Before you decide to never buy Seagate again though actually read that article. The spate of failures relates to 3.5" 3tb drives manufactured 2012, current drives don't appear to be as prone to failure and the drive in this product is a 2.5" 2tb drive which wasn't the affected drive anyway.

Do these contain Samsung or Seagate hard drives? I need to replace a 3.5" Seagate with a (hopefully) quieter 2.5" Seagate in an iMac (using as storage, am using an SSD drive to boot), for the Seagate specific temperature monitor lead. I notice in the other 2TB Seagate deal, it contains a Samsung hard drive.

While technically a decent price the previous news article I read yesterday was that Seagate were the subject of legal proceedings in the US over it's woeful failure rate on drives, granted it won't relate to this specific model, but in general i'd prefer to take my chances with something else.

My 'order' came today and unfortunately they decided that a WD Elements (for more money!) was a suitable replacement. If you contact customer service you should be able to get the £18 code replaced with a £18 or maybe a £20 min no spend code as a gesture of goodwill (this is based on previous threads that I have read).
Also if you opted into marketing you should get a £10 off £50 code in subsequent weeks, which you could potentially stack with the no min spend code.

protable drive or desktop drive for xbox one? been told to go for desktop with its own power supply as its less the xbox has to do and would possibly run faster?
BigYoSpeck to ricola
3 Feb 16#81
I think most portable USB powered drives use less than 3W, it's not going to trouble the USB out or add sufficient extra load to the XBOX power supply that it's a genuine concern. It will run cooler, quieter and not be as susceptible to damage from movement as with them being intended for laptops most 2.5" drives have mechanisms to prevent damage if moved while in use.
A desktop drive with it's own power supply has the potential to be faster, but it's bigger, will use more power, be noisier and needs to be kept stationary when powered on.

Call up customer services or slap a post on their social media and very politely express your dissatisfaction with the service as a new customer. They're pretty good when it comes to good will gestures, I wouldn't be surprised if they give you a £20 discount code or something in that region.
