Mentioned in some other threads but the Archer C7 AC Wireless router is now down to £49.97 in store at PC world / Currys. Lots of stock in the Barcbican Store, London. Currently £88 at amazon.

I'd disagree, the pro stuff has been flawless (PoE switches), Powerline adapters are as stable as any others i've tried, wifi extenders work as advertised. I personally would never have considered them for routers till I was given one. A £30 router has multiple SSID support, QoS, SSID rate limiting and the kind of feature set that i'd normally have to flash a custom firmware to get. They also review very well and get regular updates/fixes unlike some of the bigger names.
I'd intended to drop the money on a Unifi AP and Edgerouter, but other than a reboot to flash the firmware to the latest version it's been flawless.
Brand is TP-Link. Archer is just the model name. I'll avoid this deal. Al of their products are junk.

D5 best router I have had. Dumped a flaky Netgear R7000 (admittedly shouldn't have bought on release ) and saved myself £70.

tp link are solid routers and pl adaptors. is this better than a HM5?

I have the c2, very fast interface, the only bugbear with the c2 is that you have to copy the mac and ip address if you want to make a device permanently have the same ip via the router..

We've also had a D5 since september, replacing the rubbish free one from the ISP.
Had to have the power supply replaced but, the device itself has been fine. No more streaming stuttering or drop-outs while gaming.

Would I need an external modem to replace my BT Home Hub with this? Not sure of HH version but think it's one that's had the modem mode locked down.

If you want it for ADSL then yes. The 'D' series have built in ADSL modems. The 'C' series don't.

Had one of these (on vanilla firmware) for a while, rock solid and reasonably fast.

What's the coverage on these? My VM "superhub" results in so many black spots in my house. Would this improve the range and coverage?

Should do, just put this next to the VM superhub, connect via RJ45 cable and switch the superhub to Modem mode. Then run the Wifi off this.

I bought this full price when I move to Sky Fibre (which has a TURD router) and use it to deal with wifi services.
It has completely transformed the experience and we are NEVER limited by wifi now.
Coverage is excellent and hasn't waivered one bit. Superb.

I've got several bits of TP Link gear. The unmanaged gigabit economy switches are as good as any other, totally robust. My managed switch is a nice piece of kit. The router I had was way more reliable than the Sky junk it replaced and the WiFi was just as quick as my current BT Home Hub even though it didn't do 5GHz. Finally I've got a cheapo 'travel' router that I abused for a DIY project and I only had problems with that when it exceeded 20 simultaneous connections on the WiFi. TP Link aren't the very best, but they are damned good value for money.

How far should it be kept from our desk or bed? Don't want to raise a false alarm, but I already absorb a lot of radiation.

I have a C5, using it with openwrt and it is great!
There might be better stuff out there, but value for money of this is top!

Anyone looking to use this to replace the Sky hub needs to understand that it's a 'dumb' router, it lacks an ADSL/VDSL modem so you'll need an ECI or HG612 to act as modem, you could get away with putting the router in your DMZ at a push. You'll also need to make sure you use the firmware that supports MER (it's not true MER but that's another story) and extract your details from the SR102 using wireshark.

Can this connect to vpn and if so does it support OpenVpn? Many routers offer vpn passthrough but I want one with an inbuilt VPN.

Well....the wifi from the Sky router is utterly terrible.....and sky know about it. There is a new router in the works but for now, you are stuck.
You buy one of these, plug it into your Sky Fibre router.....log in to that and turn off the Sky wifi and use this to connect instead. You will have perfect wifi in your house and realize just how bad the Sky hardware is

Had the Archer C2 until the wife decided we needed the Asus AC-3200. It was so reliable and a great router - the C7 is even better liked. If your cable router is troublesome then as said before turn your (not so) superhub into a modem and attach it to the C7 and enjoy.

Good for you. Myself and friends have bought TP-Link routers, wifi repeaters and powerline adapters and every time they did not work as they should or at all. Other decent brands that cost similar amounts have not given these problems. Buy at your own risk.

Saw this yesterday, I thought about using it as an AP but didn't buy, dragged my old DGND3700 out from the shed. Seems like a good price, gigabit switch, router and AC wireless, what's not to like?

My WI-FI connection upstairs isn't very good so I am currently using GIGABIT switches so I have an ethernet connection upstairs.
Were I to buy this router or similar ones, would I be able to connect the router to the switch upstairs or does it need to be connected directly to the Virgin Media router, which is downstairs?
Also, would I be getting two wifi signals - one from my Virgin Media Superhub and one from this?
