These one's have been opened and checked so should be ok, there have been some reports of one or more of the tape decks failing but this is down to the belt snapping (30 year old rubber) cheap to buy and easy to fix. The other known issue is the lcd clock you will probably need to replace the battery (30 year old battery)

So slip on the tracksuit throw down cardboard turn up the base and show your kids how it was done back in the day!

I also received an international branded one.

Unfortunately it hums like it's a substation powering the whole Street, so it will have to go back.

In terms of the stereo it makes zero difference, just different badges on the same hardware (which itself is a Sharp unit I think).

In terms of brand, I've never heard of International, but I have Maxim.

Mine arrived this morning . International model in a maxim box. Well pleased with it tho!

Mine arrived this morning too, International inside and outside, but overall I'm more impressed with it than I expected. Both tape drives seem to work too!

Little annoyed now cos I spent £39 on the International-branded version. Not that a brand name makes any difference when this is an badge-engineered one anyway, but at least I've seen Maxim before!

Nobody said it was going to sound like a chorus of angels or be as good as B&O in terms of quality, it's £35 of retro fun that will no doubt bring a big smile to the face of anyone who get's one.

I have one with a bluetooth receiver I play my tunes from my tablet and bang them out through this bad boy from anyware in the house, I can also pick it up and take in in the garden and annoy the old lady next door with it and that is good enough for me :wink:

I heard on the radio this week cassettes are having a revival and are at a 20yr high for sales.

I personally would never consider going back to tapes as they were a crap medium imo.

What an awesome find. To have a brand new one of these in 2016....it's the ultimate new retro boombox! Very cool. In one way, technology has moved on so much. Yet in another....it's not really that different at all.

Apparently they all have various faults though, like only 1 tape deck works, or the LCD clock doesnt work, or they make `humming` noises... etc. Maybe they were supposed to be returned to factory but MAXIM just never collected them.
