Quick bit of advice please - i'm looking at the 48" version of this tv and unsure as to if I should get the 4k model or standard LED model. I'm just concerned that older standard definition programs might look worse on 4k with the extra pixels? Any comments appreciated from anyone who owns the Samsung tv. Cheers
twinkle to freebiehunter
29 Jan 161#10
My friend has the 48 inch and everything looks fine on hers...certainly don't look worse.
MBeeching to freebiehunter
29 Jan 162#11
Are we talking 480p standard def? It's potentially worse as you're asking a 4K TV to create 8 million fake pixels in the process. I'm not sure if this TV offers a 'pure' option to upscale 1080p content (1 > 4 pixels).
If you do buy one I would reduce sharpness to zero, turn all the stupid motion enhancements off and enjoy it.
Uridium to freebiehunter

I have the 55" 6400 and SD looks if anything slightly better than it did on my 1080p Panasonic VT Plasma it replaced.
The Upscaling on the 55" is one of it's strongest features. Can't vouch for the 48" for sure but I would expect the chipset inside to be the same
Go instore somewhere with some SD material on a USB stick and test it if you want to be sure

That's what they charge...so with the extra £50 fo the standard warranty (whatever that is..says breakdown of covered parts and that customer must pay for TV to be returned to them) that's £684....John Lewis have it at £749....so what to do as I've been waiting for this to drop.

anyone upgraded from a 50" plasma to a 55 led? My plasma still works fine but fancy a change, due to the size of the bezel on the old plasma the 55" led isn't really much bigger, in fact I think its actually not as tall. Can't decide if it is worth going for a 55" as wont really seem much bigger or to look for a 60" but the deals on 60's seem to be quite rare. A 65" is to big for the wall I intend to put it on.

Yes, just upgraded from a Panasonic plasma to a UE 55JU6800. The plasma looks more natural on some content but the 6800 is a great TV. 4K is impressive and some HD content after up scaling looks just as good as Netflix UHD.

Mrdom to Zameen
30 Jan 16#57
Looks like the differences is mostly that the D&G one includes accidental damage cover and the £50 warranty is just parts and labour. So if it breaks they will repair but if a kid knocks it over or whatever then you're on your own. Though you might be better off claiming on contents insurance anyway... plus if it happened in 4 or 5 years time the TV would probably only be worth about the extra £180 you would pay on top of the other warranty anyway.
