Great when you're working under the bonnet of the car and drop a bolt which always seems to land in an inaccessible area

Just because you don't find it useful doesn't mean others won't.

The ultimate gadget would be one of these with a fibre optic lens at the tip, that sends the image to your phone. It'll probably exist at a viable price in about 10 years.

the rest of you may not know the pain on losing a screw into the dark bowels that exist behind my worktop but trust me; this magic stick is going to be earning its keep. HOT

How on earth is this even a thing? How often do you need to pick up something ferrous in a dark place that you can't reach with your fingers? Cold.

Personally? Quite often which is why I have one.
But hey, you used the word ferrous so you probably know best. I'll throw mine away.

I managed to drop a drill bit into the garden shredder, really needed one then, it took ages to get out even with a torch !

I have one similar to this that I specifically bought when I lost a headlight bulb within my headlight unit. Not a cat in hell's chance I could get it out by hand. The only two options were to remove the headlight unit or use this tool. As the car was only a couple of months old I decided to use this tool, and it worked a treat.
Also great for stray nuts and bolts when working under the bonnet, as previously mentioned.

I need a very narrow but strong one of these. my son has snapped off the tip of the headphones in his macbook so there is no sound.

Whenever I use these things in an engine bay, they stick to everything EXCEPT the bolt you've dropped !
