These things get incredibly hot, literally too hot to touch.. Many reports across the net of the same issue. I was not comfortable having it in my machine so binned it.

If you would't mind rooting through your bin and digging it out. I'll give you 50p for it. Cheers.

For transferring files, it seems decent. I would've kept it just for that and not leave plugged in when not in use. Binning it seems a waste.

Far, far from ideal.
I keep my SD card in my laptop so it's there when I need to transfer out, not having to remember to take a separate USB dongle I can't keep in the machine or my Projector for fear of fire.

Fair enough but why not just sell it or hand it down to someone? Binning a 32GB stick is just a waste, that's all I was thinking. I'm sure SanDisk ran extensive fire safety tests on these sticks as they are everywhere and I never heard of any actually catching on fire (yet).

I built my workstation and render server from the ground up, several grand. I wouldn't want to risk anyone else's kit any more than my own.
I would strongly suggest you purchase one to draw your own conclusions, rather than playing devil's advocate with zero experience of the product in question with someone who has. The mind boggles...

Also suggest you read some of the amazon reviews. Take a gamble if you feel inclined.
4.5 out of 5 stars reviews at Amazon and you saying this flash drive is bad ?!... and those stupid comments about fire risk... ohh man

You realise over 1/3rd of buyers have not given 5 stars?
You realise one in ten are complaining of scorching overheating in both one, two and three star reviews over the entire 910 respondents?
I would deduce that it's USB3 ports this thing is having issues with, and those who are giving it 5 stars are the now legacy USB2 ports.
I suppose if you're using some budget laptop you are more likely to cut corners with accessories too, but only an idiot would entertain risking expensive equipment to save a couple of quid in the face of such extensive and damning reports of a dangerous fault which is causing everything from data loss to skin burns, much less the data you place on it.
Your machine's warranty will not cover damage inflicted by 3rd party accessories, so don't come crying when the plastic plate inside your USB port melts, or compromise the integrity of the soldered joints on your motherboard.
USB plugs are designed to be ablative and fail over time because it's easier to replace your USB cable than have a USB port re-soldered in to your machine.
You have not bought this product, you have no experience of using it, and so I find no legitimacy in your argument. Do not even remotely risk other people's hardware and data by disregarding a worryingly large number of reports from verified buyers who condemn it as hazardous and unfit for purpose.
Go find something else to do with your afternoon to help others, not place them in risk.

How many usb flash drives scores 4.5 at amazon ?! I own this product for over a year - yes it gets hot when in use but fire risk comments makes me laugh...
