Is it better than a cheap 4K set? Depends on what you want to do. If you have little to no 4K content/use it for console gaming then almost certainly. Is 3D dead? Probably.
1 year warranty only. Other outlets are considerably more expensive, some do offer longer warranties though. This set is £70 more with a long warranty from Richer Sounds. You decide if it's worth the difference to you or maybe you can similarly insure this for less anyway.
Don't forget quidco, probably makes it closer to £420.

Don't bother wasting your time buying 3D. That ship sailed along time ago. How many people bought into 3D only to find that they rarely used it? Manufacturers are now focusing their efforts on 4K. So if you get one and there's an issue with the 3d part you'll have problems getting it repaired and will be offered a fraction of what you paid. invest in 4k which likely to be around a lot longer

I think everyone would love a 4K telly, but truth is I have zero 4k to watch on it now or likely any time soon. My use is like 25% SDTV, 50% 1080i HDTV and 25% 1080p games/bluray. From the friends I know, this seems fairly typical. Still loads of SDTV content around I watch. Even if I streamed some 4K, it's gonna be like 5 percent of my viewing at best.
A good 4K set this size that can upscale really really well so that it doesn't look worse with 1080p than a really good (budget like this) 1080p set.............is not a budget set. Pretty much £1000. Then you have the advent of HDR which most don't yet support, plus the extreme price crashes of OLED the past few years which is easily better than anything 4K LED anyway means dropping big money on a new LED 4K HDTV seems premature.
In less than 4 years 1080p OLED has gone from ~£8000 to £1300. 4k sets now available are ~£2500. It's not a stretch to think by the time 4k content has saturated the market in 3/4 years you'll be able to get an £800 OLED that basically renders current 4k LED technology obsolete. It'll likely make that 4 year old decent panel 4k LED set you paid over £1000 look like trash by comparison.
ONLY buy 4k if you have the content and use NOW. If you don't and won't for a few years, do not drop a bomb on a new 4k TV.

the price is very cheap for the quality of tv.
it's not the best 1080p panel but it's very good one for a ridiculous price. in fact now is the time to be buying 1080p tv's all the morons are spending money on cheapo 4k sets so you can pick up high quality 1080p tv's for dirt cheap prices as they aren't selling as they should.
so a big thank you to everyone buying 4k, your making the good tv's cheaper.

First of all you say "Don't bother wasting your time buying 3D."
We aren't buying 3D we are buying a tv. The tv may have 3d compatibility but that doesn't matter we are buying a tv for use as a tv.
Then you say "Manufacturers are now focusing their efforts on 4K."
That's great but I don't use much 1080p content never mind 4K. Broadcasts are all either 1080i or 720p. The limited streaming I do is all 1080p. Gaming however is all generally 1080p or less my console will never output games at 4k.
So yeah I don't use 4k or plan on doing so anytime soon.
You then say "So if you get one and there's an issue with the 3d part you'll have problems getting it repaired and will be offered a fraction of what you paid. invest in 4k which likely to be around a lot longer"
Issue with the 3D part? what exactly is the 3d part? the panel?? well if i have an issue with the panel then it's an issue with the panel not 3d. if the panel goes the tv goes so yeah the whole thing will need replaced. nothing to do with 3d because if the panel goes in a 2d tv guess what the whole thing will need replaced also.
"invest" in 4k? why? the panels that are any good cost 5 times what this tv costs. all the others are crap and have issues.
it was the same when people were buying cheap 1080p lcd sets people advocated buying a decent 720p plasma.
it's the same now people are buying cheap 4k sets well researched people are advocating buying a decent 1080p panel.

where you referring to yourself or me. Before you answer that let me just that the comments I made were not said without an understanding from my day job of the general parts availability of amongst other things led/LCD displays. as we saw with plasma once newer technologies evolve manufactures stop manufacturing component parts especially displays instead contracting it out to companies like vestal, located overseas. Retailers will rather incurred extra shipping costs or risk panels getting damaged will instead look to alternative ways of resolving issues

I have this and with the tight tweaks the picture is stunning. I often get comments from people who come round on how good the pic is. the 6400 in 40 or 48 inch are both very very good. that's why this is the same cost as some 4k TVs still. even the j6400 which is 4k isn't much more than this but that does have audio lag issues it seems. was 449 on curry's a little while back

Maybe I'm in the minority, but myself and my partner really like 3D movies and would choose to watch a movie in the cinema in 3D. Hopefully your wrong and the movie companies keep on giving customers the option.

Been watching out for a price drop on this set, it never goes down by much so this is excellent. Apparently one of the best sets of recent years. It's discontinued now, so they will become available less often. Oh dear, I'm very tempted.
Poor SD picture upscaling e.g SDTV and DVD. Slow motion processing, even narrower view angles than this. Average contrast. Painfully slow menu system. Debatable benefit of 4k on a relatively small screen.
It's ok but if you really want to 'invest' in a 4K TV for the future either pay at least twice this price for something big enough with genuine future proofed HDR support, or just wait. HDR is really the key to actual 4k advances, if you buy a 4k TV without support for it and claim you're future proofed you're probably making a mistake.
