Hot deal, not a big enough improvement over my current Z3 compact but still a nice price.

You can pick up the Z3 Compact for as little as £130 second hand. The improvements in this model are minimal - it still has only 2GB of RAM, which is fine but you'd have thought they could have put it in line with its bigger version and given it 3GB.
Basically it has a slightly better camera, no flaps on the USB port (although there is now no dock connector), a slightly improved - albeit maligned - CPU upgrade and a slightly less premium feel if you ask me.
If you really want one of these though, this is a good price - and coral is nice and funky!

Completely in agreement with you about the size. If I want a large screen I use a tablet, laptop or desktop PC. For carrying around with me, I want a compact phone.
I'm currently looking at mobilephonesdirect, as they have the phone £299 simfree and then a Vodafone simonly deal (cashback) with 3GB data which works out at £6 per month. Yes there is the hassle of doing the cashback, but that's not a problem if you put a reminder in your calendar when it needs to be done.

Yup, very happy with it. Camera is superb, good battery life and a comfortable size phone.
Can't be doing with the current trend for phablets and this is the best "small" (see: normal size) phone out there right now.
The phone is £300 so contract is effectively £9.50/mo and for that's good for 2Gb of data on a major supplier.

All sd810's are the newer version.
Oneplus also did "optimisation" such as no two cores next to each other can be loaded 100%... Well it doesn't work.
Just check out anandtechs thermal throttling graphs. It's still a problem. The oneplus 2 doesn't throttle as much as others but it still gets hot and performance isn't amazing.
Sd810 is quite simply a turd, you can polish it so much but it's still a turd.
Sony also just announced an sd820 phone that is 5"...

It is a funny one this I have owned this phone for a few months, my perspective is slightly different. This phone is an investment that got to last me at least two years , it is powerful and compact. I wanted a small phone that I could fill up with tons of apps over the years. Considering it is the only small android option I think it is a pretty badass little phone. I think it is better geared to someone who loves productivity apps, a power user rather than a gamer

I would look at reviews for Simply Electronics first. I considered them, but decided it must be cheap for a reason after reading many bad reviews, with similar stories!

I considered the s6, but the less compact design, no sd slot, not waterproof and I don't think MHL support swayed me to stick with the Sony compact.
The screen on the S6 was obviously crisper, but it's good enough on the Sony and all the other features are more important to me than the screen.
The S6 is a great phone, but not better for my needs. Depends what you find useful I suppose.
That said, I wouldn't go with Vodafone for free.

That's a very good price and heat added, but it's slightly cheaper on Simply Electronics at £292.95. Is there any reason not to go for this over Tesco if you don't care about Clubcard points?
Edit: I see that the URL has been changed from what I typed in - is that a sign that the retailer isn't trusted by HUKD?

I have the Z5 compact and not only it uses the updated version of SD 810 which optimised and lessened heat, the Z5 less demanding 720p screen and smaller screen and optimised OS I never felt any heat from my many months of usage

I'm on iPhone now but I was previously on the Z1 compact and I loved it so I can only imagine how much better this phone is.
Before anyone says: "Why didn't you get this one then?"
I like using all phone OS's, I just rotate each time I get a new phone. Next time I will be back to Android.

Agree that it's not much of an upgrade from the Z3C and the really heavy discounting since release, while welcome, is a cause for concern as this usually suggests hardware issues like the LG G3/4. Worth a go though if you are looking for a compact and are still on the Z1C or an earlier smartphone with a smaller screen.

I don't think it means there is an issue necessarily, only that they haven't shifted enough units for whatever reason. That said I've been disappointed with sony phones, even their flagship phones don't seem to translate the spec into a good experience in the real world. Won't be buying another.

I was really looking forward to the z5 Compact, pretty disappointed with it when came out though. Normally phone designs don't bother me much but the Z3 Compact is much nicer to behold and I got one of them for £150 (grade B, but been great) from Smartfonestore instead.
It has shown me that whilst it is nice having the smaller size, I do prefer the screen size of the S5 which is just about perfect size for day to day use for me.

I agree. This is a super deal, in a fantastic phone. I have recently upgraded from a z3 compact, and apart from the fingerprint sensor and the exposed charging port on the z5 compact, I much prefer my old z3 compact.
The z3 compact is thinner, feels lighter and better quality, and I can't tell much difference between features and performance.
This is a great price for a high end compact and waterproof phone. It ticks all the boxes for me anyway.

I've had the Z3 Compact and the Z5 Compact, it's not worth the upgrade, currently... I'm hoping the imminent release of Marshmallow changes my mind.

21 Feb 16#22
Can't see how it would, changes aren't dramatic. Gives you space for apps on your SD card if you use adoptive storage and runs a little smoother with better battery life, but the phone will essentially be the same phone with marshmallow as before.

Ive got one of these and it seems quite a lot of these (including mine) suffer from a problem with lag/random restarts, freezing. Hopefully will be resolved when marshmallow is rolled out for it next month. If the update fixes this it'd be a great phone. Good price.
