They sell two different versions of live memberships:
the gift card version gets activated once swiped through a till and has silver scratch panel on the back, is excluded from double up
http://argos.scene7.com/is/image/Argos/4826376_R_Z001A?$TMB$&wid=312&hei=312

the other that has been pre-activated and is about a5 in size works on the double up
http://argos.scene7.com/is/image/Argos/5669109_R_Z001A_UC1384142?$TMB$&wid=312&hei=312

12month gift card version costs £37.99 while the other one costs £35.99

same goes for psn credit/membership, as long as it isn't a gift card version that has a silver scratch panel on the back, then it will work on the double up.

I bought £40 of Xbox gift vouchers in one local store after they phoned someone higher up in the store who OK'd it, however the till wouldn't accept it at checkout but they manually put it through for me!

On visiting another local store a couple of days later though, I noticed a hastily printed sign saying gift cards were NOT included, I'd imagine this takes in the PSN cards too, but as the whole thing seems a bit of a shambles it's just down to your luck really!

The way they did it for me was.
Buy a Xbox live 12 months and a book or DVD so its over £40, then also buy another game that's more than forty or add a CD so it becomes more than £40, so the total is at least about £85, once done, and paid for (£40 double up and the rest in cash). Go back within a few minutes and get them to refund the game and/or dvd, you will get your cash back and would of bought the Xbox live for the double up.
Last night was a mither for me.
On the shelf Xbox live was marked up at £35.99 but they scanned it and it was coming up at £37.99, so they marked it down, I also got a Bluetooth speaker to take it over £40, as the girl said that was part of the entertainment deal. It wasn't so I had to look for something else, I found some thumb pads for ps4 joypads @ £4, so it was £39.99, all done and I would get a penny change, nope, an hour later and numerous calls to nectar and them trying to get the manager down out of his room at the back, which he wouldn't do, they finally did what I suggested above, I did get a free £10 voucher for all the mither and time wasted.

But they also said that they have an offer on kids toys, but it doesn't include the new outdoor spring/summer collection of kids toys.

What is the thinking behind this ludicrously complicated, absurdly restrictive system? Do Sainsbury's get some kind of twisted sadistic pleasure making their confused customers tick all the boxes and jump through all the hoops on time, or is it a demented psychological alchemy aimed at bending out minds in order to sell us more stuff? Too much Nectar drives you crazy, man. It's bad JuJu.

Anyone who has been in recently know if Sainsbury's are doing 2 for £15 on the Disney Infinity figures?
Thanks
pugsleyh to s4m77
31 Mar 16 #174
Yes, I was in there today, and the £9.99 figures are to for £15. I tried it with one of the Marvel £12.99 figures and it didn't work, but it worked fine with the £9.99 Star wars one.
Just for info, I also bought one of the Skylanders Superchargers starter packs for Wii, at £12.99, and then noticed a sign saying that you got a free figure - kick off countdown if you bought a superchargers starter pack. I didn't think it would work whilst the starter pack prices are so good, but it did  The Skylanders superchargers figures are £12.99 BOGOF, so got four of them. Kids are going to be happy.

Also, got a drone with a camera (OrbitcamXXL) from the Sainsburys at White Rose Leeds. It was £100, and then reduced to £40 - I got it with a double up voucher. Got the last one in that store, but it may be worth looking out for them elsewhere. Be careful with the double up vouchers though, I took the drone to customer service and asked them for a double up voucher for it. As it was from the toy aisle, they said it should be a toy voucher, but when I took it to the checkouts, it didn't work. They honoured it though luckily.

Here's my reply from them, so you could quote this, which I'm going to do.

Dear ******

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch with us and for letting us know about your recent trip to one of our stores.

I realise how disappointed you must've been when you were told you couldn't receive your double up points as Xbox Live subscriptions aren't included in the promotion.. I'd be happy to look into this for you.

I've had a look on our systems and have read through the terms and conditions for the double up promotion. After reading the T&C's, I can confirm that the Xbox Live subscription is included as part of the double up promotion, coming under the console accessories category.

If you'd like to go back into the store and try and purchase the subscription again, you will be able to receive your double up points. If there are any issues when trying to do this, you can advise the store that you've been in contact with the Careline and they've confirmed that you can receive the points.

If you require any further assistance, please send us another email and we'd be happy to help.

31 Mar 16 1 #166
According to the terms and conditions if you spent 39.99 in a category with a 40 quid voucher you would get 1p change. If you‘re local Sainsbury`s are doing something different I would politely remind them of seaction 13 of the terms and conditions. Copied and pasted for reference, ta

Where the difference is more than 50p, then additional goods from your selected category must be purchased so that the full value of the Nectar Double Up voucher is spent in one transaction;

Where the difference is between and inclusive of 6p and 50p, the balance may be applied against any other goods in your shopping basket. The full value of the voucher must be spent and no change will be given;

Where the difference is between and inclusive of 1p and 5p, the balance will be given as change. This change will be applied against any other goods in your basket or, where no other goods are purchased, given in cash.
pinkleponkle
31 Mar 16 #165
Neither options are perfect as you have to spend the same or over the voucher value. Both the division and far cry would involve buying something else, if it's under the value the sale won't go through. You can't simply say don't worry about the balance, even 1p
Chanchi32
31 Mar 16 #163
Afternoon kowalski

A few things
- when you exchange your points for a voucher you may get a money off coupon
- cex prices change daily and suspect that the price for the 2 games mentioned may change within the next week. If you want to guarantee a price you can go to cex online and get a guaranteed price for 10 days with free shipping. Only disadvantage is that its not immediate like walking into store.

- Maybe look at Xbox and ps3 titles too. Just had a quick look and Lego star wars clone 111 is 10 quid with a 7 quid trade in value.

- If you went for an eBay route GTA V PS4 is selling for approximately what you pay at Sainsburys of 29.99 however need to account for sellers, PayPal fees and shipping so probably looking at 25 quid if all goes to plan

- Other option would be buying the division and then exchanging it within 28 days for a game of equivalent value, which may have a higher resell value. See luvclubs comments around exchanging goods.

Bfn back to the sun lounger and pool - ta

I spent some time today in my local Sainsburys in the electrical/entertainment section.
I have ~6000 Nectar points so I'm going to exchange £20 worth into a £40 voucher.
I'm interested in converting my Nectar points into cash by buying a game or Blu-ray and then selling it in CEX.

I pretty much looked through all the Xbox One and PS4 chart games on the shelf and checked the price on CEX's website (I assume the price listed for WeBuy is what I would get in cash in person in a store? I haven't used CEX before?)

The only ones that were even close were:

The Division (Xbox One)
Sainsburys £39.99
WeBuy for £32.00

Far Cry Primal (PS4 or Xbox One)
£27.99 in Sainsburys
WeBuy for cash £24.00

Am I guaranteed those prices? (assuming the item is shrink wrapped and still in mint condition)

The Division is probably my best option as the voucher is going to be £40, whereas Far Cry (£27.99) would leave me with £12.01 I needed to spend in that department or go to waste

Does anyone have a suggestion for a different game or maybe even an item from another department that has close to resale value on CEX or maybe eBay?

sorry to hear about your story.

I think (correct me if I am wrong), if you return item to them, you could get back the points. But the problem is that it takes time to back to your nectar balance. So talk to their store manager to see if they could give out temp voucher (sort of) to solve it (?)

Meanwhile, maybe you could contact nectar through their site (they always reply within 2 working days). Also contact Sainsburys headquarter to complain/kindly point out their wrong end.

Not read all through this thread so not sure if anyone has mentioned this but worth checking your Nectar account and seeing if you have like me an offer for 3000 free pts with ANY order to Viking Direct (code: 9C4-PRB3000).

Postage is £2.90 for any order under £30 but if you need something anyway or just want to spend a fiver on a ream of paper you could still get potentially £30 worth of points!

Use your Nectar anywhere is a doddle.

Cant use it in any Sainsbury...
.can't redeem more than £20 worth of points. Can't use it in this department....etc etc

What idiots decided this?
Tony68k
28 Feb 16 #82
Can anyone clarify this please?

I'm sure I read somewhere that you can only redeem points in a store you have used your Nectar card in in the last few months. I've got thousands of points so would like to redeem some at my local store and then some more at another store and want to know if there are any restrictions such as this.
Chanchi32 to Tony68k
28 Feb 16 #83
Section 7 of the terms and conditions

"Nectar points can only be exchanged for a Nectar Double Up voucher on presentation of a Nectar card. To ensure that your Nectar balance is recognised at your selected participating store, we recommend that you have swiped and earned Nectar points at that store within the preceding 12 months."

So I interpret that as long as you have used your Nectar card on a £1+ spend in the last 12 months at the two stores you plan to redeem should be fine.
luvclub to Tony68k
29 Mar 16 1 #131
You can only exchange your points for vouchers in one of your frequented stores (during the last year), but you could redeem the voucher in any.

I think this is to lessen the chance of stolen nectar card points being wiped out in one go. E.g the thief might not know which stores you have used recently. It is a crappy safeguard but better than nothing as the nectar card has no pin or signed signature.

I believe you could use it in a store that you have not been to before, but when you exchange your points they would need to call Nectar to confirm your account details before issuing a voucher.
Oli3000
29 Mar 16 #127
Can you use these to preorder games if not out this week?
luvclub to Oli3000
29 Mar 16 1 #130
The only 'possible' workaround is using a voucher to purchase a similar priced game which is the same price or less than your pre-order item.

Leave it sealed and take it back once the game you want comes in to stock and exchange it at customer services and pay the balance. If you're polite they would not even look at how the original game was funded. You should have 28 days to do this.

I used this method several times during a past promotion. At that time I chose some Bluray boxsets as some came in at exactly £10 or £20.

For those of you struggling with the maths, Sainsbury's have created a patronising little infographic that explains what 'doubling up' looks like.

"£5 is now worth £10."
"£10 is now worth £20."
"£15 is now worth £30"

Woaahhh hold on there Einstein, I'm not sure my little brain can handle those calculations

You can use a double up voucher on an item that's £39.99 without finding something else in the same category to hit £40, you will be given 1p change - see section 13 of the terms and conditions

13. Except for Crawley, where goods from your selected category cost less than the value of your Nectar Double Up voucher the following terms apply:

Where the difference is more than 50p, then additional goods from your selected category must be purchased so that the full value of the Nectar Double Up voucher is spent in one transaction;

Where the difference is between and inclusive of 6p and 50p, the balance may be applied against any other goods in your shopping basket. The full value of the voucher must be spent and no change will be given;

Where the difference is between and inclusive of 1p and 5p, the balance will be given as change. This change will be applied against any other goods in your basket or, where no other goods are purchased, given in cash.

Yeah it's a bit of con when you compare what Tesco do on their offers.

You can get multiple double up vouchers for the same category if you get them at different times, but you have to use them separately as well. Also, the fact that you can't use a £40 double up voucher on an item that's £39.99 is ridiculous, you need to find something in the same category to take it up to or over £40.

Having an issue with nectar where my bonus 1600 points (when I spend £80 or more) are disappearing from my account. The bonus points have been credited on my receipt, then mysteriously disappearing from the opening balance the next time I go to store. They can't seem to understand the issue and keep fobbing me off with excuses like "they'll appear in 28 days". There's something fishy going on. And no I'm not spending them! (You can't spend 1600 points anyway).
Keep a look out for it and check your receipts from one week to the next everyone! I suspect it's not the first time too.

Is there anything stopping you going in a couple of times and exchanging your points for vouchers with different cashiers on the same category? as-long as you don't use the vouchers in the same transaction?
Chanchi32 to Warrants
27 Feb 16 #55
No nothing stopping you. Taken from a previous thread - comment from Luvclub

"You could exchange as many times as you want as long as the sales assistant don't recognise you. Last November I exchanged £40 Entertainment vouchers 5 or 6 times and used them to purchase console games/bluray. However it is not possible to use more than one voucher in one transaction.

There was also a loophole in the T&C which allowed you to get around the promotion expiry and unused vouchers expiring. If you have unused vouchers and don't have anything to purchase just yet then use it to purchase something which is the same value as the voucher. Best to do this on the final day of the promotion. You would then have an additional 28 days to exchange the unused item for something that you would really want even if it is after the end of the promotion. If you really have no use for it then just ask for a refund and they would refund the original points that were used to exchange for the voucher. "

Another useful comment from Luvclub

"Also, there has been a lovely and sensible addition to the T&C:

"Where goods from your selected category cost less than the value of your Nectar Double Up voucher the following terms apply:
1) Where the difference is 50p or more, then additional goods from your selected category must be purchased so that the full value of the Nectar Double Up voucher is spent in one transaction;
2) Where the difference is between and inclusive of 6p and 50p, the balance may be applied against any other goods in your shopping basket. The full value of the voucher must be spent and no change will be given;
3) Where the difference is between and inclusive of 1p and 5p, the balance will be given as change. This change will be applied against any other goods in your basket or, where no other goods are purchased, given in cash."

This is great for example for purchasing those £9.99 or £39.99 items so you could make use of the exact voucher amount instead of having to overspend."

Echo most comments on here, not a patch on the Tesco Clubcard scheme due to T's & C's.
I do high mileage and fill up at a Sainsbury's petrol station so I usually have nectar equivalent of £100+ to spend. Not wonderful news when you calculate how much petrol I have bought to gain those points. Tend to cash in at face value on something noticeable (camera, mobile phone) at Argos where there don't seem to be any restrictions other than they don't give you the penny change.

Another redemption option to look out for is Homebase - last year they ran a promo (it may have been targeted) where if you redeemed your points at Homebase they gave you 50% of your points back. Homebase sell a range of giftcards for a range of retailers

Chanchi32 to kesi10032003
27 Feb 16 1 #47
If they do a points promo on days out this would be a separate promotion and probably more likely to do in Summer months if it happens.

Another option would be to get the days out from Tesco Clubcard. The easiest way to earn points quickly before the 5th May (which is the cut off date for the current points collection period) is to convert £50 topcashback (annual limit) into 5000 Clubcard points which would be worth up to £200 in days out. If you do this before the 5th May then approximately a week after you should have the vouchers to use.

goldy12 to CROOH92
27 Feb 16 1 #43
I remember they did offer a deal with Vue cinema tickets or Pizza express last summer sometime, but I think that 's about all they've done. Nothing like the Tesco deals.
Sainsbury's nectar is pretty restricted in what they offer each time, nearly always in store deals on selected departments. I also find that they remove any other deals in those categories just before the nectar double up starts, so not the best really. To be honest I struggle to find something to buy in the double ups as the stores near me are not massive superstores and only carry a very limited range of non food items and a lot of it is cheaper elsewhere anyway . Also your only allowed to exchange a maximum 4,000 Nectar points per participating category .
Tesco double up and Days out is great, Sainsbury's ok if you shop there and have nectar points anyway or you take advantage of their Nectar points promotions just to gain extra point.
jamgin
27 Feb 16 3 #41
Yet again the same old complicated double up scheme by Sainsburys. Surprised they haven't additionally stipulated that vouchers must be redeemed when there is a full moon and you must be wearing your underpants inside out.

Also be warned that you will lose your redeemed nectar points if you don't spend the voucher by the cutoff date.
