Had Navigon on me iPhone and its better then tom tom - maps are stored on device so was well over a gig, but works offline/no data needed via gps

I'm assuming that Underground uses the same system that the old Amazon appstore uses - if you uninstalled the Amazon app, the apps from the store stopped working.
I use the Underground app on my tablet, but don't want to remove it to test.
