Saw this on ebay and ordered one last night as I have been meaning to get one for a while since my HDTV only does freeview in SD. Thought this was a right bargain at under £12.50 delivered, especially considering you can record to USB.

I had one of these, yes it was on the slow side but the main issue was I connected a wd 500g HD and it wouldn't recognize it, tried NTSC and Fat32 , yet when I plugged in my 32gb memory stick it found it straight away?... was I doing something wrong? Tesco refunded me and said I could keep the machine as its not economical to send replacement.

Been looking for a tv recorder so this looked great but just googled and reviews are dire. Most people saying they have had to return as unusable. It apparently constantly freezes, doesn't play HD with sound, remote doesn't work.

I don't like this product or Tesco's Technika stuff generally. Most are surely going to be better just buying a decent Freeview box with 500GB or 1TB of recording space, which has USB add on in addition.
That said to be fair, its cheap and will suit a lot of folk for spare room or teenagers bedroom, so HOT.

But it does not work right, so whats the point in buying it in the first place even if it is cheap

If its a spare room probably not going to get used much and might just last. If its a kids room you don't want to be spending much. If you get a duff unit and have problems return it?
EDIT: Not disagreeing it's crap, and I wouldn't buy it myself even at this price.

I got one of these last time it was a deal on here. It has a sticker on the box "this product can not be returned to store blah blah"......you have to contact ebay outlet for help.
My machine is hooked up to a bedroom tv and is only used late at night for short periods but still it has frozen a couple of times. I simply switch the power off at the plug, wait 10 secs and then power back on, that fixes mine.
Other than that it works fine...nice HD picture on HD channels + with an ethernet cable connected there are other free channels like motors tv and a few others, though non of which interest me.
For the price and secondary use I thought it was OK.

UTTER RUBBISH, i bought one of these for my kids as i thought i couldn't go wrong for a receiverver for this price. Boy was i wrong. The EPG was so slow and the picture kept breaking up also it kept freezing. Stay away at all costs. If you are looking for a good cheap Freeview HD box with cathcup i would look at the Manhattan Plaza HD-T2 Freeview HD Smart Digital Receiver. You should be able to get them on ebay for about £8.00 although no HDD you can stick a memory sticjk in the back to record.

ive got one of these. works okay on 24/7 as our main tv freeview box.
Quirks are:
Doesnt recognise my USB Stick (tried formatting in fat32 and ntfs, neither work)
Picture freezes for a split second when buses drive past the house (not cars though) so im guessing that could be signal related

I bought a Huawei Youview box for the bedroom off ebay ages back paid about £70 for it but you can get them cheaper now and its the best TV box ive ever owned. It has twin tunners so can record 2 things at the same time, the picture is way better than my Virgin media Tivo when watching HD channels. I only use it in bed but it never misses a beat the EPG is very fast it has all the ondemand stuff, NowTV, Netflix, iplayer, ITV on demand, 4OD and five on demand it also has UK TV on demand and for the kids Milkshake. One of the best things though is the App if your out and about and forget that theirs something on you want to record just fire up the App and hit record and when you get home it will have recorded it, ive done this loads of times and its never failed to record. It only has a 320gb HDD but its been more than enough for me i still have 50% space left but i should think you could change the HDD for a bigger one if you needed it.

To me, it's a cheap FreeviewHD box with a feature I wouldn't expect it to have. At £12.50 I don't really get the argument. At that price it's worth a punt.

Delivered yesterday and set up tonight and working no prob for last 5 or so hours lol, well impressed HD very good and even has a media player for watching movies, music, photos from usb. Well worth the money (so far). Using on a 5 or so year old 50inch standard Freeview plasma.

Has anyone else had difficulty playing the recorded .TS files from the USB on a computer? I've tried every media player, updated codecs, tried to convert it to another format but nothing works with them. I'm really out of ideas.
EDIT: After doing a bit of research it appears the box scrambles or encrypts the files so they're only playable on the STB. Pretty disappointed in that regard. Tried lots of different programs like TSRemux, TS Doctor to no avail. Pretty disappointed with that, I take it all Freeview HD boxes do it?

Bought one for the spare bedroom at my parents house (which gets used maybe 5 times a year max) and the TV is an old 21" Goodmans CRT with VHS player built in.
Ideal for the few occasions the room gets used - i saw all the negative comments about how bad the box was, but it will be used so infrequently i dont care, and buying a more expensive box would be a waste of money.
Off topic: Has anyone watched TV on an old CRT recently? My eyes were hurting from the screen flicker - something i had never noticed before when they were popular!

It was running from about 6pm last night til about midnight no problems, no freezing really good. The epg runs very fast with no slow down but time will tell only had a few days. Will give a good test over the weekend.

EPG is slow on mine and the remote is pretty retarded in 'what buttons do what' but for the price I'm happy with it. Still can't believe there's still only about 5 channels in HD on the service though, wish they'd get a boot up their **** and hurry up with more channels.

Good point, i would have thought by now all channels should be HD. Its all about 4K now but they cant even sort out regular freeview and now we have lost BBC 3 another HD channel. There will eventually be about 2 channels in 4K then onto 5K lol.
