The Tales from the Borderlands - Season Pass offers the best value for getting all five episodes (Episodes 1-5 Available Now) in this new take on the award-winning universe created by Gearbox Software.

Set on the unforgiving world of Pandora after the events seen in Borderlands 2, this is a story full of Borderlands’ trademark humor, following two adventurers on their quest for greatness.

You’ll play as Rhys, a Hyperion ‘suit’ with dreams of being the next Handsome Jack, and Fiona, a Pandoran con artist looking to score her biggest ever swindle. Thrown together as unwilling partners in an adventure to recover cash they both think is theirs, their journey will take you on a wild ride where gangsters, bandit lords, and Vault Hunters are just some of the obstacles you’ll encounter.

Bull s...h..i...t. stop comparing Steam with consoles. Steam and PC games in general are cheap is because piracy is a massive problem on PC meaning companies are willing to lower the price to prevent piracy. Consoles are closed systems meaning piracy is extremly low. Think for a second how PC games look and run better than console games yet console games are still more expensive even compared to a disc based PC game. Also most PC gamers just aren't willing to spend full price on a game. How many times have you seen a PC gamer say they will will when the game is in a steam sale?

If you think money hungry companies like EA and Activision will lower console prices then your a mug. Console gamers have shown them they are willing to buy games at full price which the RRP is 50.00 GBP so they will keep it like that. I can't believe you honestly think these companies will lower their prices if discs didn't exist. Its complete nonsense.

Then tell me why is on Steam where 99% of the games can only be bought digitally the prices are so low? That's right because no physical copies.

So devs can afford to reduce the price, from digital devs earn 70% while 30% goes to Steam/PSN/XBL whatever.
For physical less than 50% for devs, 25% for retailers, 25 for the companies. You can Google and do your own research if you want.

Devs lose money from physical alot due to used sales which no profit goes to devs, renting, borrowing etc while Digital devs earn more while none of the drawbacks as above on TOP of the extra profit margins so devs make their games really cheap digitally on Steam.

If you think games would be cheaper if physical media didn't exist then your insane. There will always be greed and companies want to milk people as much as possible. If anything if physical media didn't exist then digital media would become even more expensive as it would become a monopoly with less options and competition.

I completely agree with you. It's a consumers right to be able to resell your goods. The difference is the movie industry has already made their money in cinemas, pay on demand streaming etc and owning a film on tangible media is a bonus, not relied on. Everything else you mentioned naturally devalues with age, use, built in obsolescence and with the desirability to upgrade etc. I do see your point, but gaming imo would be cheaper without having to pay for the retail, media, distribution and stocking fees and artificially higher price knowing it's going to change hands multiple times. Each to their own though, but I see your view. Also when a major hyped game comes out and everyone has preordered it (devs made their money prerelease) before a review comes out and it's an unfinished turd, chopping it in quickly before it looses all value is a good option, but if you couldn't it there would be a higher level of quality control

The same applies to most industries. There is always competition and always people buying and selling used items.
Business is tough. Its only the games industry that sees unnecessary sympathy about people reselling what they purchased. Video gaming is a luxury, its naturally going to be under pressure more when the economy isnt great.

When people sell their blu-rays, DVD's, laptops, cars, tvs, mobiles, microwaves, homes, the company that made those wont be getting anything either. People are not going to throw away old products they can get money for, and only buy new products, because that is unsustainable.

As for gaming on steam, if I paid for every game I have played on playstation on steam, it would require an amount of money I dont have because although the games are cheaper, any money that is spent on steam is gone. I would just be able to play fewer games for the same amount of money.

It's true games have always been resold but back in the day we didn't have a digital delivery system. I remember Neo Geo games being £70 each and SNES games £40-50 back in the early 90's. The real price breakthrough came with the PS1 where they were around £30 due to CD being cheaper to produce. Due to the CD and mod chips the PS1 was probably the most pirated system in history. Everybody was complaining that piracy was killing the gaming industry, however, developers were looking at consoles sold and geared their games towards the Playstation. Piracy aside, there was so much competition games had to be GOOD. No day one 20gig patches, broken games on release or even the idea of DLC. To me, piracy is less of an issue now. Even last gen consoles that were jailbroken or modded etc still feared the ban hammer of online play, which is a huge part of gaming now. People are prepared to pay for the full experience. Not only that, the years and years of development that goes into the average AAA and production costs are astronomical. A game can change hands in CEX, Ebay or Game countless times from launch to £1 bargain basement. The devs and publishers only get the royalty once. Wouldn't it be better for the gaming community to pay a small licence fee that's a fraction of the cost of the retail copy for digital download, knowing it can't be traded? People would buy more games and the companies would profit. I've been buying regionally on the Xbox One since launch. In some countries the price is a third what the UK stores are. Its not tax dodging, the dev companies still get the same royalty regardless of region but we get stiffed because it's what Microsoft price according to the countries perceived affluence. Next gen will be media-less and I hope we get the cheaper prices to reflect. Look at Steam. It's amazing how quickly new games drop to silly money while those of us who don't have a decent rig are paying nearly double for the same console title.

Most people don't even buy the DLC for Call of duty and thats like the biggest franchise out there. Even a game like Battlefield 4 with a reasonable season pass with decent maps are all abandoned and people just play the standard maps.

How does it work with playing games online you buy from the canadian store? If I buy Battlefront will I be playing on american servers?
m.ad to lukec123

Do you know most people dont even buy DLC let alone allow it to influence whether they keep or sell a game they have.
I probably buy DLC for 1 game in 10 I play.... and I still sell the game after playing the DLC. I doubt many people buy DLC's for most of the games they own (maybe that small group of trophy/achievement completionists, but no-one else).
Keeping the game that much longer while gamers play the DLC isnt a strategy designed to combat pre-owned sales.

The only influence I can see it having is holding up the price of the game, for both new and pre-owned copies for a little while longer.

The question they probably asked themselves was "How can we make money from an idea people are willing to pay money for and keep the income rolling with minimal effort, until we are ready to release the sequel in a year or two?"

This is the second time I've decided to jump on the Canadian PSN gravy train and this time I have purchased Axiom Verge.

Its absolutely crazy how much cheaper some games are on the Canadian PSN and shows how badly we can be shafted by the UK PSN.
adam0812 to MrChi
24 Feb 16 #51
Canadian $ has has taken a beating one of the reasons why its that much cheaper. US PSN deals a lot less appealing that they used to be because of the relative strength of their dollar now.
GQ Man to MrChi
24 Feb 16 #52
Ive held out on Axiom Verge as i just discovered thats it going to be a Cross-Buy title when the Vita version arrives in the next few months so a UK PSN deal is what im gonna have to wait for as its far to much hassle swapping accounts on Vita.
adam0812
24 Feb 16 #50
Because MS and Sony need to maintain retail relationships to shift their consoles, what do you think would happen to Amazons software sales if they were selling games at £35-40 a pop when could buy them of PSN for £25-30? They're not going to be content selling just consoles because they make fk all money on them. On PC having a retail presence is not important since there is no "PC box". Granted many games on PC are cheap because the codes are obtained from regions like brazil, ukraine etc but even a full price game on UK steam is still less than it is on PSN/XBL

I really can't make up my mind on whether to take the plunge on Bloodborne. I have feck all patience these days with games so I just know I'm going to struggle and give up (sooner rather that later as well!) ...

But its less than £15..
adam0812
24 Feb 16 #48

DLC gives people a reason to hold on to a game. How many more copies of star wars battlefront do you think would be in CEX if people (stupidly) hadnt stumped up £50 (or whatever it is) for a season pass? Less used copies means more sales of new copies.

I'm not saying it is the sole reason DLC exists but do you honestly think no publisher has asked themselves the question "How can we stop people trading in their games"
darkspace100
24 Feb 16 1 #47
Games would still be DLC ridden even if used games didn't exist because all these companies want is money. Its why i don't understand that there are people who think digital games would be cheaper if discs wouldn't exist. Its completly false.
fps_d0minat0r
24 Feb 16 1 #46
lol so the pre-owned market that has existed since gaming began is to blame for games being 'DLC ridden these days'?

If pre-owned didnt exist, all it would mean is people play fewer games for the same amount of money they plan to spend on gaming.
Its true without pre-owned the money would go to companies and not gamers who are reselling, but that also means gamers who are reselling dont get that money to back to buy more games, so it cant be argued that the money they spend would otherwise end up at retailers, devs and publishers. The amount of money people spend (excluding income from selling games pre-owned) would still stay the same if pre-owned died. Their disposable incomes wouldnt magically grow.

Tales from the Borderlands is Telltale's best release in my opinion. Great characters and humour. There are some quicktime scenes but it's mostly story. Well worth it for £3.88!

I don't actually have my ps4 yet (It arrives later today). I take it to the PSN has an account per region. How does it work in terms of playing the game if you have multiple accounts?
Can you keep everything installed on the ps4 and just switch between accounts to play the games? Or would it wipe the ps4 like the amazon fire tv does when you swithch accounts?

Edit: I found this guide:

Thats because this game isnt available physically.

If it were there would probably be a deal on it where you can buy it, play it, then sell it for more, as there have been with game of thrones, the walking dead S1 & S2, and wolf among us in the past few months.

Anyway, enjoy your £47 digital copy of farcry primal. A nice 15% PS+ discount you got there.
