This is my first post so be gentle...
I've been looking for a Medela breast pump and I had this one first time around but paid £80 for it! Just found this bargain on Amazon.

Why not wait till the babies born and see how things go? There's no need for a pump if breastfeeding goes well and the baby is well. Spend the money on something nice for yourself instead.

Second that. I am breastfeeding my first baby at the moment. We bought a manual pump for just in case scenario...used it a handful of times when needed to relieve myself with too full breasts. So the use will depend on your preferences and priorities. Hubby bonds with the baby by doing skin to skin at times. He loves it.
Congratulations and all the best for a new journey as a parent

Thank you Duckmuffin and Squizzawizza.
Is a breast pump something I should buy BEFORE my baby is born or will it be a big waste of money if I'm not able to breastfeed for whatever reason? Not many of my friends have babies, the only one that breastfed beyond a couple of weeks didn't express at all.

It's really a personal preference I guess. I used it from day 1 and found it helped increase my milk supply. I did also express so that my partner could feed from time to time so that he could bond with out son too. It was nice for them to have that.
Maybe if you can get hold of a cheap manual one first in one of the baby events (like Asda) to see how you get on and then if you find that you have the use for an electric one, you can then go on to invest perhaps?

It isn't according to reviews but as duckmuffin said, it depends on how often you will use it and also how much you want to spend.
This lasted me 6 months first time around using it 2-3 times a day initially. I then passed it onto my step-sister who went on to use it for another 6 months. I have read reviews where people have said motors have worn out but my step-sister and I were fortunate this didn't happen during our time of using it.
Hope this helps.

This one does do the job but is intended for occasional use and whereas the Swing can withstand being used several times a day, every day. I have owned both and on this one the motor does wear out if you put it under the kind of heavy usage that someone who predominantly expresses milk might. It is also very noisy in comparison to the swing. However, if it's just for occasional expressing when you're going to be away from the baby then it does the job well.

Is this as good as the "swing" one that everyone goes on about? Great price  expecting my first baby, hoping to be able to breastfeed my son
