If you've been purchasing the free ps+ games every month, you'll be spoilt with games. This'll need a memory card though, I'd advise a 16GB.

Nah if you're going to get a memory card, might as well go big. 64gb min. It's expensive but saves you having to choose which games to delete so you can download new ones. Especially if you're not in a fiber area making redownloading quite painful.

I bought both to compare then sell one, I sold the oled, honestly I wouldn't bother holding off for one in particular, you only notice the screen difference when they're side by side and the slim is easier to hold, has better battery, and has 1gb built in, the oled just had the screen. The oled screen is very nice but it's swings and roundabouts, one doesn't have a distinct advantage over the other, at the end of the day I'd be happy with either.

I'm honestly expecting a new Vita model this year, probably one to address the main concerns of the current model (Sony wouldn't fracture the customer base on something that sold as badly as the Vita), one of which i suspect would be memory media.
This is however a good price...actually tempted...

Highly unlikely from what I've seen/heard. I can't see them pushing money into development & production for one of their devices that is niche & unlikely to gain further ground now. Many analysts suggest that Sony will step out of the dedicated mobile gaming platform. But, who knows eh - none of us are insiders.

7 Feb 161#22
As a previous PS Vita owner, be careful: without a memory card, this device is almost useless. You need atleast a 16GB card (literally the minimum). Check out the prices for the PS Vita memory cards (the console doesn't use normal microSD cards) before you invest in the console, the 64gb card is like £60-70 on it's own.
Daltone to fire_emblem
7 Feb 16#23
Well that has put me right off.
What is so special about it? Sounds like the kind of move a company beginning with N may try to pull off.

The prices for memory cards are pretty expensive. I actually took advantage of Ebay's "20% off" offer a few months back in order to buy a 64GB card.
I bought an OLED Vita many moons ago. Just waiting on a really good deal so as to get another one for USA PS1 games. This deal is good, but I don't have any stores near me, and I think I might be able to pick up one for cheaper if I just wait a bit more. I'm in no rush anyway.
For me, the Vita is the perfect PS1, PSP, Indie and Vita machine. Such a great piece of kit that has been criminally overlooked by the masses. Wish it was doing 3DS numbers as I think that Sony now have the greater pedigree of first party titles mixed with third party support (in general). Obviously this statement doesn't apply to the Vita but one can wish...

I've recently bought one (off eBay, £80 refurb) for remote play and it's ace! We've got BT infinity (20-30GB is the usual download speed) and with the ps4 wired and the vita obviously wireless it's pretty senseless. Rocket League has a slight bit of lag but I personally think that's more due to the smaller screen than the actual controls, it handles fine, just plays differently to the TV. Bloodborne and Fallout 4 work great, far better than I ever expected and both are a joy to use on the small screen. Again, in sure everyone has different experiences but mine have been ace, fully justified the price i paid. Heat!

I remember how great killzone mercenary was, imo greatest handheld shooter ever. Released around the same time as Shadowfall and Mercenary owned it in every department (story mode, longevity and replayability, the guns were better, had a well implemented vanguard system, the melees looked awesome especially the ones where you knife the enemy in the crotch and through the skull pulling the brains out, fantastic flawless multiplayer which worked and epic maps (plus the dlc maps blood gracht and tharsis refinery))

Good price but these should be, maybe, £79 new by now. Then they might sell a few and develop a few games...

7 Feb 16#33
Tbh Sony missed a trick with the rear touch pad being utilised over trigger buttons, Sony were too concerned about how slim the Vita would be and would have achieved more had they opted for triggers instead, same applies to the Thumbsticks, the lack of integrated L3 and R3 buttons in the thumbsticks has put developers off the system. They needed to mimick a Dual Shock controller but the touch screen tablet feature was the only real highlight.

I got myself a Vita about a month ago, and think its an excellent piece of kit! So many games I wanted ended up being "free" because I owned PS4 versions either because I bought them or they were on PS Plus and they turned out to be cross buys.
Even though the Vita never properly took off there are dozens and dozens of top quality games available, mostly on the cheap now as well. Only took me a week to more or less fill a 64GB card.
Some of the games you could play forever and a day as well. Games like Everybodys Golf, Wipeout, Killzone, Virtua Tennis 4 still have really active online players.

I don't really play a lot pf games at the same time. Normally try to complete one before starting another. Just completed Golden Abyss and started Gravity Rush. Got AC Liberation and KZ Mercenaries on the card along with some smaller games like resogun, helldivers, black swan and Oddworld. That's more than enough for me to carry around. Got a 8GB memory card with a couple games on it as well!
is it worth getting this ...hasn't it just flopped a bit
nickkelly to cabbage10
7 Feb 16#43
It flopped a lot unfortunately, there are almost no new games being released for it any more. It has a decent back-catalogue of games, but I wouldn't buy one if you will be wanting to look forward to new games to play on it.
I think the proprietary memory really hobbles the device, compared to SD cards the proprietary Vita memory is ridiculously expensive, and as others have said, some of the games are large and you will need a 32GB card at the very least. Changing the cards all the time to play different games is awkward, the tiny cards are very easily lost, and because you can only use the cards in the Vita adding and removing games is much more of a hassle than it should be. The OS isn't great, is not particularly fast or intuitive, and file management isn't great.
If you have a PS4, remote play is really good and almost worth the price of the device in itself, and if you have PS+ and have been activating the Vita games already its definitely worth the money as you will have a big catalogue of 'free' games to play on it.
If you don't have a PS4 or PS+ I would say have a look at the back catalogue of games to see if there are enough you like to make it a worthwhile purchase. I hardly use mine any more.
Traldera
7 Feb 16#42
That's why I think it's going to get replaced. When it was created it was marketed as a standalone platform, and to a degree it still is, but the vita still has great value being sold as a remote screen for the Ps4, I mean that's the only reason I'm looking at one. A new hardware revision would allow them to remarket it as such

Shame the memory cards are so expensive because to pay almost as much as the console itself for memory of a decent capacity is just poor compared to the cost of an equivalent micro SD.

Too limiting - you need to use a different account (making your digital games inaccessible) and you're bound by the DS4's distance to the PS4.
If you really want to use the DS4 for Remote Play, just used the cracked Android app on a phone / tablet and use a Micro USB to Micro USB cable (or your phone charger cable connected to an OTG adapter) to connect the DS4 controller (Bluetooth is too laggy for me).
It's a much cheaper alternative if all you want is a decent Remote Play experience and it'll work away from the home too (actually very playable over 4G for a lot of games - maybe not online FPS though).
Add a phone mount (UK seller / HK seller) and you have a decent handheld console to run emulators, Remote Play and Android games

Just as a reply to this...
1) You only NEED a small one, which is inexpensive - but yeah, you'll probably want a larger one. The cards are expensive (I got two 64gb ones at £50 each) but I feel it's weighed against by the amount you can store on that and how many FREE games you get on PS+. I have over 100 games on one of my cards, I use the other card for videos. If you're getting the Vita for £100 then buy a 32gb memory card for £30ish and it'll be more than enough - a complete system for £130.
2) Rubbish. One of the most astounding things about the Vita is the speed of the games booting. Starting a game from scratch is at least as quick as another console. Where it really comes into it's own is that you can turn the vita off (not even pausing, just mid game), leave it for a week, turn it on and carry on instantly.
3) The screen on some modern phones is now with some higher definition than the Vita. This Vita though is a GAMING DEVICE not a phone, it's a few years old, it's covered in gaming controls, two touch screens, two cameras, motion control and the screen is very impressive. Also, it's £100 - a modern phone that has a better screen costs far more than that. Also, it's not a phone?
4) Yeah, but it's not a proper handheld console with bespoke games is it? It's a tablet that you can plug a controller into, with none of the games or gaming capabilities of the Vita.
It's not without it's flaws, but I actually consider the Vita to be the greatest gaming device of all time. There's been better systems for their time, but this is the pinnacle for me as of 2016. The power of this thing to it's weight/size ratio is ridiculous. I'm playing games that are more advanced than the PS3 had on a tiny portable screen. It's got features galore, can store masses, is reliable, it's got a massive back catalouge and you can stream play PS4 games on it, on the move. Crazy.
For £100 it's a total no-brainer if you like gaming.

Sadly I sold my lime green Vita import from Japan.
It's a great looking console with some brilliant games like Gravity Rush and Tearaway and it has some great indies like Hotline Miami.
That being said it was mainly a dust collector. The 3ds might be clumpy with inadequate graphics and screen resolution but it will always have Pokemon, Mario Kart and Monster Hunter which you can sink hundreds and hundreds of hours in to. I just felt the Vita always lacked any killer IP and all the ones they could have developed are now on the PS4 anyway.

Even though this is now expired, this is still a totally rubbish comment.
There may not be many AAA titles planned, but there are still well over 200 titles in development for the Vita to be released over the next 12 months or so.
According to the Vita store, there are still a couple of games being released every week. Since the turn of the year the Vita has already had:
The Legend Of Heroes TOCS
Digimon Story (For all the pokemon lovers out there)
Oddworld New And Tasty Remaster
A Boy And His Blob
Crypt Of The Necrodancer
Atelier Escha
Darius Burst
Super Meat Boy
Earth Defence Force 2.
Check here if you want to see a huge list of upcoming stuff:
There is plenty to look forward to. Just because its not getting games anymore that cost millions upon millions to develop, doesn't make it dead.
I mean, mobile phones have been getting games that are slung together literally overnight for tuppence and they seem to be faring OK are they not?

Not looking for game backups. Had a quick google but got stumped by custom bubbles and email hack etc?........ any easier option?
I have snes etc on my old psp but surely the vita gives better performance on emulators?
kristianity77 to superfamiking
8 Feb 16#83
You can yes but its not worth it. Hacking it at the moment only gives you the PSP side of the hardware. Which in turn means all the PSP emulators. So because SNES ran quite poorly on the PSP (because the hardware wasn't quite fast enough) it still runs poorly on Vita. So really, its not worth it for emulation. Totally worth it for playing PSP games on it though or if you like the older 8 bit emus etc which do run perfectly.

Well that is surprising after Sony said they were dropping development for it (http://uk.ign.com/articles/2015/10/23/sony-confirms-its-stopped-first-party-vita-development). I haven't bought a new game for mine since Tearaway, I checked and that was released in Nov 2013! I have a PC so many of the games on the list I already have, a large percentage is Ps3/PC indie ports and JRPGs - I'm not saying that's a bad thing, Neon Chrome in particular looks interesting to me, and Full Throttle Remastered will be good as a cross-buy, but that's not what the system was sold as. Sony sold it as a portable console-like experience, there is a dearth of 'AAA' games like Tearaway, LBP, Rayman, Uncharted and Gravity Rush, even Fifa, EA's yearly cash-in hasn't been made for the Vita this season.

A couple of stores may indicate online they have stock, but I wouldn't bother making a special journey.
EXPIRED!
Current temperature 840 degrees - lets see how much hotter this non-deal will now go.
I just felt the Vita always lacked any killer IP and all the ones they could have developed are now on the PS4 anyway.
unless you like anime in which case go wild
There may not be many AAA titles planned, but there are still well over 200 titles in development for the Vita to be released over the next 12 months or so.
According to the Vita store, there are still a couple of games being released every week. Since the turn of the year the Vita has already had:
The Legend Of Heroes TOCS
Digimon Story (For all the pokemon lovers out there)
Oddworld New And Tasty Remaster
A Boy And His Blob
Crypt Of The Necrodancer
Atelier Escha
Darius Burst
Super Meat Boy
Earth Defence Force 2.

There is plenty to look forward to. Just because its not getting games anymore that cost millions upon millions to develop, doesn't make it dead.
I mean, mobile phones have been getting games that are slung together literally overnight for tuppence and they seem to be faring OK are they not?
I have snes etc on my old psp but surely the vita gives better performance on emulators?
