There are some phones which, unfortunately, experience lag. Google are aware, and are working on fixes. It doesn't seem to affect everyone, though. It's a bit bizarre.
If you don't mind a bit of modding, you can make it into quite a beast with not-a-lot of effort (the below should take 20-30 mins, but it will wipe your phone the first time you're doing it - but don't worry, Marshmallow can restore all your apps it backs up automatically when you're setting it back up).
You'll need to unlock the bootloader, but since this is a Nexus, it doesn't affect the warranty. There's plenty of tools to help you do this if you're not familiar with fastboot.
Then once you have done that and installed the TWRP recovery, flash Pure Nexus ROM, and it's GApps (all in that link).
Then flash the ElementalX kernel and follow the guide to setup the GhostPepper CPU governor settings. Using the ElementalX app is the easiest way (but not free).
Then lastly, there's CameraX which enables 240fps slow-mo and EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation) which was only supposed to be on the 6P (which has the same camera hardware).
And now my Nexus 5X is buttery smooth, lasts easily all day on battery with 4+ hours SOT, and has a host of extra features and customisations to boot (Layers is fantastic - allows you to theme the phone is many ways, including 3rd party apps. Great to make the phone your own).
But this is the beauty of owning a Nexus device. They're built to be added on to and modified without any worry from Google.
If your HTC or Samsung or Moto is found 'modded' when it comes to a warranty claim, they'll hang you high and dry.

Sold my Nexus 5 to upgrade to this but got tempted with the Moto X Force and never looked back, it's amazing. battery life is very important to me and I had concerns with this after the awful battery on the Nexus 5

Recently my galaxy S6 start having some issues, like only showing miss calls, or battery dropping from 11% to 5% just after I press the power button then go to 0% in about 2 minutes, so I contacted Amazon as I bought it from them and still have a 4 months or so warranty, they asked me to return for full refund. Happy but what will I buy with that money (410£) so my question is this one a downgrade or worthy competitor to the S6, or should I get the S7

If you've got the money pay the extra for the Nexus 6P. The 6P is a premium phone like the S6, the Nexus 5 is built to be more budget-y.

£261 amazon warehouse very good condition - it'll be like brand new. I would get that if I wanted a Nexus

Check out Ulefone Power, look for comments in other mobile threads. Beast of a phone for £120. No lag due to octa core and more importantly 3GB RAM. Totally vanilla android an 6050mAh battery says god bye to battery stress.

Because Chinese companies are always honest with battery capacity :smirk: I find it very hard to believe there is a battery that large in such a slim form factor.

Don't forget the bigger trousers with the bigger pockets for it to slip into, and the plastic surgery to get bigger hands to use the phone one-handed, still
