Many apologies kapoche, the advice (well I say advice losely as I hope that people seeking medical advice from HUKD double check 1st). It was just something I read in my nursing times that was written by a clinician from the Gdc but your quite right that I should not be offering advice that may not be evidence based practice. Thanks for your correct advice x
but voting hot to encourage (esp youngster) to look after their teeth
Also 'Brush DJ" app is very good

Was about to buy because I hate floss, but a couple of clinical trials suggest it doesn't remove much plaque. Good for blasting bits of food away maybe, but not a substitute for floss.

Please do not Give incorrect advice if you dont have the full facts .
The airfloss is not a substitute for flossing / using te or brushes , it's an additional aid .
The Gdc do not give dental advice for the public they are a regulatory body.

Why do you want to go to see your hygienist every day? She or he is pretty, handsome?

i still use mine i got from amazon around 9 months ago? it is much easier than flossing and cannot recommend highly enough. dentist says did make an improvement. wants me to use normal stuff too but this is so much easier to do which is the main thing to keep the discipline twice a day
pibpob to jameshothothot
20 Feb 16#32
But you're not supposed to floss twice a day, are you? In which case I don't see the point.

20 Feb 161#31
Do the instructions for that basically admit it doesn't do what it claims, too?

Yes probably, as there latest Advanced Molecular Imaging Scanner was a flop and hit the Shareholders hard

Apparently "It should be noted that the Air Flosser instructions specify that it is “not a replacement for flossing”"

20 Feb 161#26
Well we should be asking Philips what the bloody hell the air flosser with added mouthwash area is really for then, could be good to add fairy liquid and maybe jet wash the dishes

These are supposed to be used in conjunction with floss, not in instead of.

Sounds good as every bit of saving is great, just check that the company they made the offer though is still John Lewis (as they sometimes find offers with a different seller) as if not I think the extra £1.05 is worth the additional year guarantee via JL. Good find tho

John Lewis do free returns just incase it does fail, also the GDC seems to prefer the air/water floss to dental floss especially if teeth close together as the force of trying to get the floss tape into the teeth quite often causes the gums to bleed as the patient ends up cutting into the gum line causing the blood vessels to open up and be open to added infection. My frenchie is most upset to have lost his source of flossing fun and he will now have to revert to staring at the babies nappy bin in the hope it will spontaneously open and spew out all the goodies inside lol

20 Feb 16#9
Yep, appreciate there is. But there is also the hassle of returning the thing/getting a replacement if it fails - and they have a fairly high failure rate.
In use, I'd reckon them to be about 70% as effective as normal flossing - particularly if your teeth are very close together (some of mine are so close that even floss gets shredded in the process).
That said, definitely worth trying if you have frenchie with a floss fixation in the house (as per fluffy25 above) or simply cannot get on with flossing.

Sadly cannot recommend as mine lasted just 3 months. I went back to normal flossing afterwards.

I've heard a lot of people saying they have longevity issues which is sad because they really appeal to me. I just have fingers crossed that mine lasts as I am sick of the dog running round the house with bits of used dental floss from bathroom bin hanging out of his French mouth (he's a French bulldog, God dogs can be gros) lol. Only good point is if it does fail you have 2 year guarantee to fall back on
