Even if a sata4 comes out, your sata3 drive will probably still work in it just like sata 1/2 does in sata 3.

I got one of these about a month ago and it's bloody Frozen so can't use it. Having so much hassle trying to make a boot Ian drive to unfreeze it and get it working. Samsung support was nonsense. Anyone else had this issue?

Have you tried putting it in the microwave for 3 minutes on defrost?

Is there a replacement of SATA3 planned for HDDs?

Western Digital was going to release a 4TB Hybrid HDD that used SATA Express, but that got shelved. The SATA Express interface has been a complete flop.
I reckon HDDs will keep using SATA III for at least the next 3-5 years.

The 850 Pro uses the same 32-layer 3D Nand technology as the 850 Evo, but in MLC form rather than TLC of the Evo.
In the real world rather than a test environment, you're really just getting a better warranty though, its pretty much like pre-paying for the old Product Warranty Cover at Currys. Also, if you use more than 1 PC its overkill.
Its been cheaper too, but only for a day on Amazon, £76 as I remember and seemed like a mis-price at the time, or clearing old stock, 6 months ago.
Given PCs are unlikely to be using Sata-III interfaces in 5 years, let alone 10, I really can't see the advantage of this over say the MLC Sandisk Plus (3-year warranty) where you get almost twice the storage 480GB for the same price. The Sandisk Plus do exactly what they say, doubt you'd actually notice. I'd also rate the Sandisk Plus above the Sandisk Ultra II, for most general use, because they are MLC rather than the Ultra's TLC.
Other points:
If your looking for FDE (Full drive encryption) Samsung do offer this though, where as Sandisk don't.

That is hot price for a Pro drive.

pro is what business needs/buys, they are the ones who require the extra edurance.
750 evo *should* appear soon at a cheaper price than 850.

Endurance does not matter, because the evo has endurance of 5 years (but I think it has been tested to go on for 10-15 years+)... and if you want an endurance of 10 years, the drives would have become much cheaper, larger and advanced well before then, so you are likely to replace anyway.

I'd like to second that, even if performance wise the difference is not great, the extra longevity of the MLC memory of PRO is worth the price difference.

Why is the 850 Pro so much more expensive than the 850 EVO?

Much better performance, top of the line of the SATA drives. Only Sandisk Extreme Pro comes close. More warranty, non-TLC memory thus more endurance and warranty.

P and R are very expensive letters to print
in all seriousness, it's got about twice the MTBF, and performs about 5-10% better. Not a deal breaker for most (myself included) who opt for the evo
