Broadband - Pay As You Go + 12

Tablet/MiFi SIM gives you 12GB of data lasting for 12 months.

Seems a great price.

Edit: This includes 4G and the SIM is actually a combi SIM with all sizes. I know they state standard SIM but that is not what you get.

Great deal, however must warn that I hear 3 now block use in a phone or tethering to a tablet - you can use in a mifi (with tethering obviously) or in a tablet without tethering stupidly. I have used them in a phone in the past, but hear it no longer works. :disappointed:

This should work with feel at home, but data speeds will vary hugely.

Each to their own. I've been through Vodafone, O2 and EE and Three. Three have been consistently the fastest and most flexible. Reliability has been fine too. If you go out into the sticks, yeah, Three's coverage can suck, but generally it's pretty good. Customer service isn't fantastic, but my experiences with others wasn't much better. They are cheap and they work.

I used a regular pay as you go sim, with all you can eat data in a huawei mifi , it had bad speeds in Tenerife and three twitter support could be slow to respond, sometimes, but didn't recognize that it wasn't a data sim till I was back in England. 3g In Spain with three is good for whats app etc, but a bit too slow for youtube etc.

That's like comparing a 12 month car lease for £5k with a 1 month car lease for £3k and saying the 3k is the better deal because there are no mileage restrictions.

The most important part of the deal is the 12 month part. At best you can get 1gb/1month SIM for £8. Even the 3gb/3month SIMs used to be £12 at best. This deal eclipses both of those options and is currently £89.95 on Amazon.

5 Feb 16 #55
I have bought one in the past which came in a simpack which you activate yourself (like a Pay as You Go Sim).

I can't remember if it had an "activate by" date on the pack but this price decrease MIGHT be because they are nearing an expiry date.

But you can activate it and not use the data until you need it.

SoggyBeans
5 Feb 16 #51
£30 for just 12gb.

I left 3 because they started getting tight and greedy with they're deals.

The only good thin, is that it lasts 12 months, and if you can stretch that out then it's not bad I suppose. It may be the cheapest and a valid HUKD post, but I still think it's extortionate.

I agree! It's absolutely ideal for what it is intended for and is a hot deal.

It shouldn't be marked down because you can't do tethering with it (that's not what it's for) or 3 mobile coverage isn't as good in some areas as others.

tightar5e to DennisG
5 Feb 16 #64
This should be a lot, lot hotter. It looks like three are trying to raise a cash lump sum for purchase of o2.

Its a bargain compared to anything out there, perfect for people travelling to 'three at home' countries regularly. Similar to what Vodafone did a few years back, where you could buy data without an expiry date, they soon binned that!

I had switched over to EE, because their data was cheaper 6GB for 3 months for £14.99 via prepaymania (or thereabouts). EE Data sims are such a pain to 'activate' and use though. EE sims have to re-activate each time you use it, and if you have a weak signal they can't always do this.

Hated EE with a passion, never worked well outside any built up area or on trains. Glad I can finally ditch EE. EE CS is awful, up there with BT - but then three's CS is too, but their sims generally work better, no re-activation at each use.

Get this while you can, I doubt it will be around for long.
I'd buy more, but got 2 to start with, all depends on the expiry date of the actual sims.
MccK to DennisG

Knowhow was THE deal 11 months ago, also on the three network, for just £5 cheaper. For the price, it's GREAT as a home broadband emergency backup if nothing else.

I think I've probably only used about 3Gb of my 24Gb so far.

Finally managed to order after Verified by Visa failed twice.

Delivery is 3-5 days but I will let people know if there is an expiry date to activate by. These used to cost a lot more than £30 so there might be a reason for the reduction.
helmethead to bemad
5 Feb 16 #63
Could be because the 3/O2 merger is running into problems with the competition authorities, according to newspaper stories, and 3 are trying to sweeten the deal. They've already made some quite extraordinary promises about what would happen post-merger.

This used to cost a lot more so it might be that they are discontinuing these and concentrating on the 1GB and the 3GB ones instead (which have GONE UP in price).

I will let you know if there is an expiry date when I get mine.

If you really want one I would just order as even if you have to activate within the next few months you don't have to use the 12gb up until you need to.

This could easily be discontinued like their 24gb ones.

5 Feb 16 1 #82
It has a phone number and the capacity to send texts but why would you? It's £30 for 12gb of data over a period of 12 months (whichever expires first) and then you chuck it away. The texting facility just isn't needed and I can't think of anyone who would top up extra to use it.

I don't think anyone will currently find a better deal than 12 GB over 12 months on PAYG with no need to ever spend anything more than the initial £30. Sure you can find greater data amounts when you top up £xx a month or have a monthly bill. Sure there will be ad hoc offers from EE and Asda and the rest of them. But for a plain and simple one off fee and a set it and forget it simcard this is great.

You can send text vis online services bypassing threes rip off.

The main thing is can you (make or)receive calls. If that is possible then it would be perfect, 12gb data, receive calls/texts, 3p calls, send text via web for 2p, ALL for £2.50/month.

THAT would be an unbelievable deal.

Please could one of you who receives this sim, try to see if you can call out/receive calls, as since you can send text, receiving calls may be possible.

Data on Three is 1p per MB. So, unless I've got my sums wrong, at PAYG rates this would cost £0.01x1024x12=£122.88. It's a cracking good deal.
bemad
5 Feb 16 #98
The 1gb mobile broadband is being pushed as you describe - voice/texts/data - with 200mb free per month after the initial £10 purchase. But the fact that the texts on this 12gb sim are 10p rather than 2p means they've set these on a totally different tariff to the 3-2-1 one.

I suspect there will be no voice capability at all despite it coming with a number. It's meant for tablets/dongles/mifi devices and not phones at all.
bemad
5 Feb 16 #99
Have only gone for one but you can buy more as it's PAYG. However they might have an expiry date (for activation) that we don't know about. Once activated you get 12 months of course.
nipstyler
5 Feb 16 1 #100
The difference with three is you either have fast data and calls or nothing at all. Having a mobile you can't make a call on is pointless. I travel all over the world with work and most of the time I couldn't even send a text let alone make a call. I also had three allow someone to phone up from a different number. Answer no security questions and take out a second contract in my name. They even had the phone delivered to a completely different part of the UK from where I live. They never called my mobile to check it was actually me. It took three months to get it sorted repairing my credit file and getting a refund. Then when I came to leave they sent me threatening letters stating I was 10 pounds in credit however in the same letter they threatened to pass this credit to a debt collection agency. I still have the letter somewhere as it's the most pathetic example of a company royally ****ING up I have ever seen. I've been with all the main networks too including cellnet, O2 orange, Vodafone tmobile, ee, Giffgaff.

3 comes in first in worst all round experience closely followed by what was t mobile.

Got mine today.

Can confirm:

(1) it is a push out trio sim to match your tablet, dongle or wifi/mifi device but it isn't for phones.
(2) there is no expiry date anywhere on the pack. The inner leaflet is published in 2015 so these aren't old stock either.
(3) It is both 3G and 4G and will connect to 4G at no extra cost if your device/area has it.

Only proviso seems to be that it has to be used at least once in a six month period to remain active (so standard condition there).

Yeah its a good deal.

Just ordered . Cheers . This is a great deal . Had I known about this earlier ,I've just spent £4.99 on ebay for a 2GB data card which expires after 30 days .I just need this for occasional use .

If I have few mb left in this month it will add that in to next month or it is 1gb in each month ?
ricko
5 Mar 16 #129
As far as I believe it's 12GB you can use over 12 months , or you can use the whole 12GB in one day if you want , but it's useless after that , or spread the usage as and how you want over 12 months . There will be no rollover as there is not a monthly limit .

Got this sim card to use in my tablet in Spain last week. What a waste of money as it never worked. Had to end up paying for WiFi in hotel which cost me another £13 for the week.

I think that because it's a pay as you go 3 sim, then it has to be registered for at least a month before it can be used abroad?
Not sure if this still applies??

Could anyone tell me if I could swap this Sim into my mobile for occasional web surfing, checking emails and then when finished swap back to my normal phone sim. Don't know anything about mobile broadband really as have Sky broadband at home at moment but want to ditch them. The fact it lasts 12 months would suit me fine if it's possible so I could cut down on my outgoings. Advice appreciated.

I wasn't offering anyone my balls. Good luck to you if you believe they are the best. Unless you live in a city life on this network can get pretty annoying. I have a personal phone on O2 network and a work one on EE. Between them I can always make a call. When I was on 3 I could very rarely make a call when travelling.

All I can tell you is both my son and I have them in dual sim chinese phones and they work fine. But when I asked the guy in the 3 shop he said that a data sim would not work in a mobile, I knew he was wrong because we have been buying data sims off ebay for a few years because I don't believe in Contracts never had a mobile contract in my life. We all use lycamobile PAYG , As long as you have credit you can phone all your family for no charge.

it appears that three no longer allow tethering on the PAYG £20 AYCE to up? I paid £5 for AYCE on my main phone which is pay monthly but can't tether on it either. was hoping for a tethering option on my old PAYG account...
