I already have the German release Director's cut DVD and the UK release Bluray. I really shouldn't buy this, but I have. Absolutely love this movie. Gary Oldman's best performance to date.
Can't help but wonder how Luc Besson can produce a masterpiece like this and then Lucy.

It is a great movie. The slightly creepy views some people have of this movie are down right incorrect. The relationship between the two of them is pretty sweet really.
Leon is a good man who's completely a Lone (anagram of Leon).
The girl needs protecting and love (after what happens very early on), Leon only provides protection, but she, at moments, sees him as providing love too. He is incapable of such feelings.
Anyhow that's my breakdown of it. Bloody good movie.

22 Feb 161#23
if you think it's sweet don't watch the directors cut mate - that cuts out a lot of ambiguity (bearing in mind it is a french movie)
good price though, hate zavvi but been looking out for a deal on a 'definitive' edition of this movie as it is great.

Recently some cut scenes from the original script were released, and those creepy feelings people got from the movie about their relationship were indeed founded, as one of the scenes that was cut was indeed a sex scene between Leon and Mathilda, it was Portman's parents who stepped in over this and other things in the script, so Bessons had to make changes to the script.
Good movie with some cracking performances, but now we know just why we get that creepy uncomfortable vibe from this movie.

Don't watch Leon: The Professional then. It's not what I'd call sweet.

22 Feb 16#63
There's an extended version of this film which changes the relationship to one that's more sinister. "Natalie Portman's parents were extremely worried about the smoking scenes in the ... In the original script, Mathilda (aged 13 or 14) and Léon became lovers."
Natalie Portman was 11-12 years old in this film, so to describe her as hot you'd really need to be around the same age as her or suffering from a paraphilia, so that comment from the earlier person was quite likely creepy.

Leon is one of my all time favourites. I watched Tomorrowland a few days ago, easily the outstanding performance was a 12yr old girl called called Raffey Cassidy. It made me think of Natalie Portman's impact in Leon, but Leon also had a fantastic performance by Jean Reno, my favourite screen actor of those days. For me, 'The Big Blue' and 'Leon' had Luc Besson and Jean Reno at their very best...

Really excellent film and while I try and live a minimalist life (pah!) and now only buy the kids their DVDs, bearing in mind this is never on TV, Sky or Netflix (for some reason), very tempted to get this. And if anyone feels old about this film, I saw Sid and Nancy again a couple of weeks ago, and watched Tinker Tailor last night - how can Gary Oldman now be this old man?!

I like steelbooks and if there is a film that I know I will watch again and again, such as Leon, I like to get the steelbook version as i will keep it forever.
Also the art work on steelbooks is usually totally different to the normal Blu Ray or DVD and the majority have no BBFC stickers or movie details, just pictures - makes them cooler than normal (IMO).

I tend to agree that if you choose to have an opinion, create it as an opinion rather than a simplistic factual statement. On IMDB it receives 8.6, not many films achieve this so are 691,452 people wrong as well?
What films do you know that reach this level?

A rather pedantic reply imho (sarcasm intended) I would have presumed that most people on here would take this as my opinion and not a statement of fact.
In my opinion, I think that this film may not be as good as its reputation leads people to believe. (is that an acceptable thing to say?)
On a side note, If you take out Gary Oldman's performance (because I think in my opinion it was very good) what was it that made this great film become this legendary masterpiece?

25 Feb 16#75
I think that is a very fair opinion to have, obviously shared by a minority of people which is fine!!!
