That's how I feel about PC gaming when a £250 graphics card is considered hot

Annoyed I didn't bite when this was £15-16 on Black Friday. Had it in my basket, but figured it might be even cheaper by the time I was done with Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3.
Ah well, it's only £49.99 from the PlayStation Store for those looking for an immediate fix

Great game. Story not too clever but exploring the wasteland and kicking butt is brilliant fun

Hey premium components come at a cost. There's a sense of irony in the inferior console games being more expensive than their better PC counterparts.

Cheap..is it a good game?

It's a huge map, open world game not based on the recent movie. A lot of sandy environments (obviously) but the driving and fighting is good fun. Random encounters with enemies, bases and oil refineries to capture and hidden items to search for. You can build up new cars with extra weapons and armour as well as strengthen your character.
If you've played shadow of Mordor then its very similar but with vehicles.
I'm about 50% through it after 20+ hours of play.

Which part, the fact that pc games are cheaper than the inferior console versions or the fact that you pay for what you get with components?

The whole argument that PC games are better than consoles, pound for pound.
I used to be a PC gamer. I'd pay x amount of money for a top spec PC that, within 6 months, would struggle to run new games at top spec. So I'd invest money on new this and new that to bring it to top spec again, only for the same thing to happen in 6 months time.
I could now spend £250 for a current gen console and know that for the next 10+ years, it will run the games created for it. The games themselves are getting cheaper, admittedly slowly, but Bargains can be had if you shop around. On top of that, the X1 is region free and has gamesharing, making the games even cheaper.
I'll challenge any PC gamer to purchase a PC today, regardless of cost and then be able to run new games on it in 10 years time.
For example:
The Division
PC £23.99 X1 £27.50
Only £3.50 more on X1 but its guaranteed to run on 100% of X1 consoles. Guaranteed to run on my 2 year old X1.
What sort of money would you need to spend for it to run up to spec on a PC that's 2 years old?

Simple answer to your question is you lower the graphics settings to run the game optimally, it's fundamentally what developers do to get the console games running at a playable level. The PS4 or Xbox One will not be in production in ten years time. The last generation of consoles were around 6-8 years and the latest gen have been out for two now. On that basis we're looking at approximately 5-6 years for companies to continue making games for them. As most gaming PC's have similar or more powerful graphics cards than the ones in the current consoles they will be able to run the latest games in 5-6 years time, why? Because 1 the games will be ports from consoles using similar tech and 2 you just adjust video settings to run at your preferred setting.
I recently sold a four year old gaming pc to upgrade to a new 4K rig. It contained a GTX 780 and displayed Call of Duty Advanced Warfare at 4K with all settings maxed at a smooth 50-60 fps. This was a four year old machine playing a one year old game and it passed with flying colours. Tech doesn't just become defunct because it's a year or two old.
PC gaming offers a level of flexibility and quality that can not be achieved on a games console. Sure it costs more money to build a high end rig capable of running the newest games at 4K, but there are people with disposable income that are happy to pay for it.

Exactly. You have to lower your PC settings to get a game to run so you're pretty graphics and AA features no longer exist, making the console game look and play superior. Alternatively, you upgrade your PC for the price of a console with new graphics cards etc to keep up.
The Xbox 360 was launched in Nov 2005 making it 10+ years old and developers are still supporting it with new games so my argument for 10+ years still exists.
PC gaming is only ever going to be superior if you constantly invest a small fortune into upgrades making it more expensive than console gaming.
How much did your 4 year old PC cost you in total to run a game that's now 15 months old and how much did your new rig cost you that you replaced it with? How long will this one last until it needs upgrading?

In PC terms, the Xbox One has a GPU that's similar to the entry-level Bonaire GPU in the older Radeon HD 7790, while the PS4 is outfitted with the midrange Pitcairn that can be found in the HD 7870. A comparable GPU would be an NVidia GTX 580, 660, 660 Ti. So unless drivers are no longer supported a PC fitted with a GPU such as an Nvidia GTX 780 or 980 would NEVER look visually worse than the graphics output through an Xbox One or PS4.
