Not having a battery is a major compromise for this kind of device though. It's the most useful for mobile devices with limited storage, and then needing to plug it in changes the game entirely. The Verbatim is worth the £24, this one may be cheap but it's nowhere as versatile. Personally I'm pretty convinced I wouldn't use it much if I had it. Lots of hassle.
The current price doesn't mean much as it was £57 on Amazon about a week ago

can you connect to a wifi radio and/or a roku box using this? can you just plug it into a wallpower using a usb plug and access it or does it need to be connected to a computer as well. many thanks.
anyone know if this has its own wifi that you connect to or can it connect to existing network?
on description it says "Normally when you connect to a wireless media player you lose the connection to your wireless router--and the Internet. But with this device's Internet Pass-Through Mode, you can simultaneously access the Canvio AeroCast™ Hard Drive and the web (via your separate wireless router)."
but still unsure if this means I could put it on my home network and have my smart TV access it etc. or if the accessing device must connect to the Hard Drive which then allows internet traffic to "pass-through"?

Anyone know if you can get something similar without the drive, I have lots of old drives sitting in a draw?

I've got one connected to a 500Gb portable drive. You need a USB power supply of some sort but it works a treat - advertises it's own network while in the car, or connects to your existing WiFi when at home, no fiddling about needed. I was going to upgrade the HDD I have in this setup to 1TB but then I saw the Tosh, so thought I'd give that a try instead - bought one.
