Amazon seller "Profer EU" are applying a £5.99 discount to your basket at checkout essentially making most of their smartphone cases free as many of them only cost £5.99. Delivery is also free if you are a Prime user.
Its very rare you get something totally free and this time its even something useful!
No indication of how long this deal will last or whether it is just a mistake.
Lets say 1000 are ordered. Fullfilment fee will be roughly £1.60+vat per item.
Seller will wake up to £1600+vat fullfilment fee with no earnings coming in to cover it.
If thats not bad enough has probably lost their full inventory.
Seems like nothing to a big company but will be devastating to a small retailer starting up.
But as long as everyone got a bargain.

This whole episode might have ruined someone. Probably seller going to lose their house, family homeless on the streets. But that's quite clearly a risk people are happy to take. What an awful thing if it's true. And everyone that "bought" will be haunted by guilt whenever they look at their phone. Strange thing with this... the discount is STILL on.... the only ones available are with paying delivery... OR ADD ON ITEMS!!! The add on items can be purchased with a pre order item... such as a computer game or DVD coming out in a month or so... choose next day delivery or expedited... the discount is applied for the phone case... don't worry about the price of the game or DVD... this is charged when dispatched, not when ordered... so, once the phone case has been dispatched just cancel the game or DVD... this gets around the minimum charge for orders... repeat as needed ;-)

Bit over dramatic - can you verify points 1, 2 and 3? How do you know?
Everything else - sorry to be blunt but if one cant handle being in business emotionally then get a 9 to 5, business is not for the faint hearted, there is always worries and threats of either losing stock or competing for business and numerous other emotionally draining possibilities. You go in with the risks and if you then go and top yourself and take other poor souls with you because you couldn't handle it, then im afraid your a bloomin coward and one that would have been best suited stacking shelves at Tesco's - which I might add is an attractive job, no worries, hassle or sleepless nights.
This is a bargain site, dont come flaming people on here because they picked up a tenner someone dropped on the floor, flame the idiot that dropped it, or perhaps he/she is a real businessman/woman and writes it off as part of being in the game (if theres any loss that is).
On top of that you cant verify that this was not intentional i.e. clearing shelf space, business gone under and Amazon getting rid of stock, either way, tough, dont come judging on here. If the seller came on here then that would be a different story but your making a lot of assumptions here and having a go based on them.

Capitalism has a predatory aspect parts which are quite distasteful. I used to love the program storage hunters but then I started to feel bad thinking about the previous owners of the stuff who had probably died or gone broke their dreams unfulfilled and their treasured possessions and life's work being bartered over like dogs fighting for a bone.

I am not bothered about moralising on this, I think some people get a little bit worked up about things that don't really have anything to do with their lives.
What I will say is that I've been very impressed with the quality of my free phone case, whether it's freeness was intentional or not.
The very least I could do was leave a 5 star review on Amazon, as it is much better than the £4 case I bought last week. I'd never heard of Profer before, but will definitely consider them for future phone cases.

I didnt say I did. Where have I said "oh my goodness, the sky is falling, people are jumping from buildings" I simply said it can easily ruin a persons business and sadly sometimes when businesses fail or go under some people cant take it and resort to suicide.
Does that not happen?
There's a few points that we all know are true though.
1 - This was a mistake.
2 - This will cost the seller.
3 - Amazon will not help out the seller.
4 - People took the **** an ordered knowing it was a mistake.
5 - The only person that loses out is the seller for a simple mistake.
6 - If the shoe was on the other foot people like you would feel differently.
7 - People lowered themselves for the sake of a free phone cover which is pathetic.
Although ive known of many guys top themselves when a business has failed, I remember reading a few years ago of a guy that his business went under and it sent him over the edge he killed his wife his children and himself. Now obviously this wont always happen and is probably very rare but its possible.
It would take a lot more than a free phone cover for me to help ruin someones business thats all I'm saying

My oh my. You lot can start an argument on anything! Maybe it's just my inexperience with Amazon, but if the seller is offering a £5.99 discount, and he knows he has items under £5.99, surely this is a move he's purposefully made? Either to get rid of stock or drum up business?
Why does everyone get so pumped up?

8 Feb 16#108
Indeed, the marginal cost of each of these is a few pence, with quite a markup to cover expenses and make a profit. Moreover, the organisation doing the selling is, according to Amazon, Lainyungang Jialai Maoyi Co. Ltd., i.e. a limited company, so in the worst case the company goes bust and Amazon are left out of pocket on their fees. This'll be an annoying lesson for someone, not a life changing event, and no one is going to lose the shirt of their back over it. As usual on HUKD we have naked greed on one extreme and naked holier-than-thou moralising on the other!

People are jumping to conclusions, where's the proof that this seller has made a 'mistake' and is now facing the prospect that his business 'ruined'.
Some sellers do this to clear stock, especially if they are based some distance away and don't want to pay more storage fees if they are planning to bring newer stock in.
The reason there are no more prime option for deliveries, is because they have sold all the UK stock (Amazon) and now has to use stock from elsewhere, hence all add on items and £4 p+p items.
Only 135 on their rating, who says EU Profer is the only seller account, this guy might have 10, 20 or more seller accounts.
If this was a mistake, the seller would have pulled the promotion and Amazon would have already contacted him to any irregular purchases to confirm whether they continue to process the orders.
In my experience, these types of products have a quick turn around and healthy profit margin, due to the ever changing smart phone market.
one_way to alindon
7 Feb 16#97
Id agree apart from this isnt old stock its for new upto date phones.
Amazon do not contact sellers concerning irregular purchases, its down to the seller and if Amazon send out all the items then its tough luck and you still need to pay the amazon fees.
The time in china when posting, was 2am.
callum84
7 Feb 16#96
I can see your point about shifting old stock but not at a loss.
They still have to pay fulfillment fee so does not make sense.
Pretty sure Amazon will have an option to scrap stock without incurring the cost of sending it out to customers for free.
scooby555
7 Feb 161#94
Actually no, I dont feel the same way - Its business, its cut throat, you win, you lose, you make costly mistakes and if you cant handle some lost revenue in business then maybe one shouldn't be self employed, especially if your suicidal about losing some stock!!! Especially in the motor trade where you juggle thousands of pounds, some you win, and some you lose, sometimes you make costly mistakes, all part of the territory.
Business is a risk and you learn from your mistakes, sometimes it costs but you should always go in with "I might lose" attitude, and dont come blaming people on here for someones incompetence - if theres notes lying around on the pavement then people are bound to pick them up, plus the visitors on this site dont know if its Amazons error, or they are just clearing the shelves from leftover stock and applying the promotion.

If they are prime, then it means they are sitting in amazon warehouse.
Chances are they could have gone under or not paid amazon, so amazon want their shelf space back.

They don't seem to be a big business, its fulfilled by amazon so most will be sent until the mistakes noticed.
The only person to lose out is the seller and posting it here probably just ruined them.

If you still want a few... see my last post above.... still many available as "add ons" and if u use the trick i mentioned, you will pay nothing and bypass the 20.00 spending minimum!
Someone organise a bailout! Osborne will save them!
I think the position I've set out is more realistic and real world than your "oh my goodness, the sky is falling, people are jumping from buildings" take on things.
Why does everyone get so pumped up?
Youve no idea how this will affect the seller have you? unless you've spoke to them?
BTW, I spent £0, Delivery speed: Expedited
Amazon do not contact sellers concerning irregular purchases, its down to the seller and if Amazon send out all the items then its tough luck and you still need to pay the amazon fees.
The time in china when posting, was 2am.
They still have to pay fulfillment fee so does not make sense.
Pretty sure Amazon will have an option to scrap stock without incurring the cost of sending it out to customers for free.
They don't need to go to work during this period but check their seller app on their phone surely. I sympathise up until when they get up tomorrow but beyond that they will be their own worst enemy if they never take a glance at their sales.
Nobody doesnt like freebies, but I can say someone are too greedy to order so many.

Point taken about being 2am in China though, perhaps they will have a shock when they wake up.
People can say "yeah whatever bla bla bla" but how many people have killed themselves because their business have gone under? it does happen its happened a lot and even something small like this mistake can screw a business.
You did the right thing
I said I dont care if I could drive 30 miles
You dont need to reply hun really theres no need, I have to reply to you as I imagine no one else does or want to.
Dont bother coming back if you dont need this site as you said just!

I dont think its fair calling people on job seeker allowance Dole Dossers, just shows everyone what a sad pathetic piece of work you are
Enjoy your night love.
I know its easy to sit their not caring on Job Seekers but if you got your money cut because you used crayon instead of black ink to fill out a form youd be the first to cry about it.
You enjoy that Blood Cover though Bro
No its down to the company, Amazon will not do anything. It happens often amazon still get their fees and businesses are ruined.
The damage is already done
Heat just for that
Surely it's Amazons fault though? I'm not sure
Chances are they could have gone under or not paid amazon, so amazon want their shelf space back.
Or the company no longer values their stock & it will cost to much to get returned to China.
At the end of the day, £6 for something that cost them pennies. They prob already made their money.
