I recently ordered the 3D Virtual Reality Headset Phone 3D Glasses from gearbest i posted on here approx 3 weeks ago (see 1st comment for a quick review) and have been really surprised at how good they are for £8 odd.
Just had an email probably based on my previous order for the RITECH VR 3D Glasses II using code GBRITECH to get them for just over £6 odd delivered.
Personally think they're better than my previous buy as the have a focus on top depending on what size smartphone you have and also have a magnet on the side so you can select different settings etc without having to take off the headset.
currently using with a Samsung S6 edge, phone fits fine with it not rattling around and been really clear through lenses.
Personally i've used it 5 or 6 times in the last week and found it really comfortable.
Straps can be fully adjusted and seem decent quality that should last.
Apps / Games i've currently been using are as follows
Pretty fun, you actually turn your head to move the lever to continue the ride, i'd say it's worth the 69p for the full app but it's currently free to try.
I can't really comment on this game personally as only spent a few mins on it, family members have tried and within 5 they were screaming and jumping around (Ghost story / game) - Best played with headphones in!
Also if you're looking to use your VR with say a PC this can be done using TrinusVR
I've given it a quick go and seems to work well, there's a trial version so can test before without spending a penny.
-------------------------
Back to the deal itself, i THINK this is a better deal due to the magnet on the side of the VR and if you don't have a bluetooth controller with a normal headset you sometimes have to take out the phone to select what you need, not a great pain but you could be doing without it.
also has a focus button on top depending on what size phone you have.
It's also £2 odd cheaper - Don't forget to use the code GBRITECH to bring it down a tad - Grab the deal HERE or hit the 'Get Deal' button
Phone fits upto 6 inches and has really good reviews.
PS - If you do have any recommendation on apps / games etc, feel free to comment

I bought a Ritech V2 and have been REALLY disappointed...
I used to have an Oculus Rift so I know what is possible.. And to be fair.. A phone is more than able to give an impressive VR experience.. But not with the Ritech!
The reason being is that the lenses do not focus on the phone.. The phone needs to be 3" further away for them to work...
I am "blessed" with poor eyesight and have a prescription of -8.0.. With my glasses on it just about works, but then its a bit uncomfortable.. But when I am wearing contacts, I simply can't focus on the screen.
So luckily for me, I can wear my glasses and just about use it, but gave up after a few mins.. But people with good/normal vision can't use it as they can't focus.
As such, its not £6 well spent.. I still want a "cardboard" VR solution whilst I wait for Sonys PS VR system, but can't find consistent recommendations of any which are worth the money.

Good write up and deal. Hot and purchased along with bluetooth joypad too for 5.99

Well worth having though!

Hi Rob - and Thanks fellow gooner, Tillidie for the original post. I'd like to follow suit and buy the joypad - but unclear from the product description as to whther it will connect with iPhone, unless through a Jailbreak. Not sure why I'd would need to Jailbreak for a simple bluetooth connection - any thoughts?

I've never had to pay tax on anything from China so I wouldn't worry about that, however, to be honest this wont really show what is to come with Oculus and HTC, it's just a glorified google glass that you can make at home with a cardboard box and a couple of lenses.

Personally don't know, but seeing as Sony are bringing out their own version and no supported games as of yet, highly doubtful (might be wrong though)

I havn't.. Another headset? I can't say with 100% certainty that the Ritecks won't work for everyone.. But my other 1/2 (who is an optician by the way) had a look and she also found the focal length too short (but not as bad as me).
Another thing to consider is that we are both mid-40s.. So younger people may not have such a problem with them...
jweaver
25 Jan 162#31
No supported games  The list is at 91 and growing...
Don't confuse Sonys offering and these "Cardboard" VR headsets.. the PSVRs competition is the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive and will cost £100s.
The Ritech headset is basically a Plastic "Google Cardboard" headset....

£399 I recon.. After having a OR DK1, I know what to expect and would pay anything (literally)... But I just hope they have cured the motion sickness! I never get suck. Boats.. Cars.. Plane.. Rollercoasters.. Nothing makes me sick.. But VR... That was the worst feeling I ever head.. Got a full sweat on and my brain got so confused, it actually got worse when I took the headset off.
I said at the time that this could be the downfall of VR and I hope I am wrong.

I've returned a RITECH II to amazon.
Cold as poorer field of vision compared to cardboard headset (all of these 'focus' ones tend to have poor FOV) and can be difficult to focus.
The poor FOV (field of virw) makes the VR not as immersive.
This also has slots which let's light in.
Plus points for having a magnet though.

Tried it with Elite - works and is quite good - you can look around the cockpit as you'd expect. You need to know where your keys are and the resolution is lower then you can get on screen - I have an s5 mini so could do with a better phone for VR use. Not sure if I would do more than dabble with it at this stage. Also connection via USB is well worth it- I bought a 3m cable of amazon!

Ordered mine a few weeks ago and it turned up on Saturday. How do you focus the lenses as i can only move either of them left or right to 3 different places?
I gave them a quick test by trying to watch film on my phone and it was unwatchable due to the screen looking like it was crossing over with each eye, or when changing the position of the lenses it made part of the screen disppear.
Not had chance to try with one of the VR apps yet but so far i'm rather disappointed as i thought it could be used to watch videos etc as well....... unless i'm doing something wrong but i can't see how i am? :man:

6 Feb 16#88
Doesn't seem to be well suited for smaller screens (mine's only 4.8inch) as you can still see some of the phone frame while using it, ruining the immersion. I wish you could adjust it so the phone would be slightly closer to the lens, then it'd be perfect for my phone (the 3 settings don't fix this issue).
Regardless, for £6ish I shouldn't complain, it's a big improvement in comfort and build quality over the cheap cardboard one I bought last year.
ianbeany
16 Feb 16#89
Mine's only 4" (my phone I'm on about) and its a complete waste of time with this. No immersion whatsoever. Google cardboard is 10x better for people who only have a small one like me.
I might try and modify it so the screen sits closer to the lenses. Or i might just chuck it in the bin. We'll see..

Is it necessary to have a Bluetooth controller too or is it easy enough to use without?

So I have given up on the idea.
Have you looked at the previous deal i posted? I've had no issue with them, also family members who wear contacts have had no issues AFAIK.
Another thing to consider is that we are both mid-40s.. So younger people may not have such a problem with them...

Don't confuse Sonys offering and these "Cardboard" VR headsets.. the PSVRs competition is the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive and will cost £100s.
The Ritech headset is basically a Plastic "Google Cardboard" headset....
I said at the time that this could be the downfall of VR and I hope I am wrong.
What was the previous deal you eluded too?
Cold as poorer field of vision compared to cardboard headset (all of these 'focus' ones tend to have poor FOV) and can be difficult to focus.
The poor FOV (field of virw) makes the VR not as immersive.
This also has slots which let's light in.
Plus points for having a magnet though.
just checked and getting £6.31 my end?
Left a a CS message and no reply after 3 attempts. Left bad feedback on trustpilot and they respond asking for order number, waiting on their response.
Whereas the Tesco geese deals are in virtual reality :stuck_out_tongue:
I purchased these just as an addon/gimmick/boys and their toys but with a Moto G they don't complete the "virtual experience".
Maybe I need to add something to bring the "smaller" screen closer to the viewer...who knows?
I gave them a quick test by trying to watch film on my phone and it was unwatchable due to the screen looking like it was crossing over with each eye, or when changing the position of the lenses it made part of the screen disppear.
Not had chance to try with one of the VR apps yet but so far i'm rather disappointed as i thought it could be used to watch videos etc as well....... unless i'm doing something wrong but i can't see how i am? :man:

And I'm certain HUKD mods will be watching closely or may already know about this user.
I'll give VRPlayer a bash as well cheers Lemmin83
Anyway good luck to those who it works for maybe dependant on screen size of the phone!
Regardless, for £6ish I shouldn't complain, it's a big improvement in comfort and build quality over the cheap cardboard one I bought last year.
I might try and modify it so the screen sits closer to the lenses. Or i might just chuck it in the bin. We'll see..
Thanks
Is it necessary to have a Bluetooth controller too or is it easy enough to use without?
I guess I could add a controller at a later date if wanted to?
And is this still the best buy for a 1st try of VR, or is there a better option at this price point now?
Thanks all!
