just to warn people this phone has a couple of odd limitations, which if you use mapping apps, could be a deal breaker!
- no compass. yup, no magnetometer (also no gyro, but nothing at this price does). wtf samsung.
i think no light or proximity sensors either, someone confirm?
- only 2 finger touch screen.
(may be issue for games also?)
this plus the waterproofness, plus the software pushed me back to the MotoG 2015.. sorry boring i know.
also this isn't dual sim (neither are).
the 1.5GB RAM though is a huge bonus. (it's not 50% more usable working space, it's more like double because of the system usage).
and that OLED screen.
there is no phone at this price point that doesn't have one huge problem. i've looked hard. (MotoG problem is 1GB RAM). P8 lite has small battery. M4 aqua has doubtful reliability and camera. etc etc.
edit2: size wise there's very little in it.
142.1 x 71.8 x 7.9 mm vs 142.1 x 72.4 x 11.6 mm tapered on the motog (thinner edges)
motog a LOT less slippery! probably irrelevant in a case..
cameras, jury's out on that, personally i prefer the HDR on the motog.
they are both slow old Snapdragon 410/Adreno 306 but the Samsung is slower clocked 1.2 vs 1.4Ghz motog.
if you want a faster phone and don't mind the screen/battery, look at the P8 lite.
I wouldn't call 2600mAh battery "massive"
It will suffice however

The camera isn't bad on the Huawei, it's the screen that's the problem. It's dull and washed out with poor peak brightness levels (difficult to use outdoors).
The J5 camera isn't awful, it's just not as good as the other phones with 13MP sensors.
Every phone at this price is somewhat compromised.
No updates however, Samsung barely support flagships, nevermind lower models.
The Moto G is well supported and updated.

27 Jan 162#49
I disagree about the Camera. The J5 has issues with dynamic range in daylight (blowing out the lighter areas, or crushing the detail in the darker areas), and there is no built-in HDR mode to compensate. I also found the J5 to feel a bit cheap and flimsy compared the solid feeling Moto G 3rd. The rest of the points are fair though.
I'm surprised this is getting as hot as it is, considering it's only available at this price to a small minority of people who own an active Vodafone PAYG SIM. Maybe that detail should have been included in the title, at the moment it's a bit misleading.

27 Jan 162#7
Internal memory only 8gb you really need to point this spec out as I personally think this is not useable if you plan on using and install a handful of apps. If you don't use you your phone much I think it's fine but 16gb is a minimum. The snapdragon 410 is fine in this price range. All other specs are good too. Also I would put upgrade in the title just so people know it's only upgrade

It's probably fine if you don't install games. Regular applications aren't usually very large.
mynameisthehulk to ssjinzo
27 Jan 16#9
Dependent on what the OS takes up on these (and I am unsure) 8gb is usually enough for more than a "handful" of apps. It's games which take up space, if you play games of any type but especially 3D games you are right 8GB will not be enough, 16GB probably won't either. There are however a lot of people who don't have any games on their phones at all and for these people 8GB should be plenty.
acholflocik to ssjinzo

with android it doesn't really matter as it has a microsd slot so any big games can just be installed and moved to the sd card

Probably but some apps like what's app and other messaging services store images videos ect on to the phone memory and you cannot set it to store on memory card. A lot of people have auto download set. Iam sounding old here now but a lot of younger generation send messages and pictures to each other and don't memory manage so 8gb fills up really quickly. But each use case us different just a heads up to perarants buying for there children. This has been the case in my experience a lot of people who have kids only have a few messaging apps and bulk of storage is taken up by that.

27 Jan 16#36
I agree with the blacks and they're definitely more vibrant and nice to look at but the greys have a yellow tinge which really put me off, and the pentile matrix was noticeable on my Note 4. Made my iPhone 6 look like it had a higher ppi. The main issue I have is the eventual screen ghosting when the OLEDS deteriorate (might have been what you meant by ink spots).

I use whatsapp and im thinking it must be using the phone memory to save the photos as that is the only thing i can think off that is using up all the internal memory.I know for sure the camera is saving photos to the sd card. The good news is that the j5 is getting marshmellow and apparently you can use the sd card as internal memory. Other than this, its a fantastic phone.

I'm really hesitant about phones with 8gb memory. Yes a lot of the apps etc can be moved onto sd card but some cant and taking software/updates into account you're not left with much.

Thanks
