I've just contacted the Daily Mail again as I still haven't received my chocolates (and e-voucher) as promised.
They are making up a "case load" of names of those who still haven't received their chocolates so that another batch can be sent out
If you still haven't received yours, then phone 0808 272 0808 (Freephone) so that you can be added to the list.
I've been reassured that we'll still receive our chocolates.
Let's hope that they arrive in time for Christmas! :smirk:

Hi there. Well done on getting justice. Could you give me the email address or number to contact as I too couldn't get any chocolate's in my local WHSmith. I'm really surprised (pleasantly) that you are able to get compensation for this. I had given that before I'd started because I thought I wouldn't get anywhere. Well done again

Hello mate,
Just wondering if the picture you posted is what the voucher looks like? I've emailed them about the chocolates as my vouchers didn't work so i threw it away cant remember what it looks like lol
jimmybo
18 Feb 16#52
The problem was that the W H Smith checkout staff were asking every customer who purchased The Mail on Sunday in their shop if they would like a free box of chocolates - without even taking
out the voucher
Not only did this cause stocks to run out quickly, but customers could return later with the extracted voucher and receive a second box
My local W H Smith actually sold out of copies of The Mail on Sunday by 10am
Customers were purchasing three or four copies which meant that even the substitute supplies of chocs ran out
Totally the fault of W H Smith for their mishandling of the offer
DealJourno
17 Feb 161#51
It was their fault. They shouldn't have pushed a promo without ensuring the supplier could meet the potential demand.
I bet Dale Maily got his chocolates.

It wasn't the Daily Mail - or their promotion - that was the problem - and they're so far trying honour the offer

Update:
All credit to The Daily Mail for sorting out a problem - created by W H Smith - with their promotion
Extract from e-mail: "Thank you for your call today regarding our free box of chocolates promotion in The Mail on Sunday.
We strive to be inclusive and make it easy for all readers to enjoy our promotions. We agreed with our partner, W H Smiths, to provide an alternative should the promotional stocks run out. Following your complaint, we have investigated with W H Smiths and can confirm the stores were instructed to provide alternatives. I’m sorry that this did not happen in your experience.
Just wanted to provide you with an update from this morning. Apologies for the confusion.
We still want you to be able to enjoy your chocolates and have decided to post you a box of chocolates to make up for the inconvenience instead of the £5 eVoucher as previously mentioned.
As always, your comments surrounding the promotion are valued and this will be fed back to our Promotions team to try and ensure the smooth running of future activities.
I hope this brings a satisfactory resolution to your complaint."
Well done The Daily Mail! - But I would think twice about using W H Smith for any more of your promotions

The Daily Mail will have to honour these vouchers
They're just realising the incompetence of the W H Smith employee's ability to cope with the demand for this popular offer.
Everyone with The Mail on Sunday voucher should receive their chocolates!

Eventually managed to get through to someone at Mail on Sunday. Jody said that WH Smiths should have offered an alternative for the same price and that you need to take it up with the manager of the local WH Smith store. When I said I had done that she said that he should've given an alternative and they shouldn't have said there were none available. She said that they hadn't been given any further information about how to deal with these complaints but that they were logging everyone's details….in other words, politely, goodbye. I'm emailing the press office.

ran out in my W H Smiths too, got the manager down and I said there is nothing in the script which says subject to availability. He gave me a damaged box of Lindt, not that I cared by that point! Will just have to scoff them as they won't make a good raffle prize :smirk:

jimmybo to davidian84
14 Feb 16#37
That was the point about this offer
There's nothing in the offer t & c indicating "While stocks last" or "Subject to availability so one would assume that all vouchers would be honoured - which I'm confident will happen - eventually
I think that the reason the stocks ran out was because W H Smith staff weren't aware of the "voucher" requirement
They appear to have given anyone who purchased The Mail on Sunday in their store a box of chocs.
The coupon could then be cut out and exchanged for a second box
Good luck to anyone who got two boxes - but those that didn't get even one box should be compensated

Thanks for the advice. I've called the number and been on hold to them for 25 minutes now and am about to give up. It's a recorded message with the same bar of music going over and over and the tape seems to be getting mangled as it's playing out of tune and starting to break up! What a shambles….

Reading high street WH smiths all gone at noon. The Lindt, the Thorntons AND "the substitute"! I walked 500 yards to the wh smiths at reading station where they had loads of them but refused to honour the deal as per the restrictions on the voucher. How can they con people into buying their rag under the promise of a free gift then not supply the store with enough boxes? I asked the staff how many boxes they had and no one could answer except "in the range of 30"!

I presented my voucher at W H Smith, in Street, Somerset, at 12-30 today Sunday 14th. They ran out of chocolates on offer, and also ran out of the alternative, a box of Guilian shells. I was very disappointed to come away empty handed.

My local WH Smith opens at 9am.
ALL of their allocation of Lindt and Thorntons chocolates were gone by 9.30
They were giving anyone who purchased a Mail on Sunday the chocolates - without them asking and without taking out the voucher
No wonder their supplies went quickly (You could return with the voucher for another box)
They are now giving one 250g box of Guylian Artisanal Belgian Chocolates as a substitute that still have a price label on them of £2.99 each or 2 for £5
The store manager and W H Smith consider this to be "of similar value"

It also looks like there's a choice from the Lindt Lindor 200g range - including the most popular Assorted Cornet selection
Maximum of 6 chocolates no doubt! Surely they'll be the smallest boxes with the highest inflated WH Smith prices.
I'm guessing it's the 50g box of Lindor, which are currently £1 in Asda or 2 for £2 in Tesco. So unless I'm wrong, it's a cold deal for me. (plus it involves buying the Daily Mail....eurgh)
