Perfect balance of speed and comfort. Scott's 2015 CR1 30 is ideal for long, casual Sunday morning rides. For 2015, the Scott CR1 30 Road Bike has been redesigned to absorb shock and vibrations, promoting a smoother, more enjoyable ride.
Since its inception way back in 2003 - where it was the lightest frame available at just 895g - the CR1 has been a popular choice for pros and enthusiasts alike. Since 2003, the CR1's IMP Carbon frame has been improved time and time again, with the 2015 version being the finest model to date. Today it sits below Scott's premium lines yet with its bargain price gets you a modern, high spec carbon bike for the same price as most alloy bikes.
The Scott CR1 30 Road Bike may be the entry level of the CR1 but there's really nothing entry level about this great bike. With a well regarded geometry and carbon layup combined with a tasteful Team inspired paint job, its a bike worth lusting after.
Previously the Sora groupset would put you off the CR1 30 but Shimano's latest incarnation in 9 speeds offers every bit of the refinement and class of it's flagship groups. With full STI levers putting braking and shifting at your finger tips combined with crisp shifting mechs, the Sora Drivetrain is everything you could want and need.
Completing the Scott CR1 30 is a selection of finishing kit from their own in-house brand Syncros. With every part tailored to the CR1 30 in house, this finishing kit perfectly compliments the character of the CR1 30 resulting in a fine tuned package which will provide years of riding enjoyment.

At this level of bike, the wheels are going to be just as important, if not more, as the groupset, I wonder how these three bikes compare, I know when I slapped a pair of Fulcrums onto my titanium bike (although slightly lighter than these) and it felt like a different machine.
I honestly find it hard to believe Sora offers anywhere near the refinement of the other Shimano flagship groupsets, but you couldn't expect it, at a price, not much higher than the Halfords Carreras.

Wheels are the one thing that all bike manufacturers skimp on, you won't get good wheels on any sub £1k bike.
If you want good wheels include them in your budget and sell the ones that come with the bike to help fund them.

Sora(!) about this but a bike for over £1000 with Sora groupset that has been reduced to £699 isn't hot in my book - carbon or no carbon.

Doesn't matter what the item is, you're paying for the development behind the article. For bikes like this a lot of effort has gone into the geometry of the frame and setting up the carbon in a specific way so it flexes to absorb bumps, but doesn't flex at the pedals.
This is why Planet X, and Ribble bikes are cheaper, they've been using the same old frame and frame moulds for years

Voted hot by mistake. Though this was decent spec. But sora? Come on!

I would choose the Scott brand any day over Vitus, this is also available in one size only so not a deal, you can always find odd leftover bikes at reduced prices pal, just give the poster some heat instead of criticising everything, do you even have a bike?

Scotts a newcomer relative to Vitus

yes, I actually have five! and one of them (Cannondale Caad eight) has Sora, and its cack! Tiagra 4700 and up in Shimano, or SRAM Rival and up are way better - 105 is a great blend of performance and reliability)

other than being 9 speed, what do people think is actually wrong with sora?

My defy 3 has Sora and it's perfectly good for most people that ain't racing snakes, my new bike, a defy advanced 1 has Ultegra and you can feel the difference, the difference in price of these bikes is £950
However, it's all relative and if you want a carbon bike at a decent price then this is a great deal surely

Sora 3500 is essentially the previous 105 (5700) with 1 less gear and maybe a bit of a weight penalty... I don't get the sora hate....

Yeah mechanically and weight wise it is, but this time around 3500 seems to have skipped the nasty (imo) silverness of the 4600 groupset for the nicer looking black of 5700.

...same way Nokia 3210 phones served people well. But compared to a new smartphone? Meh.

Ridiculous comparison. The difference between this bike, a £300 decathlon one, or £1k plus is tiny percentage points. They idea that somehow a kg of weight or a slightly different angled position is life changing is preposterous.
