Its the cheapest I've seen a Philips shaver in a long while, it's corded and dry use only but could be handy for travel/spare.

Yea I got one like that. I manage to get one shave on it. But if I dont use, and go to use the next day, the battery is dead.
I wonder, with regards to manufactures and everyone who is suppose to be environmentally friendly. Why these manufactures dont make a decent design, where the battery can easily be removed? Should the gov step in? I hope they do!

Don't buy these the cheap Philips philishaves are really noisy and underpowered!
If your going to buy a Philishave go for one at least £50 and above to get the newer more powerful quiter motors and the better quality rechargeable batteries.

Bought that one today not expecting much. I stopped using the expensive RQ9000 because it was absolutly appauling and they replaced the Rq1170 heads with a rubbish cheaper design that was as bad as the 9000 series.
I have used this shave on stubble that was about 5 days old and this went through it no problem. I have a clean shave, better than both the 9000 and RQ11 for 10% of the price. If I hadn't got the last one I would have gone back and bought another for future use. I have no razor burn, the head caught the stubble unlike the other models which let it fall out. Battery life is crap at 8 minutes after 24 hour charging but will leave it plugged in every few goes.

The pop-up trimmer on philips shavers like this is a perfect example of planned obsolescence or something being designed to fail. The stress point is even plastic welded on instead of being part of the mould (which would be cheaper in manufacturing) so that it eventually shears off and you need to buy a new shaver.
I'd go for a nice remington one. The similar assembly is all-metal and after 7 years of regular use, still as good as the day it was made.

For a start, this model is so basic is doesn't even have one so that's a moot point. In any case, I shudder to think what you're doing with your trimmer as I have an HQ6990 I got from Amazon in 2010 and its trimmer is still going strong - the weak point with that one is the battery as its old school NiMH and nearing the end of its life; in theory it could still be replaced by someone with a modicum of soldering skill though.
