Yes it does, similarly with the Apple TV, you can airplay your audio when the TV is off.

Will be much worse quality unless you pay a lot for a high end DAC and from what I know it won't output sound without a valid hdmi/hdcp connection.

I really hope this is true but, without knowing the exact conversation, it's most likely just some customer service operator who barely knows what a Chromecast is and probably doesn't know the difference between them. Hey, the Chromecast outputs audio to your TV and you can use audio apps, it's actually easy to get confused if this isn't your bag.

Even though everything on the offer page indicates that it is a normal Chromecast I would love for someone to confirm that you at least get a choice or something. I already have a Chromecast v2 (£20 Google Play credit, Tesco Clubcard points and TCB made it practically free :-) ) and have no need of another, but I really want a Chromecast audio, so if someone can confirm this I would be as happy as a pig in a big bath of faeces.

Seems unlikely when the picture on the link is of a Chromecast and if you click through the link where you redeem it, it takes you to the page for the Chromecast. Of course, it would be good if it was the Audio version, but from the links, it doesn't seem to be the case. Still a good deal either way, of course.

I've just clicked on it again in my offers (Now TV page) and it states this on the page :

"Two month NOW TV Movies Pass: Offer available for new NOW TV Movie Pass customers only, who have purchased and set up a Chromecast on or before 28 February 2016. 18+. UK only."

Whereas on the previous offer it stated the 31st January. It seems to have generated a new code as well for me. Redeemable also.

I asked them on Twitter DM this time and they said the code can be used for the TV or Audio chromecast and then I questioned how come it goes direct to the TV eddition they said it's the landing page but code can be used for both - as same value.

They confirmed this cannot be used with the NUS extra deal, after £9.99 even if a student with this chromecast after the 3 months is up.

To get student discount you would have to cancel the subscription, then take out a new premium sub with the discount on. That's what I'll be doing.
