Interesting - base value of 1 Nectar point is 0.5p

You could see how you maybe better off splitting your grocery or petrol shopping into £10 transactions e.g. it's effectively a 20x points earn per £ spend, maybe more if you get more than the 200 points bonus

Who cares? A bit of savvy shopping is what this country needs.

I'll be splitting my shop into rough tenners for some voucher action and then splitting it again when it comes to redeeming them, no qualms.

Agreed !

But reminds me of when I would buy £1 of petrol every day (1980's) in order to get a token. 6 tokens gave you a dinner plate, 6 for a cup and saucer etc. We had just bought our first house, so were busy getting things sorted. Why spend £20 and get a token, when the minimum £1 also gave the same token. Every week we got a new plate or whatever !

Sorry, I don't need any help identifying the problem! The problem was the self service tills in many stores did not issue these. I spoke to staff about it. I was helping others by explaining this.

What is the best way to get the points put on your card? Can you do one shop and scan all the multiple coupons at the same time or are there restrictions (i.e. one coupon added per transaction)?

Got a feeling they might realise that people are getting a pretty decent amount of points and either not run the offer again or change it to something like only one voucher per nectar card
jnigel26
7 Feb 16 #149
NEVER go through self service tills if you want an offer or voucher (decent one). All the decent stuff goes through the proper tills.
PLEASE PLEASE Nectar Sainsburys do this offer again - all those canny shoppers (like me) can then smile.
We've ended up with just under 80 quids worth of Nectar point (me and the wife) for a spend of 120 quid.
Just sort your shopping out into batches of 10 quid, or just over. It's a pain going through the tills several times, but who wouldn't with such good odds (or were we just lucky?)
ROLL ON THE NEXT TIME. Or will they realise they've given too much away?
Casnewydd to jnigel26

I went through the self service tills 3 times today and had a voucher each time, so maybe store specific or simply yours were out of paper/ink? CS should sort you out though if you popped over to see them.

Eh? I always get plenty of till spits on a normal visit, and this weekend I basically got more than half the value of my shopping back in bonus points. I ALWAYS use the self service (green lights on the printers obv...).

edit: Tesco on the other hand - you only ever get vouchers from the actual manned checkouts.

Only got 2 200s and a 500 but then I was surprised to get the 500 as my Nectar points are negative!! Spent £15 worth one Saturday before Christmas and swiped a few bonus point vouchers. Then in the afternoon went to Argos and handed my nectar card over thinking it would have at least £5 on it and got £15 knocked off. Turns out that nectar records at tills are only updated every 3 days so with these 200 / 500 point vouchers around -800 points!

This must of cost sainsburys millions of pounds in points?
carltonbp to GreatestThing

But they reduced the amount of points you get last year so these are probably what they saved.

I honestly couldn't say as I didn't try to use 2 at once. I don't usually shop at Sainsburys, other than for fuel, so using them in store isn't as convenient for me. I was hoping to use the voucher at the petrol kiosk without having to purchase anything other than fuel.
To be fair, the terms state for use in store, but they don't state that this excludes the petrol kiosks.
Hammer2006

This morning I purchased £10 worth of fuel and received a 250 points voucher. I thought I'd test this out by putting in another £10 worth of fuel and then going back to the kiosk to collect my 250 points plus another voucher.
Unfortunately the system wouldn't allow me to add my initial 250 points when paying for my 2nd £10 worth of fuel, so it may be that these vouchers can only be redeemed in store or with the purchase of non-fuel items. I could be wrong, and it could be that I tried to apply the voucher too soon (within 5 minutes of receiving it), but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

Second visit to the kiosk netted me 500 bonus points, and the cashier applied my first 250 bonus points manually as a gesture of goodwill, so it's not all doom and gloom

The bonus points earned from using all of the vouchers can take up to 28 days to appear on your Nectar account
In the past when I've been missing points I've always found that sending an email to Nectar's customer services is promptly replied and the missing points added

I had to chase them over a similar issue. Used online chat, uploaded a photo of my points confirmation printout and they added the points immediately. But if I had continued to wait I would never have received them.

Sainsburys/Nectar is HARD WORK!

I've come to the conclusion that idiots with no concept of the real world & how how people acquire/redeem retail points devise these schemes.

Why sad,not against law to pay separately??
Will also be paying in blocks of £10 next week @Sainsburys.
Also good for Sainsburys coz the whole point of the promo is to encourage customers to spend more.

True, but once the Tesco points are converted to vouchers and they send them to you,the vouchers last for I think 2 years.
Still think Tesco points are better value IMO.

True, but nectar points as been reduced from 2 points to 1 point per £1 spent with nectar card.
Have a John Lewis card,which gives 1 point per £1 spent @John Lewis/Waitrose and 1 point for £2 spent elsewhere.

Is this offer limited to one per nectar holder ?
Or can u receive a new points ticket as many times as you spend £10?

There is a clue is in the deal detail
Chanchi32
25 Jan 16 8 #2
Interesting - base value of 1 Nectar point is 0.5p

You could see how you maybe better off splitting your grocery or petrol shopping into £10 transactions e.g. it's effectively a 20x points earn per £ spend, maybe more if you get more than the 200 points bonus

Heat added

If it's the difference between this deal being offered or not then it doesn't bother me too much. I imagine they are expecting/hoping a certain percentage of points are never claimed.

26 Jan 16 2 #46

There are more bonus points offers available though (this deal, 10x on fuel etc). As a relatively low grocery spender I've got far more points in the last year than in previous years.

If you have a Sainsburys bank credit card, you still get the 2 nectar points per pound spent if you pay with that card.

The main difference is Tesco points expire, Nectar does not..
jnigel26
26 Jan 16 #42
I am lucky in that we visit all supermarkets, we have them all here - Asda opposite Morri's and Aldi is fun! Anyway, Nectar points I like. Had a offer last week, spend anything at BP and get 250 Nec points. I was just passing on way home last night and saw their unleaded is 99.7 (same as Asda) so thought I'd fill up as I was low. Then 'ding', just remembered the Nectar offer, so stopped filling at 20 quid to see if there was a spend limit. Just to see if I get that 250 Nectar points. Yep, got 270 points (250 + 20 for the fuel). I'd have just bought a crunchie bar or something if I'd thought about it.
That's the only problem with vouchers, offers, nectar, Tesco clubcard etc is remembering it all!

PS
Just checked my nectar balance and yep, it's 270 points down. Won't be added until end of Feb. :disappointed:
barstewards! Still, at least I didn't forget this one, I (like most) usually do.
johnsmith1997

"The promotional period is 00:01am on 12th February to 23:59pm on 14th February 2015.
To enter the promotion, simply meet the qualifying conditions by spending £20 or more, excluding items listed in Term 5, in one transaction at Sainsbury's Supermarkets and Petrol Stations, or Sainsbury's Online Groceries for delivery between 12th-14th February 2015 and swipe your Nectar card instore or enter your Nectar card details online. Centrals and locals are excluded from the promotion."

Heat added.
I believe last years promo was £20 spend,so this year seems a much better deal.
Will save my shopping till next week @big Sainsburys.
johnsmith1997
26 Jan 16 #40
Tesco 1 point = 1p or x4 with Clubcard Boost.
Sainsburys 1 point = 0.5p,since they reduced the points given.
So basically,Tescos seem better value, unless you need to go to Sainsburys for something.
Or just go Aldi/Lidl which is generally cheaper anyway.
EveshamLad
26 Jan 16 #39
I don't go to Sainsburys that often (as there isn't one in Evesham, nearest being in Worcester I believe), but when I do go I usually get a voucher, or 3!

Last visted on Sunday and got just the one voucher - £18 off a £60 online shop. Went straight in the bin as we don't use Sainsburys home delivery ... but that is presumably why we got the otherwise generous voucher.
harry66
26 Jan 16 #38
Yeah - dont get me started on that one. There was no possible explanation for halving the value except to confuse people - "wow look 500 points!!" - that sounds so much better then 250 points....It's all retailing trickery.
I much prefer Tesco's but the missus finds the Tesco overcrowded and too busy for her liking - except when they send us the £10 off vouchers - when she makes an exception
johnsmith1997
26 Jan 16 #37
They used to give out 2 nectar points for every £1 spent. That is now reduced to 1 point,so basically you get half of wok you used to get.:disappointed:
joedastudd
26 Jan 16 #36
So if you split it up into £10 segments you get at least 10% back in points?
Sounds like a cracking deal
harry66
26 Jan 16 1 #35
Because Sainsburys are disingenious with stupid Marketing/Loyalty team who come up with daft ideas to entice you into the store, but then hope you forget to take advantage of the voucher you earned on your previous visit.
So many times, the silly machine spits out loads of vouchers, which you then have to keep hold of and remember to use in the next 1-2 weeks. And dozey here has either forgotten to bring them in or hand them over....
The worst is when they give you threshold spend points with the threshold set at least £20-£30 more than your average weekly shop. Seriously, do they really think people are going to spend £30 to get an extra 600 points worth £3, or worse - double points! Woohoo!!
Most of them are a waste of paper and trees!
I prefer Tesco voucher booklets they send in the post with quite reasonable discounts on items you regularly purchase. Or even better, those 'Spend £70 and get £10 off' vouchers - brilliant!!
ian18
26 Jan 16 #26
Not sure why so many fuel stations are excluded.

I guess you can use pay at pump and spend £10 on fuel, then repeat until full. Doesn't say pay at pump is excluded. But do pumps give coupons?
nicster08 to ian18
26 Jan 16 #28
It would be because those petrol stations don't have the coupon printer, and no, you wouldn't get the vouchers if you used pay at pump.

Sounds a little over complicated. Why can't they just add the points to your card there and then?
BenderRodriguez

"If". If you spend all that on a lottery tickets instead of shopping you could win millions, now that's a deal isn't it?
Mentos
26 Jan 16 #27
Thats generally what we do with the brand match refunds as otherwise they expire :/

The confectionary kiosk is by the exit at most places, so the Mrs grabs some Gum (which she'd buy eventually anyway) or if its a bigger refund we grab some other non perishable item we'd eventually buy anyway.

In this case since you know you're definitely getting a voucher, just leave out an item of your shop near the kiosk and grab it on the way out to cash the voucher.
Cakeboy79
26 Jan 16 #25
I got stung with this before Christmas as I used a load of Nectar points I'd been saving up on my last spend of £70 and they wouldn't add the bonus points on as I'd used Nectar points for some of the £70 spend

The 1000 ,2000 & 5000 point prizes are limited numbers, unlike the 500 & 200 ones. The average will reduce if prizes exceed the stated numbers, over about 3.2m prizes and average starts falling toward 300 points.

To enter please email [email protected] by 23:59 on 7 February 2016 with your contact details and Nectar card number, and a coupon will be allocated to you and Nectar points added to your account within 28 days of the promotion ending. Notification of points prize will be via email. Only one no purchase necessary route per Northern Ireland customer.

I'm pretty sure it will mean:

1. Spend £10 on anything and get given a Nectar voucher for x points between 5-7 Feb. Repeat as many times as you like.

Then EITHER

2: Any date between 5-21 February, don't spend anything, and scan and hand in voucher and scan your Nectar card and receive x points.

OR:

3: Any date between 5-21 February, Spend £1 on anything and scan and hand in voucher and scan your Nectar card and receive x points.

Don't forget this is NOT at ANY local or central stores. Only "traditional" supermarkets.

So can be used for petrol as well is that right?
mobiletech
25 Jan 16 1 #5
This is a bit strange, seems like the vouchers don't go onto your nectar card but must be redeemed in store as cash against purchases. surely it would of been easier if the vouchers were just generated in money value rather than a number of nectar points?
notos to mobiletech
25 Jan 16 #6
They want you to revisit the store to spend your voucher. I'd imagine there would be a limit of 1 voucher used at a time so you see how it you may have to make multiple revisits if you've accumulated several.
davidian84 to mobiletech
25 Jan 16 1 #8
sometimes nectar printer spits out 80 points coupon, which you can then buy anything and scan the voucher and it adds nectar points to account. I assumed it will work like that
