Every retailer you deal with is a scalper, hence the word re-tailer. They re-sell items they haven't made.Amazon, will buy from a warehouse. They don't make the item. Therefore, Amazon, the biggest retailer in the UK, is a scalper, no one seems to mind. A small seller on the other hand...

Have you ever tried buying stock as a small seller or company? I've sent out 40-50 emails to warehouses, stores and wholesalers asking for stock lists and prices. The majority simply ignore you and a few laugh at you with mocking replies. If wholesalers were actually willing to deal with smaller traders, then we wouldn't need to use commercial sites; but they don't, so it becomes a fight for scraps.

Last point; companies purposefully make limited amounts of items so that the price goes up. E.g. An Xbox Elite controller; gold dust. You really believe Microsoft can't make more of them quicker? They don't because the less there is of an item, the higher its value.

No game bundled? Wow and hyrule warriors isn't even large Zelda title worthy of a limited edition imho. Buy to play not stick in a cabinet or drool over Ebenezer style waiting for the day when you can retire to the Bahamas on your shrewd purchase.

HOT. Don't play Zelda, buts its a nice collectible console. Big fan of the themed consoles.

A Gamecube isn't the most collectible of Nintendo things, unless it's a specific colour or Panasonic Q. But plenty of Nintendo things do indeed rocket in price. They're not going to make you a millionaire, but a profit is a profit.

If that was a Zelda limited console (particularly the purple variant) you would be seeing a considerable return. You only have to check past listings for on ebay to see that these really dont decrease much.

If you are looking for a 3ds to play, maybe this isnt for you. If your looking for a peice of collactable Zelda hardware then this is a must.

I must say though that Nintendo really are taking the p1ss with this though, 4th Zelda 3ds?

Aye, tis a good point. Must have been 2002, not sure exactly when tbh beyond it was early 2000's. It was £50 in Dixons in a sale, it was the Mario Kart Pak version.

Ah, might that have been when Dixons were closing down? As Mario Kart came out at the end of 2003 and Dixons went under in 2004 and I seem to remember getting a really cheap PS2 or Xbox from them when that happened. I got my GameCube in summer 2003 but it was around £200 - and that was preowned from eBay - although that was with about 5 games, including Wind Waker and Metroid Prime which were both holding their value at around £30 each.

I agreed with your post except this last bit, it's not true in this case. MS is the only supplier of the controller, they set the price to maximise profit. It has nothing to do with availability or 'supply' since they have full control over the price (unless a retailer wanted to loss lead, which they might at the margin). MS will simply have chosen a price to maximise their profit, given the cost of production and anticipated demand. if selling it for less, meant the additional sales induced higher net profit, they would. you are getting confused with product differentiation through innovation, to drive increased market price, and collusive behaviour of resellers...

Wow, didn't know this was being released.. Nicer looking than the Majora's Mask one I have. Can count the times I've played on that on one hand. Also didn't know that it's held it's value on eBay so nice to know I'll get my money back if I decide to get rid of it..

Oh dear, not sure how to feel about this. Bought the Majora's mask edition albeit through considerable effort. Don't fancy forking out for this one too, though the niggling temptation is present. Hopefully Nintendo won't over saturate the limited edition niche thereby devaluing their previous offerings.

How does this work with charging? will this still have the uk adapter, or will I have to use another adapter to lower/higher the watts?

As far as I am aware the European 3ds consoles are all the same, the one I bought from Amazon.es charges normally from a UK charger.
This console doesn't come with a charger.

I have preordered this (thanks OP) but as they take the payment at time of dispatch surely what you pay will depend on the exchange rate at that time? I looked into preordering in sterling but it said it had to be dispatched within 14 days to do it that way?

AFAIK that's correct. So the saving on this deal will vary depending on the exchange rate when they take the money. I think it is already a couple of quid worse off.

That said, still cheaper than anywhere in the UK if you don't want a statue or charger.

I preordered when it was posted and it would not let me pay in GBP. I cancelled my preorder yesterday and managed to order again, this time in GBP. It was £167!
I did not complete the order and I decided to get it from Nintendo store UK for 180 with Skull Kid. I will sell him on Ebay and it will work out about the same price, but less risk if something is wrong with the console.

This is what I was getting at above - you could only place the original order in € so the price you pay depends on the exchange rate on the day the money is taken from your card - as the exchange rate has gone down (because of our uncertain future in Europe) it means the console will cost more. You could only pay in sterling within xx days of release date (ie now) when the damage to exchange rate has already been done!
For me, I had a gift voucher offer on .fr buy €50 vouchers get promo €10 free so I ordered the vouchers then used them & the promo code on my preorder, upshot is that I have only €144 left subjected to the exchange rate so I'll hopefully still get a good deal!

Exactly this, the price never went up as salfordgirl implied, it was always 199 EUR, we simply never had a chance to order for £153, this price never existed. Now you can order in £, but due to exchange rate its £167. There is a chance that exchange rate might be favourable on the day the card gets charged by Amazon (close to the shipping date), but I would not count on it.
For me it makes more sense to use Nintendo store (£179.99 with charger and Skull Kid), less hassle with return if something goes wrong and 2 years extended warranty on hardware.

Yeah, I ended up cancelling my Amazon France order and going with Nintendo too. Last time I checked the Amazon currency converter was working out at ~£165, which is a half decent saving but not as good as getting the charger, skull kid figure and 2yr warranty for £15 extra.

Just got mine from rakuten today with 20x points boss deals. I notice amazon france is doing the fire emblem one as well now. Not taking anything away, this was the best deal when the pound was strong for sure.

Seen as though unboxing videos of the console were released, I'm confused why the the release date on amazon is 20th of may? Was the EU release date of fire emblem fates pushed way back compared to US releases?
