Both venues are also on the Days out 2 for 1 offer, although you need a train ticket for that (but you can buy a cheap train ticket just to redeem the offer), and ideally be visiting in multiples of 2. But it's valid until 30 April so useful for those who can't visit before this offer expires.
We live not so far from there. We have been there a few times. It is lovely and well kept. I think it is good for a nice family day out or romantic people. We go with small children, they love the maze, we make our sandwiches but you can buy food there and there are some restaurants around the castle. There is a pier too so you can go to Richmond or Kingston by boat. So it is a really nice place :-)

Guys, to be honest this was my first time. So i dont know the deference. But gardens were well kept. Not much flowers to see. But most of the gardens were still green. There was this grape vine. Apparently it's the biggest vine in the world. Again no leafs on the vine.
Indoor stuff was really great. So much to see. People who work there are really friendly and if you talk to them they will tell you everything about the castle.
Don't forget the maze. Its in really good condition. I'm pretty sure it's the same in summer.
It's definitely worth going there. Plus not much people around. So you can have your own adventure in the castle. Lol
Don't forget, if you buy ticket online, tickets need to be collected from the ticket office there. Make sure you print your online confirmation.
Think thats it guys. It's totally worth going. If you have any question, let me know.

Sammboy is it worth going in the cold? Are the gardens nice or hardly any plants of flowers to see during the Winter? Not sure if to go now or wait till the summer and pay full price.

As Qasim7 asked, is it worth it in the cold? I've lived around the area for 9 years and never bothered going!
