Remember that you will need to wait for 3 to 5 weeks to get the phone and you need to pay for custom tax as well. The custom tax is 20% of the value plus £10 admin fee for DHL. I was in that situation before and will never trade with Gearbest anymore. The worst customer service I've ever seen.

Bought three of these. None of them picked up by customs. They have a, ahem 'unusual' approach to customer service, but to say you'll def have to pay customs is not true.

Yeah thats the thing. You get people who say theyve had no problems with GB, but its like playing russian roulette. They dont have any customer service at all, but pay excellent commission rates so hotukdeals owners love them.

Crap customer service yes. Avoid pre sales and you will be ok. If it goes wrong forget about it. Ignore comment on duty as had over 10 phones from them from china and never been stung for duty once.

Have one of those so Ill share my exoerience with it. IF you drop your phone from every now.and then - this is not the phone for you ( even with tempered glass screen protector.). My old Lumia 920 was dropped dozens of times and never cracked. You can't install apps on SD card without rooting the phone first. Mine came without any crapware installed apart from a couple of xiaomis apps. It's easy to put international ROM on it. Phone is responsive and fast. Camera not the best, although the focus is really super fast. Never managed to empty the battery with about 2 hours of browsing, gaming, streaming a day.

Yes, I would have gone for this or the 32gb version if it wasn't for the lack of 800MHz.
Looking at the Doogee Y200 instead now.

These are fantastic phones. Paid 135/from Amazon UK seller 2 months ago for my daughter. I ran it for a week to test and in many ways preferred it to my Nexus 6p. Can't faulty it in any way, even MIUI is nice...

I think you hit the nail on the head in regard to my main reason for me holding back on buying another Chinese phone.
Prices and spec are very tempting, but having a phone that survives me multi dropping it is of ultimate importance.

got the 32gb version from gearbest EU warehouse a couple of weeks ago, took about a week to arrive.
I'd say its a great phone but the shipped software is a bit of a mare, you'll want to flash it. I've tried but it didnt work and knowing that I cant totally recommend it. If you're ok with flashing roms, go for it, if not steer clear or buy elsewhere.

Putting international ROM on it was really easy for me. Xiaomi made it really easy by incorporating system updater software.

I know some of the Chinese phones come with gorilla glass. This one has no protection whatsoever.

I've bought a xiaomi mi 4c for my wife and a windows 10 tablet for my self so far from gear best so far. All of them arrived, no customs but that's just the luck of the draw. I'd risk it again. Don't think of them like a UK retailer because they are not and they will not respond like one. Treat it like you bought something cheap on a holiday in China.

Yes, there is updater software but the phone I received had that compromised. It's s known issue with the build I have. Going to have to write to Xiamoi for advice.

So that's why some uk merchants deals get classed as spam and the torrent of GB deals don't?

Xiaomi are fantastic, I have quite a few of there products (bluetooth speaker, fitness band, headphones, power bank) including an Mi3 which has been dropped 50+ times with no screen protector and it hasn't cracked once (no idea how). I have heard some of the cheaper models aren't quite as sturdy but if you're going to complain at this price you're insane.

Mine had the blocked updater issue as well to prevent using regular system updater. However I was able to update to global rom using fastboot method. See here http://en.miui.com/a-234.html

Yeah, but even the ones with gorilla glass would bother me. I mean I drop my phone so much (juggling paperwork and car keys is usually where my phone makes pavement contact) the case protects the screen while the impact shock go about creating havoc with the phones internals. My moto g has just carried on regardless for two years, while cheapish chinese phones in the past have done all sorts of wierd things due to their poor build quality.

Thank you I'll have a read. I'm a bit nervous about this so I'm hoping it's not too complex. Was yours the 32gb 4g version?
Clangers99
28 Feb 161#32
Yes, mine was the 32gb version. Just follow the instructions for the Fastboot method (after downloading the fastboot global rom for the Redmi Note 2) and you should be OK.

Thank you! Which ROM did you choose? There's no global stable version of the Note 2, 4g dual sim?

TERRIBLE COMPANY!!! AVOID IS A MUST!!!
Got a faulty handset and it took over 3 months to sort out the refund!!! Just downright terrible customer service!!! Initial ticket response was so bad it took over 2 weeks of several times of trying to contact them before they would even acknowledge me!!! Then dozens more of message exchanges I finally got to send the faulty device back, and after several weeks of even more message exchanges I was finally able to receive a refund, so bad JUST SO BAD of the experience!!!
I'll be sticking to eBay for my international buys because they actually take very good care of their customers!..
My 2pence worth!.. ^_^

http://en.miui.com/a-234.html Scroll down to 'Redmi Note 2 Latest Global Stable Version Fastboot File Download' This is the one I used and it worked fine. Now get automatic updates and able to use system updater.
Update ... Sorry, just checked your query, didn't realise that the Redmi Note 4G is different from the Redmi Note 2. I have a Redmi Note 2, so unfortunately I can't help if you have the Redmi Note 4G.

No Gorilla Glass, but Dragontail, which is a little better than Gorilla Glass 2:
I've had it in a TPU bumper case with no screen protector for months, not dropped it, but not many phones survive a drop these days (look how many Samsungs/iPhones you see with smashed screens). The glass is still fine, I wouldn't want to drop it though.
I'd only recommend this phone if you're confident flashing phones, otherwise go for something like the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 which has comparable specs and a UK high street warranty. The lack of Cyanogenmod on the SU6 was a dealbreaker for me...

Can anyone please tell me how to get around the increase in price when proceeding to check out on Gear Best website?
As an example if price dispayed is 119 GBP, when you are redirected to payment options (well, only option is Paypal) price is switched back to USD and the conversion to GBP is higher than previously stated.
This usually adds more GBP to original GBP price.
Going back to the expample price of 119 GBP this would be now 129 GBP, that's 10 quid more!
Any help would be appreciated.
