You're on this website for so many years and you know how everything works - so why on earth you even try with this kind of deal going through normal checkouts? Thanks to people like you, they are alerted earlier and less people might benefit from this... :disappointed:

You are a devious lot of unscrupulous opportunist devils, and it's no wonder a lot of our businesses are heading for bankruptcy. I say this with the righteous indignation of someone who is not in close proximity to a branch of Morrisons....some might call it jealousy....Good luck to all who got lucky, I'd have been there in a flash...

I did notice that mine scanned as- £9.15, then took £6.15 off, if that helps? I don't care, as I'm made up with this deal  did dash into Morrisons without checking I had a bag for life in handbag, and, seeing as I'd already clicked ' I don't need a bag', didn't want to bring assistant over to change it, and draw attention, so ( after paying my £3 each), shoved 2 into handbag, nonchalantly strolled out with the third under my arm  did not look around to see any funny looks, ha

I agree, not over salty at all, just perfect. This ( brilliant) glitch aside, gammon joint is amazing value, and something I'd not bought for years. Will probably carry on buying it from time to time now.

Gammon is always too salty. It needs to be boiled first to get rid of the salt

That's not quite true, the checkout girl doesn't confirm the price of each item as they are scanned to see if you want it or not.
If the store makes the offer to sell you an item at for example £1.00 on the Shelf label and on the product but then scans it at the till and you pay £1.01. This goes against the

"The Price Marking Order 2004 (PMO 2004) covers products, not services, and is limited to
sales between retailers and consumers. It requires the selling price, and where appropriate
the unit price, of products to be clearly displayed. The Order gives effect to Directive 98/6/EC
of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 February 1998 on consumer protection
in the indication of the prices of products offered to consumers. "

If it is only one item you are buying, you would most probably pick up the mistake before you pay but if you have 20 or 30 items, it is more likely you would pick the mistake up after you had paid and been given a receipt for your payment. This is when action can be taken against the trader for giving a misleading
price indication. In the case of Morrison I believe they will refund you the overcharge. Tesco however still have a policy of double the difference.(which is beyond the requirements of the law) :man:

£3 is the offer price so if you got it at that it IS working. If you didn't then what do you mean?
watson44 to hearts
23 Feb 16 #194
the £3 per kilo is stated on the packs, a gammon weighing 2.929kg should have been £8.78, but the "glitch" was that the tills didn't account for the weight, and processed them as a single item, so a discount of £5.78 was incorrectly given making the price per kilo £1.27

Not at all because they aren't offering to sell it at that price. If it scans at the till at a higher price and they ask you to pay that higher price that is a counter offer which you either accept by paying or decline by not paying

But what if the baby jesus was looking at you though the self-checkout screen and you could see him crying and that little receipt that popped out was wet with his tears - would you have still bought it then?

This quandry is made more difficult by the fact that the baby jesus is hungry and the only thing that will bring him fortitude is a lovely boiled bacon sandwich in the holy white-bread with a little bit of the red sauce. What do you do, brother? Is a sin against one the salvation of the other? And what if that holy white bread were reduced to 9p by the lady with her orange stickers of temptation - would you be rewarded for your shrewdness or scorned for being like the sniffling blind mole-men that scuttle between reduced-section to reduced-section trying to find sparks amongst their dispair?

I might be overthinking it - I'm not sure. Je suis drunk.

When a retailer puts an item on the shelf with a price on it, this does not constitute an offer to sell (legally, its called an 'invitation to treat'). In fact, a shop doesn't have to sell you anything if they don't wish to, even if its on the shelf with a price. They can change their mind. They can't refuse to serve on discriminatory grounds of course, that would be illegal for other reasons, but for any goods-related reason they can. This is how it works; you pick an item off the shelf and take it the check out, and you are asked for some money. You offer the money - this is the offer to buy, and its the offer part of making a contract. If the cashier takes your money, that is the acceptance part and the contract has been made.

Are the barcodes on other successful purchasers joints the same as the OPs?
Rich44 to knack
22 Feb 16 #72
No they're variable price bar codes which contain a PLU and the price e/weight & a check digit I suspect someone at HO has entered these as £3 each rather than £3/kg meaning the weight/price us ignored as the PLU is treated as a fixed £3

As long as it has the £3/kg sticker on it you're safe

22 Feb 16 #56
don't bother with Morrisons Sheffield Parkway they have some in stock and they scan as £1.5 per kg, but the staff knows about the glitch and will not sell it for that price. :disappointed: perhaps i should have gone through the selfcheckout.

It works on normal £3.75 priced gammon too.

All the barcodes are different as mentioned

You're on this website for so many years and you know how everything works - so why on earth you even try with this kind of deal going through normal checkouts? Thanks to people like you, they are alerted earlier and less people might benefit from this... :disappointed:

Don't ever bin frozen food, look for a willing animal or two & portion it for small cook offs, added fuel for winter months, training treats, if it has been kept in a decent freezer super cold, & hasn't got freezer burn then it'll be fine for something.

(I found some sprats from tesco I'd bagged up 3 yrs ago & cooked em off for our dogs ..fine, no probs, I am about to tackle a gammon from 3 yrs back (space making) it's fine, it's a good freezer. .no apprant problems with burn, wrapper intact.

22 Feb 16 2 #51
I think I've worked out the numbers thing on the receipt. Multiply the entry in the Price column on the receipt by the weight of the joint and the total comes to £3.75 each time. I believe this is the price per kilo of gammon joints on the Morrisons website. The numbers will be different every time depending on the actual weight of each joint.
deb8z
22 Feb 16 #50
Yes I've got plenty of room  we still have Gammon here from a Tesco glitch that needs binning it's been in there that long, when OH was cooking it the smell of it made me feel sick

Now then anyone got a A++ freezer deal to store it all in (thanks HUKD you are in part why we run 3 freezers)

...(deals for our consumption & for sharing hukd "spoils" with others) ...remember that corn fed chicken deal (tesco's) from a few years back ...that became the bane of our life  ...asking "do you have room in your freezer yet to forgetful old dears ..oh man

22 Feb 16 #14
Hmm it can't be because their joint weighed 2.74kg, so @ £1.37kg that would work out @ £3.75.

Where as they paid £3.00 for 2.74kg which equates to £1.09kg.. so not sure why the £1.37 shows up on receipt.
