Actually it won't struggle because a serious investor won't buy at even close to RRP and will diversify a large portfolio of different sets at different prices. Some will then be flipped for a quick turnover and others will be stored for months or years.

Admittedly it becomes harder to tell what will make money if more speculators jump in but not everything selling for a few pounds is a poor investment and not everything for £100+ is a wise investment.

The problem with Lego investing in the UK is that we don't get anywhere near the same number of special offers from retailers that those in the USA get, so our buy in costs are far higher on average. This puts us at a big disadvantage already. The other big issue is storage. Our homes are smaller and storage units are more expensive to rent here.4;

in regards to Lego as an investment you'll struggle with any sets from now on. simply down to articles telling jo bloggs that lego is worth more than gold. so in the past the tumblers would be bought and built. instead thousands have been bought and stored simply to turn a profit.

Lego as an investment is going to struggle because of those articles.

Saw one of these in Teesside Park at the weekend, tatty box though.

Once upon a time people invested in bricks & mortar now we invest in lego bricks

I would have thought it'd be a good investment, hasn't seemed a popular set so imagine there won't be many around after retirement, will become genuinely hard to find similar to the UCS Falcon

That's because the UCS falcon is no longer available obviously. When this set retires it's only gonna go up in price like every other Lego set, no matter how much or how small it will still go up

I had already seen the number of Tumbler sets on eBay. But I actually think a lot of the stock was bought by chancers who just wanted to try and make a quick buck. I don't think a lot of them want to hold on to them for several years.

Every thing is subject to reissue and potentially a better set at some point down the line (even inferior newer releases can reduce the costs of the originals -the star wars line is the most susceptible to this), buy if you like, don't buy if you dislike. Doubt this set has much potential for another release tho (comic version? agents of shield? Mini figure scale £££). Some of the lego board games have micro figures that would go nicely with the helicarrier (Batman vs Cap :P). Megabloks for me this year with the 80's TMNT stuff, tho some lego stuff for sure but this is as some one who isn't interested in resale value.

Wow no wonder I usually miss the UCS offers, they are all being bought by investment bankers! Got one of these last time TRU had it cheap, looks great on the shelf! Much better than in a box :wink:

I read the scale thing too, it's cos they are micro figures not mini figures.

Contrarain approach would mean it will go up in value cos it will be shunned by the masses and not be many in circulation.

I'm gutted I missed the tumbler. Will try and get a deal of the bay. Still some sellers with reasonable pricing

Just read a thread on Eurobricks.com and I'm starting to have reservations about it as investment. A lot of comments on how it was too expensive and a lot of people not liking the scale.

I have no time limit on this stuff. I found a technics set I used to have 30 years ago. Got me all fired up for something to hand down to my children when they are older. So I'm trying to buy sets that will be enjoyable to build as well as investment potential

But by then, who knows, oculus Rift, AI, robotics. Lego may not be super favourable in the far future. I'm a fan, I'll sit there and build them then!

In regards to the Tumbler (my last comment)

No doubt its great iv got a few and i hope its a good investment but you just got to take one look on the bay... It seems like everyones jumped on it .. American market will do alot better than ours

I bought this for investment. Worst case I'll build it in a few years. I think star wars is done. Sure there are some amazing sets, but we might have seen peak star wars lego. My reason is every man and his dog is on to the trend of lego investment and they will go on to buy what has worked before. Like buying the stock market high.

You are right and the obscure sets. They will go up up and away cos no one will look to buy them.

This one even at 240 is a high price per block and it's a big f off box as well which doesn't make it the best investment and it will probably be on par with the return the death star has shown. I believe unopened this will achieve 500 in a few years.

The real money will be in the old sets. Buy then second hand if you can cos they will undoubtedly be more expensive as time goes on and people open them (which is the idea, right!)

Personal opinion. its not a wise a investment in my eyes if you want my advice Star Wars is the way to go.Before you start investing you should determine what type of investor you want to be . Do you want to flip these for a little profit or keep them for 3years+ and sell them for a bigger profit.

Although the Helicarrier is a UCS i would rather have more Star Wars sets in my inventory. I am also sceptical about The Tumbler, in 3/4 Years it would easily of doubled in value, BUT because slot were found in stoke Smyths warehouse they were put on sale again and there are around 70 or so listings on theBay and i now think the market with be saturated, people will try to undercut other sellers to get rid of them in a few years.

My tip for anyone investing is to do your research and always look out for "Sleepers" .Look up The DeLorean retailed at £35 now sells for £100+ imagine if you bought a few of these!!

I think this will retire soon but 50/50 whether it will become popular after retirement ok if you like a gamble.

Why do you say that, Gooner Getcha? UCS sets tend to do well after they get retired - it's not Star Wars, admittedly, but why would this be any different?
