The company name gave me a laugh - sounds like the latin name for d1ck cheese :stuck_out_tongue:

Shame about Kata, I have a couple of those and prefer them too.
The carbon fibre tripod at £128 is a good price. £230 at Amazon, only 3 left.

I think the tripod is OOS now? Would the Hama Star really be that much worse? I really want a tripod of some sort and do not know if I should just go for the Hama or look around ebay for a second hand Manfrotto

Work in television. Don't rate Manfrotto at all, prefer Vinten for cheap and cheerful and Sachtler for high end.

Wouldn't fancy carrying any of the tripods in those brands I've seen up a mountain though.

That's the same as one Aldi sold for about £6 at one point. I just use it as a flash stand now, for which sturdiness doesn't matter.

Always preferred Kata bags and backpacks myself, always found them much stronger.

Manfrotto bought Kata and they're just the same with a different brand on.

ive worked with similar ones for years, you can get good results from them. it is best you have a remote shutter release, or set a timer to minimise vibration. also weighing it down with the hook (usually my camera bag) helps. but when taking some long exposures from a bridge me and a friend were using these type of tri-pods, and another had a £300 manfrotto and he had the only usable images that night because of high winds. i recently bought a carbon fibre one and the difference is massive in terms of build quality. however its a lot heavier and a lot of the time you probably wont see the difference. however when you think your tripod will outlast your camera, and probably your next camera, and the one after that etc etc it might be worth thinking about getting a better one. on another thought the Joby Gorrilapod is awesome, really lightweight and goes everywhere with me. its the tripod you take when you dont need a tripod.

Same tripod I use. Great piece of kit. Only problem was the zip broke on the bag after a couple of week.

Manfrotto do tripod bags I have a padded one for mine and it does what it needs to but they are not in the sale. I was looking at the straps you can get to carry a tripod but I opted for a bag as it is somewhere to store the thing as well and provides some protection for the tripod too

Hot! I'm after a tripod for long exposures. There doesn't look to be anything super sturdy for the seascapes I photograph
Very nice, I have an Olympus E-PL5 but always thought it was 2nd class compared to my Nikon D90, you've inspired me to buy the 12-40mm PRO lense for the E-PL5 and give it a better look in.

Bought (and then sold on) a number of Manfrotto bags in past, always bargains I've found on here and then discovered they are pretty crap, I'd avoid them.
Decent prices on the tripods though, use 3LT these days but would definitely go for one of these if needed
