite Nav with Parking Pack in metallic blue for £206.97PM, 20K PA. Delivery mid may due to factory order.
Given the depreciation on a 2 year old astra at 40K miles, this is a great deal.

Yeah is a bit much but the deal is so much cheaper than anywhere else and for me I have to park on a busy street the sensors help with the tight spaces
Credit check takes 24hr at max

had to drive one three four times some years ago it was 1.6 in 2012/13
I hated the pick especially on motorways and my current car which was 1.2 was much better in pulling than this
legroom was also not good for a 6.1 tall person
same year drove insignia and was similar lag

3 Mar 16#68
Yeah I think I'll go for the NAV version, didn't realise the difference between the two for the sake of 4 quid.
I don't want to pay 15 quid for parking sensors though, that seems a little excessive to me?
nabby81
3 Mar 16#67
Not sure I spoke to them today and I am swapping to the Nav , they have 2 left one is set aside for me.They seemed to indicate all the models have parking sensors with the 15 quid uplift so 130 per month
As I am swapping to a Nav they should have a Elite in Black with sensors going spare for delivery in 3 weeks
Nav you also get the coloured screen between speedo/ rev counter / shark fin ariel / bigger screen / voice controls

3 Mar 161#66

Even just £4 a month? You're never going to use sat nav in 2 years!? You also get a larger screen with the Nav model... seems like a no brainer to me for £4.
david10666
2 Mar 16#63
basically yes unless you want to wait 8 weeks for a factory order
so you are looking at £131 for non nav and £135 with nav inc front and rear parking sensors

2 Mar 161#64
Yeah thats fine with me I don't mind waiting.
I don't need sat nav so no point paying extra for it!
prodigy8
2 Mar 16#62
So they only have the have the Elite left with parking sensors?
david10666
29 Feb 16#59
I snoozed on the deal and had to pay the extra £15 a month for front and rear sensors as all the non sensor ones have gone I've gone for black aswell but no sat nav will probably regret it
you can get the nav in the blue met for £135 but I didn't want the blue and didn't want to wait 8 weeks for a factory order
I still think its a good deal for a decent spec car as I went to the local Vauxhall garage and I had to pick them up off the floor when I told them the deal

had the same thing at local vauxhall dealers ,he explained "that lease companies commit to say 300 astras ,get them at fleet price such as list less 35% then get guaranteed a price on residual in 2 years " which makes it cheaper than leasing off vauxhall direct as it wont be anywhere near list less 35% .
He was aware of JET and said it annoyed them as the dealer does all the donkey work and the broker sits on his/ her laptop and makes a small margin but sells high volume .
Personally I dont care about vauxhalls politics ,they have sold a car so happy days at 119 a month !!
Could you hire a car for 30 pound a week from hertz / enterprise etc ...i doubt it and if so would it be an elite nav ??

I've just got a quote off them for a 1.6CDTI Elite, 20K miles, metallic paint and parking sensors - 24mo for £195.17 (9 + 23) - not the hottest deal but works out slightly better than buying one.

agreed.
I've had cars that do 0-60 in 16 seconds right down to ones that do 0-60 in sub 4 seconds.
doesn't make a damn bit of difference in real world commuting, although faster cars will generally create more opportunities to overtake etc. But 1.4's aren't dangerously underpowered by any means, as long as you drive sensibly you're fine.

platts007
23 Feb 16#46
Ordered one a fortnight ago ,20 grand car which I know you would get a hefty discount on ,say purchase at 17,500 - but only worth around 8 grand in 2 years so losing approx 9,000 in 2 years if bought ......3,500 for leasing it (not an accountant but the maths do themselves )
Full leather ,heated front and back seats ,on star, nav for 119 a month
So even handing back after 2 years ,you would lose nowhere by leasing as you would if you bought the car

Where can I get a new M3 for 400 a month?
david10666
23 Feb 16#44
I cant see the problem with a shop assistant or anyone else for that matter wanting to have something nice as long as they can afford it
I can remember watching a tv doc a couple of years ago and the guy was a multidrop delivery driver but he also had a Bentley to drive home in good for him I say I'd love one
wrcallar
23 Feb 16#43
I can afford £400 per month for a nice M3 etc but I can't afford £60k to buy one outright. Doesn't mean I'm spending beyond my means though.
soulhunter123777
23 Feb 16#42
So through the miracle of leasing, a shop assistant earning £16,000 pa can afford to drive a '16 plate Audi. While they're at it, they might as well get a credit card (so they can afford a few dozen Armani dresses), a 5% mortgage (for the 5-bed new-build detached villa) and a personal loan to cover the 5-times-a-year holidays to Malibu.
I guess the phrases "spending beyond your means" and "financial crisis" still don't mean much to people.

I have the previous 1.4T Astra, it's had 2 new water pumps, a new gearbox and 2 dual mass fly wheels in less than 2 years. Very nice car and hopefully the latest replacement DMFW will be the last. But I won't be buying another Vauxhall.

I would of thought being the elite it will be good spec I've been quoted on the elite with sat nav for £119 a month just waiting to hear about delivery dates
I have a work van so 8k a year will be fine for me I did go and look at the new a4 yesterday its a big car and I have to say the avant was very nice but as usual the one in the showroom was a s line Quattro with all the bells and whistles
My current banger costs me £300 a year to tax and does 30mpg at best so based on this I would be at least £600 better off over the 2 years and that's without the lower fuel costs and no mot's and repairs to worry about

I've just gone from an Astra to an A4, it's not just brand snobbery. The whole car is more refined and just better put together.
Had the Astra from new too and has been faultless in the last five years.
onlineo
22 Feb 16#37
it is also £1000 more expensive! For a lease deal to work for me it has to cost less than £2k per year. This top of the range Astra does the A4 does not and is not top of the range. Sure it is better brand snobbery but that aside it is bigger.

I have regularly driven both the new astra and the old astra. As it has already been pointed out the old one was an ok vehicle. The new one however is superb, new powertrains mixed with a lighter body give a better feel to the drive, better fuel consumption and better performance. Great car quite a bit better than the older one (which was also a decent car). The 1.4 turbos have always been good engine choices.

Its worth nothing the excess milage generally isn't too bad. Its normally 5p per mile (inc VAT) so an extra 4,000 mile over 2 years is £200. £200 per month (over 24 months) is an extra £8.33 which makes the averaged price about £164. Still cheap.

22 Feb 162#18
And at the end of the day if you bought and sold a newish car the same would apply. You either repair it or the buyer is likely to knock the cost of repair off the asking price :/
Over on Pistonheads huge lease thread I've read that the charges can actually be quite competitive with some lease suppliers. For example I remember one poster saying he kerbed some alloys and was planning to get them repaired before handing back. Just out of interest he thought he'd query what the lease supplier charged and was amazed it was half that of the cheapest quote he'd got.
I guess you shouldn't assume they will always whack a huge mark up on any repairs and check prices with the lease company before getting any work done yourself. You can see for alloy repairs economies of scale probably mean they can be much cheaper then you could achieve for a single repair.

yes if its beyond fair wear and tear they will charge you have a look at the guides on BVRLA that outline what fair wear and tear is in a lease for returning it. i mean a damaged alloy is not the end of the world if its a small scratch but if it was significantly damaged/gored you are going to get charged id say

anyone got any idea on the service thing highlighted before do we need a second service before returning the car.
If you're having trouble with one dealer, I'd recommend visiting another. Unfortunately a lot of dealer experience can vary dependent on how busy they are/which tech you get on the day, etc.
Ive asked for a replacement vehicle as i dont want my wife driving and the god forbid the handbrake malfunctions.
could anyone clear something up for me the car will need serving every 12 months so is there a way I can get away with 1 service if I delay the first one a bit ?
I'm very happy with mine, Jet were pretty decent to deal with. Just make sure to double check your delivery date when it gets closer to it. Mine ended up changing by around a week.
MPG wise I get 37-38 use it only for small around town journeys. I have just drove on a trip away with some motorway driving and country roads and just hit 50 mpg as I arrived. This was driving fairly sensibly, but doing around 75 on the motorway sections.
You can get the dealer to install the software update (if they're competent enough - some have had problems) for around the £50-£100 mark (usually around 1 hour labour)
I wasn't lucky enough to get free parking sensors. Think it was an extra £10 a month for them, which I thought was a little expensive! Brilliant car and deal though! Very happy with mine.

Delivered 23 May.
Parking sensors still show on Jet site as optional but mine has them front and rear
Never specified any upgrades
just another option

Free for first year - but I'm guessing we'll have to pay for the second?
But wait! you're stuck in a contact with your lease company which states that any total losses must be settled for the vehicle price minus any payments you've made. You've only paid the lease company £2500 in rentals.
So your payout is £4500 short (20,000 - 13,000 - 2,500) and you're liable for that.
If the unfortunate happens a month after delivery and your insurer settles at 15k for example the finance owed on the vehicle from Jet to the dealer may be more than this and you'd be left with a hefty bill for the shortfall.
I swapped my insurance over a couple of days ago and it was cheaper than my old car
As for the car its very nice and feels quick and whisper quiet on tickover and the heated seats work well
Annoyingly I can get a better quote if I try and sign up on their website as a new customer - but the policy was only renewed in March, so I'm not sure if I want to go through the hassle of cancelling the policy to only get it £100 cheaper.
So in summary, Admiral didn't seem to care that it was owned by the lease company.
I have been quoted £144 per month for an Astra Elite 1.4T with metallic paint (standard paint is £8 more per month) with 10,000 miles and no maintenance. Adding parking sensors to that adds £12.97 pm. The upfront cost/initial rental is £946.
Cheers.
I have a works van so went for 8k a year allowance but I go away to visit family 3 or 4 times a year so that will save me £300-400 a year in hire car fees

Nice to drive not too slow and car feels well put together.
Tesco went from 320 to 2400 !!
Anyone else finding the insurance rising alot when quoting for a lease vehicle ?
The parking pack was not listed on their website but I enquired directly and they said I could have whatever options I want if it's a factory order.
Road tax included for 2 years
I asked about LED tail lights (£195 addon) and it added £4 to the monthly and £40 up front.
Sensors (£450 addon) added £15 and £110. Seems it cost so much more because they are dealer fit and not factory fit.
Its cheaper to get a metallic pain. The basic solid red costs more with this deal!
I opted for factory order so I could get the parking pack which is only £150 extra (adds blind spot detection, advanced park assist and reverse camera)
8000 miles and the excess mileage is 12.19p per mile. If you exceed 10% (1600miles) it's 18.5p

Which i think takes care of that.
£12 extra month.
Vauxhalls of old have a bed reputation. I had a Cavalier....... My cousin has a Meriva, a new problem every month.
That's really all i meant.
The more i see of this deal the more it appears to be a belter to be honest.
Looks like they've maybe upped their game with this model.
I think it has Onstar as well from what i can make out.
I got a 3+ month quote sent, and its £500 down, inc £60 fee, and £146 a month. 8000 pa.
Not bad.
I went on the Vauxhall site and used their configurator.
Its a pretty decent interior for the money.
Nicely equipped too.
Just have to get past that badge.
I have used car wow to see what discounts you can get on the new astra and the new a4 audi and to be honest I have had discounts of upto 15% on the audi but nothing much on the astra
Full leather ,heated front and back seats ,on star, nav for 119 a month
So even handing back after 2 years ,you would lose nowhere by leasing as you would if you bought the car
I can remember watching a tv doc a couple of years ago and the guy was a multidrop delivery driver but he also had a Bentley to drive home in good for him I say I'd love one
I guess the phrases "spending beyond your means" and "financial crisis" still don't mean much to people.
I have a work van so 8k a year will be fine for me I did go and look at the new a4 yesterday its a big car and I have to say the avant was very nice but as usual the one in the showroom was a s line Quattro with all the bells and whistles
My current banger costs me £300 a year to tax and does 30mpg at best so based on this I would be at least £600 better off over the 2 years and that's without the lower fuel costs and no mot's and repairs to worry about
Had the Astra from new too and has been faultless in the last five years.
are you sure it was the same as this one a 1.4 Turbo and not the standard 1.4 petrol
This 1.4T is rated as
0 to 62 mph (secs) 7.8
Top Speed 134
Engine Power - BHP 150
which is not to bad at all
The old 1.4 is not dangerously underpowered if you know how to drive and dont expect it to pull away at 25mph in 4th.
From a n00bs point of view, it seams leasing might be more attractive if the car you're after has a high list price.
By all accounts the new Astra is a massive improvement too. Not driven one, but reviews are positive which is good news for Vauxhall.
yes if its beyond fair wear and tear they will charge you have a look at the guides on BVRLA that outline what fair wear and tear is in a lease for returning it. i mean a damaged alloy is not the end of the world if its a small scratch but if it was significantly damaged/gored you are going to get charged id say
