Thanks for completely ignoring my previous point Haha. How is it copyright infringement if it's in the terms that you can use it on 2 consoles?
grilli

Because your buying the license to use on 2 consoles, literally halving the price

Calling the shipping, plastic boxes and discs of physical games a load of nonsense, yet digital games are more expensive at launch despite the companies saving a ton of money on all those things you claim as "nonsense". Yep keep clamouring for the digital future....
silvercondor
21 Feb 16 #42
Christ, I can't believe I'm biting again :smirk:

These terms you're throwing around are wholly inaccurate. I'm not stealing anything, and I'm not making a copy of anything to give to anyone else. I'm giving Sony (and, indirectly, the publishers) money in exchange for a license to download a game. At worst, I'm guilty of violating terms and conditions, but no "crime" is being committed or Sony would've clamped down long ago.

Do you seriously think they're unaware that this goes on? They could've locked down the PS4 the way they do the Vita (changing regions is a nightmare) and - for example - only allowed people to switch regions X times in a given period. But nope; you're specifically allowed to have several accounts from different regions all on the one primary console. And I'm merely speculating here, but the only way I see this changing is if some third party forces Sony to make changes, but it's such a non-issue (other than with people on forums who don't like digital content because they can't sell it) that I doubt that'll be anytime soon.

I can understand if you'd rather not answer this in a public forum, but have you ever used a torrent to download anything? We've already established that you're not a "thief" (supposedly; you're on the other side of "the line"), so I'm guessing the answer is an emphatic no.

I'm a jewellery thief now, too *palms forehead*. To be honest, I do think there's something quite immoral about the used games market, and not just in terms of the stores who rip desperate people off for profit. Where's the skill in giving someone £X for a used product and selling it to someone else for £X+Y? Any morally bankrupt idiot with a modicum of business sense could take advantage of that model. But it's a ridiculous practice, and one that I refuse to support; I don't sell games, and I don't buy them second-hand.

A game is something that's consumable, in the sense of "experiencing" the content - if you like. But you're left with a physical copy of that product, and you can then sell that to someone else, thus depriving the publisher/developers of the money *they* should be getting from the buyer. Why should you effectively get a (partial) refund for something you've just enjoyed?

Obviously Microsoft initially made moves to stop this with the Xbox One and later backtracked, but I - for one - will be happy when the physical format dies the death it so rightly deserves. Shipping? Plastic boxes? Discs? Load of nonsense.

And no, games aren't the same as TVs, cars or jewellery, since those things aren't consumable in the same way. You don't drive a car and think, 'Well, I've seen everything this has to offer. Better sell it and get my money back.'

Bait, cast, bite, landed.

To be fair, it IS copyright infringement in the same was copying a DVD and giving it to a mate is, we all break silly rules but I personally draw the line at theft. I'm no moral benchmark though, if you feel theft is on the just side of the line then so be it.. live by a code you can be happy with. But don't get upset if people call you out for breaking the law.

Regarding point 3, I didn't say anything about trading in games, whats wrong with that? I do that all the time, thats how an economy works, are you suggesting that it's OK to steal video games if you can't afford to buy them? Does that work for cars, TVs, jewelry to?
silvercondor
21 Feb 16 #40
Identifying the best prices for brand new games and digital content. I've no interest in second hand games, selling games I've finished, or deal blocking: buying bundles of stuff purely to take to CEX to make £1.

You're almost certainly trolling here, but **** it, I'll bite.

1. Presumably, being of high moral fibre, you invariably wait for the green man before crossing the road, and have never driven above the speed limit?

2. Copyright infringement, haha! Just to be clear, we're not trying to release our own unofficial Uncharted game here.

3. (Since the gloves are off...) Sorry, you think the people who need to scrounge money together to afford games (i.e. by trading old games in to a company that goes on to sell them for profit) are the *higher* class?
silvercondor
21 Feb 16 #36
So your solitary example is a 2-hour demo that was free to begin with? You're not exactly whipping the jury into a frenzy here.

mscAUser
21 Feb 16 1 #28
Some of us don't like to get involved in copyright infringement on account of it being against the law, although one you will almost certainly never be prosecuted for. Guess it's a moral thing, video game piracy is common but like high seas piracy, tends to attract a lower class of person.
grilli
21 Feb 16 #27
Account sharing makes this half the price again, show me a disc based version for half this price. As for PT, yes it was taken off the psn, that's not to say those that kept the download on their system can't still play it nor does it actually mean you can't still download it by other means.
hass123
20 Feb 16 #26
I would have responded in a reasonable manner (eg pointed out how most of the time physical is cheaper especially at launch despite the manufacture, packaging and logistical costs to retailers etc) but ok we have spending choices (including the "it's not physical because they need more money for their next game purchase with a trade in?"), to each their own.
BuzzDuraband
20 Feb 16 #25
Although you have a point to those who it matters to. For digital gamers, it's irrelevant. I have purchased more than a few games digitally. Wii U, 3DS, PS3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4. Sometimes there are bad apples. But that's par for the course. It doesn't deter me from purchasing my next title from the PSN Store. It's about time that people started to appreciate there is a market for physical and digital media. Not only is this lowest price for a digital copy of this game. It's the lower than a physical copy has been too.

It's pointless trying to preach that physical has it's positives, because for anybody that is interested in digital media. They honestly could not care less.
hass123
20 Feb 16 #24
buying digital there is a risk of realising that a game is broken (happened many times the past two generations mainly from AAA devs) and no way of getting your money back not even by flogging on eBay or trade ins, although there are now recently moves to try to rectify this (such as the steam refund system (but thats only a few hours time limit once the game is started) etc). You may think by buying digital the game is "yours" but in essence you are buying the licence to play the game then download the "content" of the game. Remember what happened to "PT"? A very popular horror 2 hour " demo" which due to the kojima-konami fiasco although it was on players download lists on psn the access to download was blocked. Can happen to any digital game. That is a digital future and only when physical disc form is blocked would I quit console gaming.
BuzzDuraband
20 Feb 16 1 #23
Seems like somewhat of a shallow and flawed argument. It's not about not being bothered to get off our 'backsides' and changing discs on a console. But I recently moved the majority of my catalogue to digital content. I will choose digital content over physical when I can as a priority.

Can I be shallow now and ignite the argument that most people are going to moan it's not physical because they need more money for their next game purchase with a trade in?

Some people prefer the convenience of a disc based collection. Others like myself think the pros of digital downloads outweigh the cons. For those like myself, this is a good deal. For those who like physical copies, the deals floating around for about £20 are also still a good deal for a great set of games. Courses for horses and all that.

Considering it's a saving of around £3-4 and has zero resale value, it's 'jumping through hoops' imo.
Uridium
20 Feb 16 2 #18
Not really a lot of hoops and once you have the account setup you can take advantage of other price reductions when they pop up.
You can also play remotely on Vita and PS TV without worrying about disc swapping etc..:-)

I've just set up a Canadian account to take advantage of some of their flash sales. In order to play on my UK account, I had to set the Canadian one to be the primary account. What happens if you have both US and Can accounts, presumably they both can't be primary?
BuzzDuraband to Magoo_222
