Not 100% sure that model is listed correctly as it looks like the 2015, but has a barcode for the 2014 model?

What is the genuine state of Android on these, a lot of people talk about improvement after firmware updates, but many say the problems continue!?

I returned my second one before the most recent update, but at that point it was still pretty poor. The problem isn't entirely Android itself either, it's the combination of Sony's own TV firmware/software (which creeps through depending on what you're doing) with Android slapped on top of it. These models weren't designed for Android TV from the beginning and you start to realise that they more you use it.

Have the 42" version. Excellent TV. Love it.

This is not the TV in the title of the listing. The details show it as an older TV which matches the photo with the world cup on it.

It's a mess! ...if true, is this older TV worth the price?

Good question. There are reviews for the 829 and it was a best buy before the last word cup. Not android either. Maybe a good buy

Is the TV in this deal better than the deal posted a couple of weeks ago?
Makes you wonder what model the 18 people who have bought one are expecting. The Argos catalogue number & EAN all point towards the 50w829 (which some would argue is a better TV).

Mine arrived today and is all set up - very nice it is too.
The TV I received is the 50inch 50W805C as the eBay title listing states.

It makes you wonder what Argos storage facilities are like if they can find all these 2014 TV's hidden somewhere. Gold dust if you want one.

I managed to get this tv ex display for 329, it was mint, very good for gaming and streaming (kodi) etc. Not tried 3D but very nice looking.
Even at that price I would say you would struggle to find better.

I just returned the 43 inch version of this to Tesco. My main issue was with clouding on the screen, it was pretty bad. I turned down brightness and black levels etc which helped but then the image was far too dark. If you watch it with lights on in the room you may not notice, but I used this set in the bedroom in darkness and the clouding was very noticable and distracting, especially in dark movie scenes. Also when using you view it froze or switched on and off on me at least half a dozen times during the few days I had it. I almost tried to talk myself into keeping it as I really loved the features on this set and the picture was excellent.
I'm now actually considering ordering this in the hope that I had bought a dud and this will be better, but I think I'm just being overly hopeful.. Be interested to see of anyone else had clouding issues, as this was my main concern and ultimately why I returned it.

I have the 50w829 model & have a very small amount of clouding in one corner. I didn't bother to return it because I knew there would be a good chance of getting one that was worst. I remember reading on various forums at the time that it seemed a pretty common complaint with edge lit LCD TVs.
I turned off the automatic backlight sensor, done some basic calibration & now don't notice it at all.

so is it an 805C or a 829 ?

The seller will not accept questions so wait for a buyer to report back ? My guess would be 805C because I can't believe Argos would have 2014 stock left.

I've used XBMC from the original Xbox days and on many HTPC builds including Windows, Linux , Apple TV2and more recently Android via cheap Chinese boxes and the FireTV. On the latest firmware it seems to work fine. Only real issues I can see are with Android TV itself and not the Sony in particular (ie home screen layout). I think a cheaper TV and an Nvidia Shield might be the ultimate solution currently for tinkerers however for a single box solution with great picture the Sony (at £449 John Lewis Price Match) is hard to beat.

They were selling a 2014 / 43" last week. Good TV allegedly
FYI Argos had the 829B listed earlier in 2015, but replaced it with the 805C. However for a while the catalogue/website was not updated and thus if you ordered an 829B you got a 805C.
I would.expect that this is a similar thing, ie they didn't update the marketing photos for the new model, since the physical appearance of the TV is identical. It probably is a 805C though.

I've got the 42" one (with the World Cup packaging) and it's excellent for PS3/4 and PC gaming.
Its not bad for TV either
Also the cheap £1 3D glasses you get at cinemas work fine with it too.

I think you must have a different model. This has active 3D and won't work with passive 3D glasses. Also I think this model comes with a 43 inch screen.

I've had it on for a few days and used the TV with both an Xbox and Wii U and again have had no issues with either. I haven't tried any of the games on Google Play though. The TV updated itself when I first started it up and the system appears stable.
Am most impressed with the 3D (my previous TV was 2D only. I didn't buy Sony branded 3D active glasses but went for the cheaper Samsung glasses Amazon Link to Samsung 3D glasses.
Finally I had a DTS surround sound system that I hadn't been very pleased with when using it with my old TV but this one syncs perfectly and again happy with the results.
Sorry to hear that you had issues with the model you bought but so far this TV was more than worth the small price paid.

Did it come with a smart remote and is there a freesat input? sorry for asking so many questions. Any chance you could post a picture of it on BBC 1

It came with a standard remote and therefore has no microphone (although to be honest the only time I talk to my TV is when a programme is annoying me!!).
There is a satellite cable connection (I have a Humax Freesat recorder so I do not use this input).
Annoyingly the Reminder function on Youview isn't available but as I watch via my Humax box that isn't an issue for me personally.
