Just a heads up you can get 1500 nectar points if you purchase the sim by clicking through the Nectar eShop link here

https://www.nectar.com/collecting-points/brands/3mobile

I thought I would try it when I purchased my SIM in February and I just checked my Nectar balance and have been awarded the 1500 points (worth £7.50).

"the information they provided might cause confusion" was an inappropriate phrase to use. There is no confusion caused by the information they provided regarding the 123 rates. It would have been more accurate to say "Because we stated incorrect facts on our website and literature regarding the 123 rates means that thousands of customers spent £10 our our Data Rewards PAYG that they wouldn't have otherwise have done and we apologise for having taken their money on false promises"

You can give it a try, but I think you might need a new sim card.

To try, switch on your mifi device and navigate to http://three.co.uk/freedata to register the sim. That page will tell you if your sim is elegible.

That happened to me, but I think the mechanism they use is erratic. I have such a sim in my tablet for very occasional use, and it mostly works, despite repeatedly getting the "naughty boy" texts. Dont know if it takes 24h to kick in when they detect use, and I found what it allows/denies is erratic.

It looks like this is only for dongles, mifi and tablets, but not for mobiles :disappointed:.

Yes it does for the 1gb plan, but not for the 3/12gb plans. Just when I'd ordered a dual sim phone, I may not need one if the 1gb plan allows calls & texts

Engadget link states you can make calls and text but no idea how they would bill you if you just paid £10 up front fir the data pack
While the SIM is primarily aimed at data-only devices like tablets and such, you can plug it into a phone and make calls from 3p from minute, or send texts from 2p per message.

I was hoping to use this on my tablet abroad but also pop it into my phone a couple of times to make calls.

5 Feb 16 2 #17
I don't see why this won't work on a phone as it also allows calls and texts using their 321 tariff. It also has better value add-ons for data.

So this is basically a 1-2-3 PAYG SIM with the benefit of getting 200MB free a month forever? (i.e. until they change the plan). I assume you lose the 150MB free when you top-up that you get with the standard PAYG SIM?
chocci to cj123825
5 Feb 16 #27
exactly, in which case I assume you also have to pay another £10 to purchase the PAYG 'feel at home' add-on to use the data or make calls etc abroad. Think I will just stick with my current payg 321 sim and purchase the addon for use abroad.

Update. Feel At Home Add-Ons ARE available on this sim just like on the standard PAYG sim. So you can convert credit into an add-on to get 1p/minute calls 2p texts as well as the 1p/MB additional data in Feel At Home countries.
gx3k
7 Feb 16 1 #72
Just checked my account again and it seems like the 1GB won't get used until you use up the 200MB allowance every month.

So what's the advantage of getting the regular PAYG SIM if this one gets free data every month, gets better value data add-ons, and uses the same call/text tariffs?

UPDATE: Maybe its because you can get a regular PAYG SIM free. The £10 for the Data reward SIM is basically for the 1GB data you will get that does not expire.

I haven't found where it says you have to buy an add-on to use Feel at home.

Have I got this right: I pay £10 for a SIM with 1 GB valid 30 days, register online, and then get 200 MB a month to use. I can use the 1 GB and 200 MB from any country covered by Feel-at-home.
Presumably, I also have to buy a £2 top up so I can make the occasional call/text and keep the account alive.
Is that right, or did I miss something?

I think I'm going to get the three sim to go with my fp one.... Once the credit runs out on my 123 sim.
Marco64
28 Mar 16 #119
What I'm wondering is if the Three app on my Android phone (or something somewhere along the Three network) would detect that I'm operating 2 of their Data Reward sim cards sequentially on the same phone to get 400MB free. However it sounds a great idea to run a Data Rewards sim sequentially with a freedompop as that would eliminate the risk of Three blocking one or both of their sims. My phone is dual SIM so have a cheapo voice only SIM in the second SIM slot. I make very few calls as I don't have many friends.
jco83
28 Mar 16 #120

After many emails back and forth, they've informed me that apparently they messed up and the 321 plan does not apply to PAYG but only to contract broadband. They've forwarded this to the Business Review Team to correct the details and gave me some free credit on the SIM as an apology.

I'm not sure if they're just telling me this to close my complaint of course, but this is where things stand for me. Be careful if you order a new Data Reward SIM that you check the plan details in mythree!

Essentially yes. I don't have this in writing, as the guy rang me up after the complaint was escalated, but his response was that the information they had provided "might cause confusion" and that he was forwarding it to that team who would change their literature.
Marco64
2 Apr 16 3 #125
"the information they provided might cause confusion" was an inappropriate phrase to use. There is no confusion caused by the information they provided regarding the 123 rates. It would have been more accurate to say "Because we stated incorrect facts on our website and literature regarding the 123 rates means that thousands of customers spent £10 our our Data Rewards PAYG that they wouldn't have otherwise have done and we apologise for having taken their money on false promises"

Here is my experience with two Freedompop SIM cards I've just received in the post which operate on the Three network. These SIMs give you 200 mins and 200 texts and 200 MB free every month on their Basic Plan (free of charge). However, on this free plan, if you go above 200 MB, each extra MB is 1.5p rather than 1p on Three's advertised Data Rewards PAYG plan.

So I put Freedompop SIM card #1 into my mobile and downloaded the Freedompop App from Google Play. The App automatically displayed the phone number corresponding to SIM card #1 and the number of free mins, texts and MB left. It made and received calls which were of good sound quality, despite being VoIP calls via 3G (I have no 4G coverage from the Three network in my area and Freedompop is 4G enabled). It sent and received texts no problem and the internet worked although slowly in my location, which is normal regardless of carrier, see speed tests below.

I then swapped Freedompop SIM card #1 with Freedompop SIM card #2. The App still displayed SIM card #1 phone number. Data works. I could dial out and send a text and the receiving phone would show that they were coming from SIM card #2's number. However, I could not receive calls or texts. I would probably have had to uninstall and reinstall the App each time I swapped the SIM to double up my allowances but I did not try this.

Speed tests in my area all done at the same time (apart from Giff Gaff which was about 2 weeks earlier)

4G connection on Giff Gaff (PAYG) using O2 network: Download 1.5 Mb/s, Upload 1.5 Mb/s
3G connection on EE (contract) using EE network: Download 2.4 Mb/s, Upload 0.3 Mb/s
3G connection on Freedompop (PAYG) using Three's network: Download 2.5 Mb/s, Upload 1.3 Mb/s

I was somewhat astonished at the low speed on Giff Gaff's 4G service and after googling read that others were reporting the same experience and there is a theory saying that the O2 network they use prioritise their traffic and put their own customers first and any spare capacity is then allocated to Giff Gaff hence the slow speeds.

So I had an online chat with three yesterday asking for the 321 plan on my current sim to be switched to the data reward sim. After checking with a manager the person informed me that this wasn't possible due to my sim being a 'phone' type sim as opposed to a 'broadband' type sim. I doubt there are any physical differences between these types however they probably virtually register in a different way on the network.

Apparently I would be unable to transfer either my current three number or a number from a different network onto a 'broadband' sim however shouldn't have a problem using a bb sim in a phone.

I asked wherever there was any way he could make it right and add a free recurring data allowance onto my account as it doesn't seem fair that 321 customers don't get the same benefit for what is essentially the same plan. Couldn't be done but to his credit he added a free £5 top up to my account.

I ended up telling him that I'd ordered one of these free 'broadband' sims anyway and that I'd use it in my dual sim phone after hacking it and glueing it to my micro SD which he wished me good luck with.

I don't know what's going on, but I've just seen screenshots that confirm that the 123 prices do apply to this sim.

Weird :/

Page 7 of price guide for new mobile data plans also clearly implies the 123 prices apply to this SIM. I wonder if it just a problem with the my3 website not being able to display the correct rates, has anyone actually used the SIM to determine the rates?

Just a heads up you can get 1500 nectar points if you purchase the sim by clicking through the Nectar eShop link here

https://www.nectar.com/collecting-points/brands/3mobile

I thought I would try it when I purchased my SIM in February and I just checked my Nectar balance and have been awarded the 1500 points (worth £7.50).

Has anyone had success using this SIM card in Android tablets?
I am thinking of using it in my new Teclast P80 which has 3G.

Ok, I have an update on this now. After contacting customer services again, it turns out the previous guy got it completely wrong and 123 rates do apply. The price plan details in mythree show up wrong for me as "Broadband Lite" with 10.2p for text, but after sending one, I can confirm that it actually only costs 2p.

I can confirm the free 200MB works in Spain, one of the Feel at Home locations and very useful it was too, more than enough for 4 days Google Maps/Navigator, Citymapper, Email and WhatsApp plus occasional browsing. I did download the google maps i needed before going.

Thanks for this post. Put the SIM into my tablet today, no internet connection. Went to three.co.uk and registered and account, still no data connection. Called 3 and they said it would take 24 hours. Came back here to find this post.

Hi, is it possible to use this plan in an iPhone?

Hi  Yes, as long as it's network unlocked (or if it's locked to Three it should work) I see no reason not
