It just so happens I am an oap and 1gb is more than enough and I will tell you why. I don't walk about with my arm half raised, glancing down every second to see if anyone has contacted me because I am not that important. Even the Queen who is marginally more important than you or I, dosent feel it necessary to keep an eye on such things. Neither am I one of those parents that I see on the bus everyday ignoring their child whilst they tap merrily away on their larger than life phones. Yes, I do consider your post to be slightly offensive and as such, remind you of one thing, one day it will be you.

totally stupid comment!

I am not an OAP ...... but strangely enough have a full time job - so I do not have my phone running Spotify / YouTube / Netflix 24/7 ..... which means my phone is used for mobile data purposes . email / twitter / facebook / news fees etc ..... when I want to watch movies I use a TV or tablet on broadband based WiFi

as a result on sensible usage my monthly data consumption is way less than 1GB

those who use 20 / 30 / 50 GB per month of mobile data, either ain`t got a job or do not understand the concept of mobile data .... one of the reasons Three is killing off the One Plan !

Got this a couple of weeks back and wanted another for a friend, but see it's been pulled and only the 500mins version is available. But the support guy did say that they may have Spring deals coming in a couple of weeks (nothing definite). Anybody know anything about this? Haven't been with them before.

He said that if we get the 500min deal now, they probably wouldn't allow a switch onto a new online deal later, so maybe best to hold off a couple of weeks?

Many thanks . I already have a Android phone but the Sim was specifically for a 10" tablet . We fly quadcopters and using GPS positions and Google Earth we can help locate flyway quads by the signal they send back , so a large screen tablet with a data connection is ideal for that, or so I thought.

I'm not 100% certain a LIFE SIM will work in a dongle / tablet, some networks check you're using an actual phone based on the IMEI of the device and disable data if you're using the SIM in anything else.

Though in any case you'll probably need to enter the APN details for LIFE in the configuration of your dongle / tablet. A google search seems to suggest you need an APN username of 'tslpaymnet' (leave the username and password blank). Might be worth trying that.

If still no joy, another option might be to get yourself a cheap (second hand?) android phone and tether your tablet to that, as luckily LIFE do allow tethering on their SIM only tariffs.

Lady told me there is no plans to give 4G to 30 day contract customers at the moment - they only have 4G for the old 24 month contract customers from the P4U days .....

so maybe not good news for some! NO 4G IN THE FORESEEABLE !

ME AGAIN WITH FURTHER UPDATE

Because this was slightly worrying me, I called back to Life Mobile. I was WRONG. Apparently the 35p retrieval charge is only implemented if you have EXCEEDED your monthly minutes allowance. If a retrieval is carried out within your allocated allowance, it is simply deducted from the allowance. Whilst on, I requested my 20secs calling ring is increased to 30 seconds. I am so sorry if my earlier post came over as alarmist.

No but I think I've realised what the entries are as my total usage is pretty much in line with an app monitor I have on my phone. The midnight entry must be the usage for the previous day doh :smirk:

Hi John, we can turn voicemail off on your account, please call us to do this on 500 from your LIFE Mobile handset. Please note however, that the phone will still only ring for the same length of time as when the voicemail is turned on.

Moved from Tesco mobile sim only to Life mobile sim only via the uswitch £10 deal, saving £5 a month for exactly the same minutes texts and data. Ported my number over the next working day all working fine. Contacted customer service regarding changing my voicemail delay ring time to 30 seconds but still on 20 seconds which is apparently unable to change due to using a third party for the voicemail service.
(call *#61# to check)
I now have data at peak times using Life mobile, which I would frequently lose with Tesco mobile. I can check my remaining allowances on my mobile using Google Chrome and a smart cap is essential on any account with a direct debit.
I have now recommended Life mobile to all my friends. My brother and sister have just switched to Life mobile from Virgin mobile.
Thank you.

Hi Jason, really happy to hear about your experience with LIFE Mobile. In relation to extending your ring length, have you tried dialing **61*555*11*30# ? This should extend the ring length to 30 seconds, however if you are still having trouble please email us at [email protected] with the subject of 'S21 Review' and I will make sure that this is picked up for you.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I have already tried dialling **61*555*11*30# to extend my ring time when unanswered calls are diverted to voicemail. Unfortunately when I check by dialling *#61# it is still on 20 seconds voicemail delay on unanswered calls. It seems like other people are having the same issues with voicemail. I have phoned up a couple of times and reported it to Life mobile customer services.

Doesn't the voicemail charge of 35p only take effect if you have used up your minutes allowance? I'm sure I've used it and not been charged.

edit: Just checked my usage, definitely used voicemail and nil charge.

However on another note, I've noticed data usage every midnight, sometimes as much as 40MB. My phone is connected to wi-fi at that time so how does that work?

Have I discovered an issue with Life Mobile?

I have been told that my phone goes to voicemail quite soon and given I often have to fumble about before I can answer consequently voicemail kicks in quickly.

Life Mobile charge 35P to retrieve each message. I have just found this elsewhere:-

It is likely possible to change the duration of your phone's ringing through entering a special code on your phone (that is set by your network operator). Please visit your network operator's website for information about this or contact them directly about it.

Being slightly paranoid, I am now asking myself, if Life Mobile have set the system to go into Answerphone after a short time, they will soon increase our bills. I think collectively we should endeavour to sort this out, just n case. I have emailed them, but it's a 48 hrs response. maybe I will phone.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

Don't panic Kingfisher. Phoned Life and they readily agreed to turn off Answerphone. It will be done in about 20 minutes. Sorry if I've taken up your time, but unless you ask, you don't know and hopefully someone will be as happy as me.

My number porting completed on the 7th day after LIFE were given my PAC. This is very slow imho, given that it was a EE to EE porting (PO to LIFE) which I am informed actually SLOWS the process down by two days???
Was without my number from about 3pm Weds till about 9am Fri. (as of 18.00hrs Fri, still No sms, phone call or email from LIFE to advise porting complete, although it now is)
Just as well its my personal phone and not a business line. (sorry, only 2* for porting service)

Hi Iain, sorry to hear about the delay in your port. Unfortunately it is true that an internal port often takes longer than a port in from another network. I can see why this might sound bizarre, however there is manual intervention required which is why it can take a little more time. Really pleased to hear about the service you have received from the call centre though and glad that your number port has now completed.

Bit of a snag. I noticed when I finally got the emails through (the CS who took my order got my email address wrong and couldn't be changed till it went live) that my name is spelled incorrectly on my account.

No I know people often spell my name wrong so I spelled it out three times to the CS agent. No worries I thought. I'll just call and ask them to change it.

No go. They need either a copy of my passport, driving licence or birth certificate to change it. And since I have non of those there's nothing they can do. Can't use a utility bill or bank statement apparently (same thing happened with British Gas btw a quick phone call and they had no problem correcting it).

I know it's a small thing but it genuinely irritates the hell out of me seeing the misspelled name on every email they send and on my account.

Got the wife this deal last Saturday.

Sim arrived on the Tuesday, it was activated Wednesday, checked it worked, called Customer Support and gave them the PAC code to transfer her number over to their network. Her 3 Mobile Sim ceased to function Thursday mid afternoon, Friday mid afternoon the number Port was completed. Polite and freindly UK based customer support to boot. Obviously 3g is slower at loading web pages than 4g but if you can live with that it's a cracking deal.

Word of warning, on placeing the order you get an order confirmation email, that also states they will send you a further email confirming the despatch of the Sim. In my case I received no such dispatch email confirmation. Sim turned up in a pack that contained a welcome letter, in this letter it stated that "we have sent you an email containing your account login and temporary password. Again that was not the case, as it turns out they send said email out on "activation" of the Sim.

Now this type of "lazy" miss information can lead to a new customer thinking...hang on what else can go wrong with this outfit.......So your onto Customer Support querying the abscence of those emails, wasting their time and your time. Obviously theres any easy solution to this, redraft the order confirmation email and the welcome letter to reflect what actually happens....will it happen? We shall see.

So my advise is.....place your order, ignore all information in regard to any advice given in the order confirmation email and welcome letter about any further emails and time scales of their sending...............Sit back and wait, as the process in my case was simless

Signed up on Monday, sim arrived tue/wed and put in phone. I was confused because they had assigned me a different number, so daren't use the phone. I had given them my pac number but because my phone was locked to EE, was half afraid it would not work, so they stalled porting the number over.

Today I had a text asking if I was enjoying using LIFE, so I phoned them to ask how could I enjoy them if the number hasn't been ported yet. But, I CAN use it to phone/text, it will just show the LIFE number which no-one will recognise. Tried it and they're right.

Just thought I would share my experiences so far.

I signed up on Monday. Received the sim on Wednesday. It was activated by Thursday, at which point I phoned them with my PAC to migrate my number over. That seems to have been completed today and everything seems to be working well. CS have been prompt and friendly on the two times I have had to ring them. 'My account' section online is a bit basic looking but has all the important info within and is easy to use.

All good so far, hope it remains so.

Bit of a strange one this. I am at work and can text and receive calls. Data is also fine. However I get a 'network busy' when try to make calls, unless it's to somebody on EE. Can't call another life phone or customer services on 500.

I also came across an unusual but slightly different problem when I first switched to Life. After a few days I found that I could use data, make and receive calls, receive texts but when I tried to send texts it would say something like "network not available" To be fair customer service was excellent. UK call centre and not left on hold. They diagnosed as most likely a sim issue and put a new one in the post next working day which arrived the following day. They also refunded a months payment to reimburse me for my inconvenience.
Put the new sim in and after activation it immediately cured the problem. A few weeks later and all is still fine so hope it will remain that way. Your problem could be entirely different but a replacement sim may be worth a try.

Switched from EE to Life this week. You can keep your number when moving from EE.

Ordered online, sim came within 48 hours. Ported my number and it went through on the first day, only had about 1-2 hours downtime during port.

Great customer service, only ever speak to one person to get things sorted.

Just called and ordered second line on the same £6 deal via uswitch.

No 1, even if you go direct to Life Mobile and ask for the deal seen on uswitch, they honour it.
No 2, put you sim in the phone when it arrives (ensuring it is charged up)
No 3, texts start coming in to say your number will be ported across within a short time, 24/48hrs
No 4, irrespective of who is your current provider their logo will show on screen ie EE until Life port, then presumably their logo will show.

You terminate the contract when your PAC is used.

OK this ais a little worrying!

so for understanding - sometimes your phone reports the connected network as EE and sometimes as LIFE?

if yes then this sounds like an old giffgaff issue where O2 customers get priority over giffgaff customers for network capacity. When I was on GG in Birmingham I never experienced this problem but when my parents were on GG on Merseyside they had ongoing problems with not being able to make an outgoing call - same story, network busy.

O2 and GG always denied network profiling / prioritisation but it clearly happened up there

Maybe teh same with LM on EE

When does the 30 day contract start? When you click the "buy it" button (bad) or when you activate the SIM or at some other time?
How does the 30 day rolling contract work? Is it the same or similar to Tescos (which is terrible).
I know I could contact CS to find out, but why should I? This essential information should be made clear when the tariff is advertised.
I'm still using the Post Office PAYG SIM and it's great, despite the recent reduced bundle allowances. If nothing else, they publish exactly how their products work.

You pay the first month upfront when you sign up, I believe this is standard practice for pay monthly sim contracts is it not? The contract I believe starts when your sim is activated, if you don't want to call cs then you might want to check out life mobile website, you should find all the info you need there :-)

I was on the 3 all you can eat tarif until I received a letter yesterday increasing the cost from £15 to £27, called them up and cancelled and purchased this sim. Found 3 to be a nightmare to cancel, at one point the call operator was starting to get aggressive.
Wotan
18 Feb 16 #173
Exactly. I don't expect them to be happy about losing a customer but if they're not prepared to try and keep someone's custom then why should they think we'd be happy to pay more for less.

And there's no need to be utterly rude about it and then not bother to actually send the PAC over.

Hoping my life sim arrives tomorrow/Saturday and I can get the number ported over early next week.

Have you kept the Life sim on throughout the transfer (port)? If yes, try turning phone off and on again, or if no, call them up and see what they suggest, maybe its still in the process of being ported, have Life confirmed that the port will happen and when (usually a text and email)?
Bunglistik
17 Feb 16 1 #170
Your contract should end when the port completes, PAC codes are active for 30 days, and your old network should charge you pro rata if you're out of contract for what you've used, not a complete month?
Bunglistik
17 Feb 16 #169
When I called EE to obtain my PAC (on T-Mobile for 12 years) I told the customer services chap on the phone about the Life Mobile deal, and that they were owned by EE, he put me on hold, came back to me and offered significantly less minutes/text/date for more £, and actually told me to "go for the Life Mobile deal as they wouldn't be able to beat it..it is a very good deal" I was surprised but admired his honesty lol
elitom
17 Feb 16 1 #167
half correct!

your PAC code must be used and the transfer complete within 30 days BUT your contract does not end if you don't use it is correct.

So if you do not use the PAC code your contract carries on as normal although your notice is already served so you could get another PAC code and use it immediately and you would be refunded unused days

EliTom
elitom
17 Feb 16 1 #165
your notice starts when you ask for your PAC code

if your billing date and your PAC date are not the same then they will bill you for an extra month BUT you will be refunded any days over the 30 day notice period when the account is actually terminated ..... i.e. when the PAC is executed

Due to a problem with a new phone and delay in purchasing an unlocking code due to Chinese New Year, my port from Tesco happened today, with a few days left until my PAC would have expired.

My billing date was yesterday and I have been charged for another month with Tesco. Is that correct or did my 30 days notice start when I requested the PAC?

As a metter of interest, why don't you think 1gb is enough? I regularly check emails, surf and connect remotely to my work PC - all with 4G - and have plenty left each month. I don't stream, but as many services such as iPlayer and Amazon allow you to download, don't really see the need. Can't see the point of 'all you can eat' data unless you don't have home broadband and prefer to tether.

Why is it on this site people assume that because a deal isn't suitable for them it's not suitable for anyone.

I use over 30gb data a month on my phone. Less than 100mb of that is mobile data. Because I live in a big city and every my local corner shop has free wifi. And given that I'm not walking around a ghost town I'll hazard a guess that I'm not the only person in this position.

I'm neither an OAP nor have I just figured out how to use he Internet.

So using your logic I should assume that nobody will ever need more that 500mb simply because I don't.

Called Tesco for my pac and the CS rep was atrocious. Rude and accused life mobile of several things from over charging to refusing to cap contracts (she told me she had their entire [email protected] in front of her haha). Then was even more rude when I told her I thought it was bad practice to bad mouth another company in an attempt to keep customers. To top it off she never bothered sending the PAC!

DECISION MADE! phoned Life Mobile, explained I have a locked EE Rook and am apprehensive about committing to Life in case their sim doesn't work. I was told there is a 50/50 chance. We then proceeded with the order. It will be despatched today and should be here tomorrow. It is destined to go live at 9pm. I should insert their sim and try out. If it works then fine, if not, continue to use my old phone. Life are to ring me on Saturday to see what has happened. If the result is that it works, they will port the number over, if not, I either have the phoned unlocked at a shop or return the sim.

I rang live a week last Saturday with a few questions, almost instantly picked up, (cs, I think, is based in Liverpool) I was on EE PAYG paying £10 pm for a package, my last pack ended with ee last fri so I didn't actually need the new contract until fri at the latest, I asked about porting my number and was told that it was quicker to get my PAC then ring them back and do the switch over the phone, if I ordered on the sat my sim should be delivered mon, sim live on tues and port on wed.

I did exactly that, it took me longer to get my PAC from EE than it did to sign up to LIFE! Everything was a day behind expected except my port which happened on Friday morning ( I have been told it takes a little longer to port from EE, not sure how true that is though!) with only a small disruption to my data service but by Friday pm everything was as it should've been, I didn't get my welcome email until my account went live (with username/password) but I had been told I would get that before my sim arrived, not a real issue, I also had a text letting me know my port was happening and they would text me again when it was complete, never got the 2nd text but again not a real issue, overall, so far so good, but it's early days, I have rang cs a few times since placing my order, always get through within 2 rings, to a real person, no automation which is brill and my queries have been dealt with each time, I'm giving it a month and if all is well they'll be getting an order for 2 more sims for the kids :-)

EDIT: you can definitely get the same Uswitch deal over the phone, just mention it when ordering, that's what I did :-)

Wow!, it is good that people on here are being forthcoming with the information they gleen for themselves from elsewhere. As a matter of interest, EE told me they had no knowledge of Life Mobile, then when my son rang, they told him the same.

Secondly, don't you find it a source of satisfaction that calls are answered quickly and from a call centre in the uk. The cooling off period is good, in case any ee locked phone doesn't accept the sim. I also found the information that Life are prepared to honour the uswitch deal, very good.

If the service they offer is as good as the information we are reading here, then they fully deserve to be a success don't you think.

15 Feb 16 #130
Re EE locked handset, just called Life they were helpful if you have an existing EE locked handset there is a 50/50 chance the life sim will work in your handset. But they do have a 14 day cooling off period. So if you receive the sim and it doesn't work you can call within the 14days and cancel.

Just to say I took out two £6/month deals in early Jan, one of which had a number port.
Both went ok, very much as people have said above.
The ‘smartcap’ for additional use it set at £5 but call them to reduce (if you want) to £1 (that’s the minimum).

What is wrong with reposting a deal which is great value for money? Do those who "yawn" at this being reposted resent others (perhaps new to HUKD) seeing a good deal?

Is that not the whole point of HUKD?

I have been with LIFE mobile for about a month on this deal and I am very happy with it. I left TPO because I needed a little more data than they were providing for their £5 a month deal. For £1 a month extra I am avoiding surcharges for over the limit usage.

Why should others not enjoy the same privilege? Before I step down off my soap box, I am registered blind and yet I was able to set up my mobile without sighted assistance - so no worries there, for anyone who was concerned about setting their phone up!

Get PAC code from your current supplier, it will be valid for 30 days.

Call you new supplier and give them the code, sometimes you can give them the code online. It can take one day to a week depend on the new supplier. Once the new supplier used the PAC code, your services with your old supplier automatically end.

Sometimes, when you initially sign up with the new supplier, they give you the option to enter the PAC code. But more often, such option not exist in the signing up process. It depends on the new supplier. More often, you only give new supplier your PAC once you received your new SIM from your new supplier and activated the SIM. It does not matter as long as the PAC code is used within 30 days. You have to factor in the new supplier's processing time.

If the PAC code is expired before it is used, your services with your old supplier still in place. And you can request a new PAC code again.

If you do not need to keep your number, you can terminate your services with your current supplier straightaway.

Life mobile was and still is an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator), not a physical network. Doesn't matter who they piggy back on to. It just happens that an actual network is now also the owner.
SL1210
14 Feb 16 1 #64
Correct Phones 4U had its own virtual mobile network, as does the big 3 supermarkets Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco. Talk Talk and Virgin Media are also virtual mobile networks using the infrastructure and frequencies owned and operated by 3, EE, 02 Telefonica, or Vodafone.

That sounds weird. The PAC code should have worked as long as you used it within 30 days. They expire after that and they have to issue a new one.

There is no 'may' about it.
Phones4U owned and ran Life Mobile. EE then bought them out when P4U folded...

They may have been an MVNO. I don't ever recall them having a networks ops licence in the UK.

I think you missed part of my comment. "It does not hurt to give them a call, point out the deal and ask them to price match."

You did the exact as my comment. You gave them a call, point the deal out, and they price matched for you.
huangxq2
14 Feb 16 #52
I was told that you cannot transfer number within the same network.

Although LIFE is owned by EE, but they are under different name. So not sure if above applies to transfer between them. Thanks for confirming that it applies and trf between EE and LIFE does not work.

I have the current £5 life mobile contract. Can I change this to the £6 easily enough?
huangxq2 to greavsy69
14 Feb 16 #28
Most likely you cannot. This package is £7.95 on their website. So if you want, you can transfer to the package at £7.95 a month. It is only purchase from Uswitch get you to £6. It does not hurt to give them a call, point out the deal and ask them to price match.

If your current contract is 30 days, you can always buy this £6, and not continue your current £5 from next month. I am not sure if you can transfer current mobile number within the same network. I was once told that I cannot.

EE were a nightmare for us.

Life have been superb in the 6 months we've been with them
polarbaba
14 Feb 16 #10
agreed, uk call centre, always very pleasant to deal with and easy to get hold of.
it a company owned by EE and its thier service provider. your service will be as good as EE is anyway. as for 4G they probably keep thr cost down by keeping it 3G only and EE themselves get to sell thier 4G product themselves until they are happy they have milked it for all its worth and will open thier 4G service to companies they supply such as LIFE mobile.
huangxq2 to polarbaba
14 Feb 16 #25
Are you serious? Regarding customer services of mobile network providers, EE has been the top of worst customer services for continuous few years now. Please do some googling.

They are not easy to get hold of when it comes to that you want to leave.

I knew people just give up because they cannot get out and they do not want waste time trying to get through to EE.

And they will make mistakes and tell you different things everytime you get through to them and overcharge you in the end.
huangxq2
14 Feb 16 #24
Generally, you can move your number freely between networks, not only within EE. It just take a day or few days depend on the network.

EE is really a hassle trying to get out. I have work colleagues tied up with EE simply they cannot waste so much time to contact them to end their contract. I will never touch EE given my last bad experience.
huangxq2
14 Feb 16 1 #23
If it is 30 days contract, does not that meant they can increase price after 30 days.

This deal gives no assurance of how long you can have £6 a month for.

If price increase, you may have to start your search and transfer number again.
Pixam
14 Feb 16 #22

I posted a deal a while ago for the £15 deal, so far I have been impressed with Life Mobile.

I get a great signal in most places, certainly better than when I was on 3. Yes they currently only provide 3G but they are upgrading to 4G very soon. Personally I find 3G adequate for what I need.

UK based call centre, always polite and helpful.
